MJCCD 1: Faith Unshaken
By Aloysius Irenaeus DuksonFaith Unshaken – Serving and Inspiring was the theme of the first Malacca Johore Catholic Campus Day (MJCCD 1). Originally planned five years ago, the programme faced delays due to the global pandemic. However, in 2025, through the joint efforts of the Malacca Johore Diocesan Young People Network (MJDYPN) and Campus In Action (C.I.A), MJCCD 1 was finally brought to life. The event took place over two days and one night at Majodi Centre, Plentong, gathering 77 Catholic students from various campuses across Melaka and Johor (UTM, UiTM, MMU, UTeM, UTHM, and various Polytechnics).
Strengthening Student Relationships with Jesus The participants shared that the programme enlightened them through God's calling and inspired them to become beacons of hope for others as they serve on their campuses within their respective communities. They expressed that faith must remain firm and unwavering, especially in times of service, always grounded in trust in God's plan.
Faith – The Foundation of our Hope Fr Paul Sia reflected on Hebrews 11:1: 'Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.' Drawing on the examples of Noah and Abraham, it highlighted their deep trust in God — a trust that students today should emulate, particularly as they face challenges in university life. With sincere effort and prayer, these challenges can lead to growth and fruitful outcomes.
Hope and an Unshaken Faith MJCCD 1 stands as a meaningful milestone for both the C.I.A and Christian Fellowship/ Catholic Student Society communities, encouraging them to remain steadfast in their campus ministry work. Through humility and joy, students are reminded to continue serving faithfully wherever they are.
Ultimately, with Faith Unshaken as the central theme, may we continue to grow in faith, remain firm in our service, be guided by the Holy Spirit, and nurture communities rooted in God's enduring love.

Thousands join Sibu Sacred Heart Cathedral's 40th anniversary mass

Roman Catholic Bishop of Sibu, the Rt Rev Joseph Hii, thanked the congregation for attending the mass, which showed their love for the church. In his homily, Hii said the consecration of the cathedral served as a reminder or a sign that the church is not the only place where people could find God, but everywhere and in everyone. 'The whole world that is created by God is His house. Each and every one of us; all the creatures that are made by God are holy and everyone and every place is a place to encounter God. 'God is inviting all of us to participate by our very actions so that we consciously consecrate ourselves to God, to belong to God just like a church or a temple consecrated to God,' he said. Among those in attendance were priests from different parishes in the Diocese of Sibu. The mass was held in English, Iban, and Chinese. The cathedral was first built in 1985 and it underwent a renovation in 2013 to accommodate the growing Catholic population here. In 2015, a high mass was held to rededicate the renovated cathedral in conjunction with its 30th Consecration Anniversary. Joseph Hii lead Roman Catholic Diocese of Sibu Sacred Heart Cathedral

Church: New contractor takes over
Published on: Tuesday, July 29, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 29, 2025 By: Lorena Binisol Text Size: The front of the Gothic-style six-storey church. Credit: PUTATAN: With RM8 million spent since construction started in 2013, the Catholic faithful are still hoping that the St Catherine Laboure Church site at Kg Imbaan, Putatan, will be completed in due course. It is understood that an injection of at least another RM6 million would be necessary, thus making it one of the most expensive churches to be built in Malaysia and possibly in Sabah. One thing for sure – it would be the first six-storey church in the nation. A special blessing and handover ceremony to new contractor (Macromax Enterprise) was led and witnessed by Archbishop Datuk John Wong of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. The Gothic-style six-storey church was built on donated ancestral land. Subscribe or LOG IN to access this article. Pope encourages Pax Christi to continue to promote nonviolence
Pope encourages Pax Christi to continue to promote nonviolence In a message to participants in Pax Christi USA's annual National Assembly, Pope Leo says 'efforts to promote nonviolence are all the more necessary' in a world facing the challenges including war, division, and forced migration. Jul 27, 2025 Pope Leo (file photo) By Christopher Wells 'In the midst of the many challenges facing our world at this time, including widespread armed conflict, division among peoples, and the challenges of forced migration, efforts to promote nonviolence are all the more necessary,' says Pope Leo XIV in a message to the National Assembly of Pax Christi USA. The US branch of the international Catholic peace movement is meeting in Detroit, Michigan, this weekend (25-27 July) for a conference focused on 'Reclaiming the power of nonviolence in a broken world'. In his message, which was read to participants during opening ceremonies on Friday night, Pope Leo invited participants to recall that 'after the violence of the Crucifixion, the Risen Christ's first words to the Apostles offered peace,' a peace that is 'unarmed and disarming, humble and persevering'. Jesus, he continued, 'continues to send His followers into the world to become creators of peace in their daily lives'. Therefore 'it is all the more important for a Church capable of reconciliation to be present and visible' in parishes, neighbourhoods, and especially on the peripheries of society. Pope Leo expressed his hope that the National Conference would inspire members of Pax Christi USA to work to make their local communities ''houses of peace' where one learns how to defuse hostility through dialogue, where justice is practiced and forgiveness is cherished'. By doing so, he said, 'you will enable many more people to embrace Saint Paul's invitation to live at peace with their brothers and sisters'. The Holy Father concluded his Message by entrusting the Assembly to the intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church and imparting his Apostolic Blessing to participants.--Vatican News
