Alanis Morissette 'would not be alive' without therapy
The Ironic hitmaker admitted she still "struggles" with suicidal thoughts and believes much of her depressive nature comes from being "highly sensitive".
After making her admission about being saved by therapy, she was asked if she was suicidal and told The Guardian newspaper: 'All the time. I still struggle with it. I have an anxious, depressive tendency. Those who are sensitive are much more susceptible to their environmental information.
"If you put a highly sensitive person in an environment where they're brow-beaten or reduced, they'll basically want to kill themselves. It's the worst. If you put a highly sensitive person in an environment where they're supported, championed and listened to, they thrive.'
The 51-year-old star - who has Ever, 14, Onyx, nine, and five-year-old Winter with husband Souleye - believes couples therapy is hugely important in her marriage.
She said: 'I'm a huge couples therapist person. I have been for ever.'
But Alanis insists any therapist she and Souleye work with must be "trauma-informed" and "addiction-informed".
She said: 'I can't be supported by someone who doesn't look through those lenses.'
The Thank U singer has struggled with addictions to work, love, sex and shopping, to which she takes a "Whac-a-Mole" approach of tackling whenever one issue or another pops up.
She said: 'I call addiction 'relief-seeking measures that kill you eventually'...
'There are some people who would get very mad at me for implying at all that [sobriety] is nuanced. Because for those of us who were drinking at seven in the morning, well there's nothing nuanced about that. So, I guess it depends. For me, it's whichever addiction is bringing you to death very fast. Which one is it? Which one's ruining your relationships? And then there's the Whac-a-Mole approach, which is, 'OK, I've stopped not eating. And now I'm working my ass off. Oh, yeah, and I took a few too many pills.' The Whac-a-Mole, that's what we have to keep an eye on.'
Alanis finds being a workaholic particularly tough because it is a quality often celebrated.
She said: 'Because the number one priority is being clicked into some seed of productivity. There's no worth in just being. And it's a higher power thing, so work addiction is also called the praise addiction.
'If I said, 'Oh, I did heroin till four in the morning and totally blacked out,' people would be like, 'Oh s***. B**** needs some help.' But if I said, 'I've been working my f****** a** off for this deadline and I finished at 4.15am,' people would be patting my back and be, like, 'Good work, girl.' It's equally corrosive. Because any addiction, if we keep going with it, we're dead. It is great for 20 minutes, then you're dead.'

Jeremy Renner had to be "handcuffed to the bed" to stop him trying to leave hospital after his snowplough accident. When he did make it home from hospital, the 54-year-old actor suffered from hallucinations because of the strong painkillers he was taking, with him having "a conversation with a curtain" on one occasion and even having an entire imaginary outing with fellow actor Jamie Foxx. Jeremy said: "That was at home, and ... yeah. You know, as one might do, that's when you know you're not feeling any pain. "I was talking to objects and Jamie Foxx. "You guys know Jamie Foxx. He was there in my room. Jamie Foxx was there; he was in my room, then we got up and we went snowmobiling. All that happened in my mind. It didn't happen. "It's good drugs - good drugs." The Hurt Locker actor previously credited sheer willpower for helping him pull through after his accident. He told The Guardian newspaper: "I was bullying my body into thinking it wasn't that bad and my mind was overcoming the greatest odds it's ever come up against. My mind was saying, 'Nah!', it's part stubbornness. 'I don't want to lose this battle, this game', but the deeper part, the zoomed-out part, is I had so much to live for. I had a bunch of people waiting for me to go skiing! "I didn't want to let them down. That became such a big thing." Jeremy was unable to walk for two months after the accident but revealed that he only has a small number of scars as a result of the surgery he had. He said: " I have a bunch of little scars, but only from the surgery to save my body. The whole leg is titanium from the knee down to the ankle." The Tag actor explained that his mouth continues to be in considerable pain. He said: "My mouth is complete chaos. "It looks fine, but when I bite down it feels as if I'm going to break all my teeth."

Tame Impala frontman cryptically teases new music

The 39-year-old musician has cryptically suggested that new material from his musical project could be on the way as fans eagerly await a follow-up to the 2020 album The Slow Rush. Jeremy Renner addresses his ex-wife's allegation that he threatened to kill her
Jeremy Renner has finally addressed damning claims made by his ex-wife. In a new interview with The Guardian, Renner, 54, spoke about how his ex Sonni Pacheco claimed during their 2019 divorce proceedings that he allegedly threatened to kill her and himself. 'Whatever stress I've had in life I've tried to find a way of laughing through it,' the Hawkeye star said. 'And that's where sometimes cynicism comes out — you think, 'I'm just going to have a laugh at this stuff.'' When asked to elaborate on the 'stuff' he was referring to, Renner responded: 'Being accused of things you've not done, right? That doesn't feel good to anybody. It certainly doesn't feel good when you're a celebrity and it's known to everybody.' Renner then confirmed that he was speaking about Pacheco's allegations and insisted her claims weren't true. 'No, and they happen all the time,' he stated. 'It's all the salaciousness that happens out there. It's clickbait, and it hurts my feelings and it dehumanises people.' The Oscar nominee also explained that he ignored the public's reaction when the allegations first emerged. 'It doesn't matter to me what people say,' the Avengers star shared. 'They're saying it for their own reasons and not for the right reasons or the truth. And I'm used to that, because I'm a public figure. I don't read people's reviews, I don't read people's comments. I don't care. That's not part of my life.' Renner and Pacheco, 37, were married for 10 months before the model filed for divorce in December 2014. During their subsequent custody battle over daughter Ava, now 12, Pacheco claimed Renner threatened to kill her and once stuck a gun in his mouth and shot into the ceiling while Ava was in her room, according to TMZ. The model also reportedly accused Renner of drug use and leaving cocaine on a bathroom counter where Ava could reach. Renner denied all of Pacheco's allegations at the time. Pacheco fought for sole custody of Ava, but she and Renner currently have joint custody. When asked by The Guardian if he feared losing custody of his daughter, Renner said: 'That's just lawyers talking. That's lawyers arguing. The custody was easy.' 'Her mum and I get along very well, and we're in each other's lives,' he further revealed. 'It's lovely.' Renner also stated that his relationship with his ex-wife is 'no one's business.' 'It's great,' he said. 'She's got a new baby and she sends me beautiful pictures.' Pacheco welcomed her daughter Wylder with hockey player Nate Thompson in March 2023. Renner, for his part, told The Guardian that he isn't dating someone 'at the moment.'
