Allahabad HC rejects plea seeking Radha Rani's inclusion as party in Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah case
NEW DELHI: The Allahabad High Court has rejected an application seeking to make goddess Radha a party to one of the 18 suits related to the Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah title dispute.
Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra dismissed the application on May 23, stating that Puranic illustrations cannot be considered as direct evidence in legal proceedings.
The application was filed through Advocate Reena N Singh, claiming that Shriji Radha Rani is the legal wife and feminine form of the plaintiff, Sri Bhagwan Krishna Lala Virajman. The petitioner argued that both deities jointly hold the disputed land of 13.37 acres.
"Puranic illustrations are considered hearsay evidence," the court stated while rejecting the application.
"The claim of the applicant as a joint holder of property in dispute together with plaintiff is based on some reference in various Purans and Sanhitas wherein Shriji Radha Rani is considered as the soul of lord Krishna," the court observed.
The court noted that Pauranic illustrations and their depictions "is usually based on narrative and not on direct observation or testimony."

The applicant sought to be included as a necessary party to the suit under order one rule 10 of civil procedure code, claiming joint ownership based on references in Purans and Sanhitas.
The court found that the applicant failed to provide any concrete evidence or binding authority to support the claim in the disputed matter, which is claimed as Lord Krishna's birthplace where the Shahi Idgah Masjid currently stands.
"This court finds force in the objection raised by some of the parties to the suit in regard to impleadment application filed on behalf of Shriji Radha Rani. There is no averment in the impleadment application that there was a temple of Radha Rani in the property in dispute," the court concluded.
The court left room for future consideration if the applicant presents concrete evidence supporting the claim of joint ownership.
The plaintiffs in the main case claim that Sri Krishna's birthplace temple in Mathura has been under encroachment since 1669-70 by the Shahi Idgah Masjid management. They seek removal of the alleged illegal encroachment.
The dispute centers around the Shahi Idgah mosque in Mathura, allegedly built during Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's era after demolishing a temple at Lord Krishna's birthplace.

New Delhi: Turning the divine into the mundane and yet the right thing to do? NGO Sampoorna certainly thinks so. So, the heavily embroidered borders of a lehenga worn by an idol in a temple becomes a tote bag. The shimmering zari of a goddess' sari transforms into a bangle box. The bright silk dupatta of the idol turns into a lehenga choli for kids. Not, it's not sacrilegious, just better than dumping the discarded material into the Yamuna or left to decay under a peepal tree. The National Green Tribunal, in its order in Jan 2015, prohibited throwing any kind of temple waste and pooja material or any other material like foodgrain, oil, etc., into the Yamuna except at a designated site. Despite this ban, many pooja discards end up in the river, adding to pollution. Sampoorna seems to have found divine inspiration on dealing with this problem. Sobha Vijender, who founded Sampoorna in 1993, said the NGO's action represented a sustainable model emphasising the circular economy. We have launched a campaign to spread awareness across the country on recycling old clothes," said Vijender. The NGO used to collect old clothes from residential societies to fabricate bags. "Once, we received two cartons of old clothes which had earlier adorned idols. After research, we made bags from those sacred cloth. We decided to give these sacred pieces of fabric a new purpose," Vijender smiled. Kiran Dwivedi, a Sampoorna worker, said she came to the NGO over a decade ago to learn sewing. "I am happy that I work here now and am involved in the protection of the environment," she said. New Delhi: As Delhi University opened its doors to first-year students on Friday, college entrances across North Campus were teeming not just with excited students but also with their outstation families, including parents, siblings and even toddlers. Many of them had travelled from across the country to ensure that the students had a hassle-free entry to college life. Outside colleges like Miranda House and St Stephen's, the sidewalks, bus stops and gates turned into makeshift waiting lounges.
