The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation won the grand prize Wednesday in the environmental, social and governance management category of the 2025 Korea National Brand Awards for the second consecutive year.
Hosted by the New York Festivals, the annual award recognizes top performers in each category based on the National Brand Competitiveness Index, which evaluates brand awareness, identity, satisfaction, loyalty and global competitiveness.
The Korean food trade agency, also known as aT, first received the ESG management award in 2024, the year the category was introduced, and has retained its top position this year.
Since declaring its commitment to ESG management in 2021, the agency has implemented a range of initiatives, including the launch of Korea On-line Wholesale Produce Market to digitize agricultural distribution and the creation of the Climate Change Response Department. It has also introduced support programs such as food packages for underprivileged children and smart farm training for individuals with developmental disabilities.
'It is an honor to be selected as Korea's top national brand in ESG for a second year,' said aT President Hong Moon-pyo. 'We will continue promoting ESG initiatives that contribute to a prosperous future for farmers, fishers and rural communities.'

Hyundai amps up EV performance with Ioniq 6 N launch

Korean automaker unleashes 650-horsepower speedster at UK's premier motor event Hyundai Motor unveiled the Ioniq 6 N at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England, on Thursday, bolstering its high-performance all-electric vehicle resume. 'With Ioniq 6 N, Hyundai N aims to elevate its offerings, enticing drivers with electric powertrains that offer high-performance enthusiasts a thrilling new avenue to electrify their passion both on the road and the track,' said Jose Munoz, CEO of Hyundai Motor Company. The Ioniq 6 N's key technical advancements, such as its fully redesigned suspension geometry and an improved virtual gear shift system called the N e-Shift, led to a maximum 650 horsepower and 770 newton-meters of torque. According to the automaker, the powerful acceleration system allows the Ioniq 6 N to reach 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.2 seconds from standstill with a top speed of 257 kph. The new high-performance EV measures 4,935 millimeters in length, 1,940 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,965 mm. It also includes an 84-kilowatt-hour high-voltage battery. The EV's projected driving range was not disclosed as the automaker is expected to announce the figure at each regional market launch. Hyundai Motor highlighted that the Ioniq 6 N was developed on the three-pillar philosophy of the high-performance N brand: corner rascal, racetrack capability and everyday sports car. The high-performance EV boasts N Battery, the brand's revamped battery management system that can adapt to various track driving scenarios for higher and longer-lasting performance. Donning a new color named Performance Blue Pearl, the Ioniq 6 N exhibits a reengineered chassis beneath its shiny exterior for better track performance while maintaining the comfort of daily driving. A lowered roll center also offers greater stability at high speeds and an improved cornering grip. According to Hyundai Motor, the Ioniq 6 N has been equipped with new stroke-sensing electronically controlled suspension dampers, which allow for a wide range of damping force adjustments for more responsive handling in different driving conditions. 'Ioniq 6 N combines formidable power, sophisticated battery management, aerodynamic mastery and advanced suspension systems to deliver a compelling blend of speed, stability and comfort, setting new benchmarks in modern automotive engineering,' said Manfred Harrer, head of vehicle development tech unit at Hyundai Motor. Hyundai Motor once again chose this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed for the world premiere of the Ioniq 6 N. The Korean automaker unveiled its first all-electric high-performance sport utility vehicle, the Ioniq 5 N, at the same international motorsports event in 2023. Hyundai Motor plans to display the Ioniq 6 N at Lotte Premium Outlet in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, for the first time in Korea from Saturday to July 20.

Korea's market cap tops W3,000tr for 1st time amid Kospi rally

Bank of Korea holds rate at 2.5% to curb debt, but signals possible cut within months Fueled by a rally in the benchmark Kospi, South Korea's combined stock market capitalization sharply increased, surpassing the 3,000 trillion won ($2.18 trillion) threshold for the first time Thursday. According to data provided by the bourse operator Korea Exchange, the total market capitalization of stocks listed on the local bourse reached 3,020.8 trillion won as of Thursday's closing. By market, the benchmark Kospi accounted for 2,603.7 trillion won, while the secondary bourse Kosdaq and Konex, known as a stepping stone market, stood at 413.9 trillion won and 3.2 trillion won, respectively. In recent months, the Kospi has experienced a sharp rally, with its market valuation rising by over 600 trillion won from around 1,963 trillion at the end of 2024. The bullish Kospi closed trading at 3,183.23, up 49.49 points or 1.58 percent from the previous trading day. It surpassed the previous year-high set at 3,133.74 in just a day. It was the first time the Kospi had closed above 3,180 since September 2021. Foreign investors and institutional investors each net bought shares worth 445.8 billion won and 41.6 billion won on the Kospi, while retail investors dumped 560 billion won. "While US President Donald Trump continues to exert pressure through tariffs, the market placed more weight on the possibility of a trade deal," analyst Kim Ji-won at KB Securities said. 'The Korean government's policy momentum continues. Expectations for a boost in undervalued stocks have been steadily growing, as measures such as mandatory treasury share cancellations and separate taxation on dividend income are being pushed forward faster than anticipated, aimed at enhancing shareholder value." The expectation for eased monetary policy also fueled the stock market. Though the Bank of Korea held its base rate steady at 2.5 percent Thursday, the market viewed the central bank remains on track for a rate cut. 'The rate freeze is necessary to temper excessive expectations for a rate cut,' BOK Gov. Rhee Chang-yong said at a press conference held shortly after the rate-setting meeting. The rate freeze was executed to rein in mounting household debt amid a resurgent property market. "Housing prices, especially in the Seoul metropolitan area, are rising faster than they did in August last year," Rhee said. 'The policy priority lies in stabilizing market expectations and managing household loans to prevent a rise in housing prices." Rhee further explained that four out of six members of the Monetary Policy Board, excluding himself, left the door open for a possible rate cut within the next three months, while the other two took a more cautious stance. Rhee's own suggestion was not disclosed. Since October, the bank has been alternating between rate cuts and holds, bringing down the policy rate by a cumulative 1 percentage point to support the sluggish economy. "Rhee explained that while financial stability must be prioritized, at the same time, stimulus policies remain necessary due to the low-growth environment," Ahn Ye-ha, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities, said. 'While the rate cut could be delayed until October as the BOK assesses the impact of the real estate policies, the possibility of a rate cut in August remains high, provided the low-growth trend does not change significantly.'
