Oman's HyDuqm expects FID in 2027

Zawya02-06-2025
Hydrogen Duqm (HyDuqm), one of nine large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia projects currently in early development in Oman, anticipates a Final Investment Decision (FID) in 2027, with production slated to commence in 2030.
HyDuqm is a joint venture comprising POSCO Holdings, Samsung Engineering , Korea East-West Power Company, Korea Southern Power Company , MESCAT Middle East DMCC (a subsidiary of ENGIE from France), and FutureTech Energy Ventures (FTEV) - the clean energy arm of Thai energy conglomerate PTTEP.
In 2023, the JV partners won a concession from Hydrom, the master-planner of Oman's green hydrogen economy, to develop a GH2 project in Block Z1-02 in Al Wusta Governorate. The project targets an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia, focusing on clean energy production from green hydrogen.
According to PTTEP subsidiary FTEV, the partners of HyDuqm are currently 'in the process of assessing wind and solar energy potential (Renewable Resource Assessment) and conducting a feasibility study to evaluate the investment value and profitability of the project prior to starting engineering design'.
FTEV's role as a JV partner in HyDuqm is the latest addition to parent organisation PTTEP's expanding presence in Oman's energy industry.
'This investment supports the growth of new businesses aligning with the Company's business plan and provides an opportunity to apply knowledge and experience in green hydrogen production in Thailand, in line with future energy policies,' PTTEP noted in its recently issued 2024 Annual Report.
'PTTEP completed the installation of wind and solar potential measurement stations and has begun collecting data to support the project operations. The ongoing feasibility study phase includes geographical, geotechnical, and hydrological assessments, as well as a Preliminary Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (Pre-ESIA),' it said.
The feasibility study, according to the Thai state-owned energy giant, will also help determine the amount of required capital expenditure and economic return before proceeding to the engineering design phase in 2025.

Masdar-led consortium makes fresh offer to India's ReNew Energy

India's ReNew Energy Global has received a final non-binding offer from a consortium led by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company Masdar, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), Platinum Hawk, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Sumant Sinha, the Founder, Chairman and CEO of ReNew, to take the company private. The latest offer by the consortium is looking to acquire the entire share capital of the Nasdaq-listed ReNew for $8.00 per share, up 13.2% from a $7.07 per share offer made on December 10. The latest offer could see the deal valued at $3.19 billion. At the time of the initial offer, Reuters valued the deal at $2.82 billion. 'The final non-binding offer represents a 26.2% premium versus the undisturbed share price of $6.34 on December 10, 2024, being the closing share price prior to the initial non-binding proposal becoming public and a 38.9% premium to the 30-day volume-weighted average price of US$5.76 per share (as of December 10, 2024),' ReNew said in a SEC filing. ReNew operates 10.3 gigawatts (GW) of solar, wind, hydro and hybrid projects across India. As the country's second largest clean energy generator after Adani Green, ReNew saw its stock surge to a 52-week high of $7.67 on July 3, aligning with the improved offer, and implying investor optimism. According to LSEG data, CPP Investments and ADIA are the top two investors in ReNew, with Goldman Sachs listed as an early investor before selling its entire stake prior to the company going public in 2021. The company's board of directors have formed a special committee to consider the proposals. Rothschild & Co has been appointed as independent financial advisor on the offer, with Linklaters LLP as independent legal counsel. (Reporting by Bindu Rai, editing by Seban Scaria)

Oman: SalamAir releases 2nd quarter on-time performance data

Muscat: SalamAir, Oman's low-cost carrier, has announced its On-Time Performance (OTP) results for the second quarter of 2025, reaffirming its commitment to operational reliability and transparency. OTP is a measure of how often an airline is on time and is an indicator of the airline's ability to meet its commitment to punctuality for its customers. Between April and June 2025, SalamAir operated 5,144 flights and carried 712,610 passengers, achieving an OTP of 88%. This is a 12% improvement in OTP compared to Q1, which was 78%, and demonstrates the airline's dedication to maintaining punctuality despite operational and political challenges across the region. While flight operations during this period were impacted by regional conflicts and other external circumstances beyond our control, SalamAir continued to deliver strong performance and ensure a reliable service for its customers. 'Delivering on-time service is not just a metric, it's a promise we make to every passenger who chooses to fly with us,' said Mohsin Al Balushi, Ground Operations Director of SalamAir. 'Achieving an OTP of 88% in Q2, above global benchmarks and up from 78% in Q1, reflects the dedication of our team and the trust of our customers.' Since Q3 2024, SalamAir has committed to publicly sharing OTP results on a quarterly basis. This initiative aims to offer greater transparency and help travelers make informed decisions based on reliable performance metrics. OTP is calculated based on the percentage of flights departing within 15 minutes of the scheduled time and includes all causes of delay, demonstrating a true reflection on airline performance and customer experience. © Muscat Media Group Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc.
