Harith Noah returns to action at W2RC's South African Safari Rally
Sun City (South Africa): Indian rally-raid sensation Harith Noah is set to make his return to competitive racing in Rally 2 category at the newly introduced South African Safari Rally, scheduled to start from the Sun City Resort from May 18 to 24, 2025.
The rally marks Round 3 of the FIA FIM World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC) 2025, and Harith's first competitive return to W2RC after an injury-led exit at the Dakar Rally, earlier this January.
Noah, who is part of the Sherco TVS Rally Factory, returns after an early exit from Dakar 2025, where a crash during Prologue left him with a fractured wrist and forced him to withdraw early. Despite the setback, Noah completed the stage before scans confirmed the injury that required immediate surgery. Now, just four months later, he's looking forward to tackling the unforgiving South African landscape and getting back in the mix for his 2025 campaign, with future rounds and a longer-term goal of mounting a strong challenge for Dakar 2026.
'After Dakar, I needed time to recover from the injury, but everything went well and I'm back to full fitness now. This is my first race since the crash, so there are definitely some nerves, which is normal. But the South African Safari Rally is a new challenge for everyone, the route is unfamiliar territory across the board. The key is to stay calm, get used to the bike again, and take it one kilometre at a time.' said Harith Noah.
South African Safari Rally brings the W2RC to South Africa for the very first time, promising a groundbreaking addition to the championship and offering one of the most challenging, scenic, and diverse rally routes yet. With extreme terrains and rapidly changing climates, the Safari Rally is poised to become a standout fixture on the W2RC calendar.
The 2025 W2RC season features five rounds across three continents, pushing riders through a wide spectrum of terrains and conditions. The year kicked off with the legendary Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia, followed by the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. Now, the championship heads into uncharted territory with the debut of the South African Safari Rally. The final two rounds will take riders to Portugal for the BP Ultimate Rally Raid in September, before culminating with the iconic Rallye du Maroc in October.
Noah's return is significant not just from a personal standpoint, but also for Indian motorsport. With the W2RC expanding its global footprint, Indian representation in such high-level events plays a key role in elevating the country's presence in off-road racing.

Replacements for ‘serious injury' on six-month trial in domestic first-class cricket
Starting October, replacements will be trialled in domestic first-class cricket for players who suffer 'serious injury' during a game. The trial would be conducted by full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and will allow 'like-for-like' replacement any time during a game, including the warm-up period, the BBC reported. As of now, like-for-like replacements for a whole game are allowed only for concussions while for other issues, a replacement can only field or keep wicket. They are not allowed to bat or bowl. 'Substitute shall not bowl or act as captain but may act as wicketkeeper only with the consent of the umpires,' the relevant law states. What constitutes 'serious injury' has not been defined but during the trial period, substitutes may not be allowed for minor niggles. Often, a serious injury during a game can gravely disadvantage one side, which may be left without a front-line bowler. It can affect the batting side of things as well as runners are no longer allowed. During the recent Test against England, Zimbabwe fast bowler Richard Ngarva had a back injury and had to leave the field. When he returned, he was not allowed to bowl as he had spent a lot of time off the field. He looked in discomfort and had to leave the field again, according to the BBC. Earlier this year, Jasprit Bumrah's back injury during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney more or less decided the fate of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India's pace spearhead, who had a memorable series Down Under, had to walk off, much to the relief of the Aussies, who capitalized to claim the bilateral trophy for the first time in a decade. In that game, even if a like-for-like substitute had been allowed for Bumrah, he wouldn't have been of the same class. But it would have allowed the Indian team another bowling option with the stakes so high. If the law change is allowed after the six-month trial period, umpires would have to be on their toes to ensure there is no misuse. Normal substitutes are often employed to give some players, especially fast bowlers, rest between spells. An agile substitute can impact a game by taking a catch, affecting a run-out or simply by saving some runs. There have even been allegations of abuse of the concussion protocol where a like-for-like replacement hasn't come in, but someone more likely to succeed in the given conditions.

As part of the agreement, selected fuel stations operated by Adani Total Gas Ltd (ATGL) will begin selling Jio-bp's high-performance petrol and diesel. Meanwhile, CNG dispensing units from ATGL will be installed at Jio-bp's outlets. The agreement spans both current and upcoming stations from both companies. ATGL, a joint venture between the Adani Group and French energy giant TotalEnergies, operates approximately 650 CNG stations and is a major player in India's city gas distribution (CGD) sector. In contrast, Jio-bp—a collaboration between Reliance Industries and UK-based BP—manages a nationwide network of around 2,000 fuel stations. Jio-bp Statement Sarthak Behuria, Chairman of Jio-bp, said, 'We are united by a shared vision to offer our customers a superior selection of high-quality fuels. The business relationship between the two conglomerates first took shape last year when Reliance acquired a 26 percent stake in an Adani Power project located in Madhya Pradesh. As part of that deal, Reliance secured 500 MW of electricity from the plant for captive consumption.
