2 arrests made after stabbing in Citrus Heights business
The Citrus Heights Police Department said its officers responded shortly after noon on Sunday to a report of a violent altercation between two groups inside a business on Auburn Boulevard, just north of Antelope Road.
Two men with stab wounds were taken to area hospitals and are expected to survive, police said.
Citrus Heights police said that witness accounts and the department's real-time information center helped identify and track the suspects' whereabouts.
Alejandro Roque, Jr., 19, and Moses Leyva, 18, were arrested after being pulled over in the neighboring city of Antelope. Citrus Heights police said two guns were recovered from the car. Both men have been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
Roque faces charges of felony battery causing serious bodily injury and carrying a concealed firearm, police said. Leyva faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed firearm.
Police said that additional individuals are being sought for questioning. Anyone who may have information relevant to the investigation should contact the Citrus Heights Police Department.

Richardson was booked in South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, WA on Sunday evening, according to jail records. She was released on Monday afternoon. Richardson and Coleman went public with their relationship in February, though Coleman reportedly told police that the two have been together for two years. Per the report, Coleman refused to press charges and "declined to be a victim," via The Athletic. USA Track and Field said in a statement to USA TODAY that the organization was aware of the reports, but did not provide any additional comment. Richardson competed in the USA Track and Field championships in Eugene, Oregon, running in the first round of the women's 100 meter race on Thursday. With a time of 11.07 seconds, Richardson came in 11th place, missing the cut for the semifinal race on Friday. She is set to compete in the first round of the women's 200m on Sunday.

Devil's Den murder suspect had been investigated by Texas school district in 2023
The suspect arrested in the murder of an Arkansas couple in front of their children at Devil's Den State Park was an elementary school teacher who'd been placed on administrative leave at a school district two years ago for improper conduct. Andrew James McGann, 28, was arrested on July 30 in the murders of Clinton David Brink, 43, and his wife, Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, at Devil's Den State Park in West Fork, Arkansas, on July 26, according to Arkansas State Police. The Brinks had been with their 7-year-old and 9-year-old daughters, who are safe with family. McGann has been charged with two counts of capital murder. McGann was hired as a teacher to begin employment with Springdale Public Schools for the 2025-2026 school year, Superintendent Jared Cleveland said in a statement provided to USA TODAY. Cleveland said McGann had not begun employment with the district or been in contact with any of the district's students or families. Before his employment by Springdale, McGann had been employed at another school district for several years. New detail emerge: School teacher charged with capital murder Suspect administrative leave at Texas school district During the 2022-2023 school year, McGann was an educator at Donald Elementary, part of Lewisville Independent School District in Flower Mound, Texas, Samantha FitzPatrick, spokesperson for Lewisville ISD, told USA TODAY. In spring 2023, McGann was placed on administrative leave by the district following concerns related to "classroom management, professional judgement and student favoritism," FitzPatrick said. An internal investigation found no evidence of inappropriate behavior with students, and McGann resigned from Lewisville ISD in May 2023, FitzPatrick said. Following the announcement of McGann's charges, Lewisville ISD sent a letter to families who previously had students in McGann's 2022-2023 class. "I know news like this can be unsettling. Please know that the safety, well-being and trust of our students and families will always be our top priority," the letter, provided to USA TODAY, states. "If you or your child needs support during this time, our counseling team is here and ready to help." As of Aug. 1, McGann's Texas teaching license remained effective through August 2028, according to the Texas Department of Education. A move to Oklahoma After resigning from Lewisville ISD, McGann was hired as a fifth-grade teacher at Spring Creek Elementary in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, for the 2023-2024 school year, Tara Thompson, spokesperson for Broken Arrow Public Schools, told USA TODAY. McGann left of his own accord to work in a different state. Thompson said McGann passed all legally required background checks before his hiring. Despite what he'd said to the school in Broken Arrow, McGann did not move out of Oklahoma. Following his leave, he was hired to teach fifth grade at Northwoods Fine Arts Academy, a part of Sand Springs Public Schools, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, for the 2024-2025 school year, according to a district statement. At the end of the school year, McGann resigned to move out of the state. McGann passed the mandatory background check before his hiring, the Sand Springs Public School statement said. What happened to the Brinks? Arkansas State Police said the Brink family was hiking together at the state park when the mother and father were "fatally attacked." State police were notified of the incident at about 2:40 p.m. local time on July 26. Authorities discovered the two young girls, who told police that "something had happened to their parents on the trail," Major Stacie Rhoads, of the state police, said during a news conference. "They absolutely protected those girls to their fullest extent, to the point that they cost them their lives. We're in awe of this mom and dad," said Col. Mike Hagar, director of the Arkansas State Police. "We're also in awe of these girls. The information that they were able to provide to start us down this path, to be able to make this arrest." The couple's bodies were found by police on a trail in the state park. The suspect's weapon was identified as a knife, and the victims died from stab wounds, Hagar said. Hagar added that the suspect was injured in the incident, which resulted in blood loss at the scene. The blood "allowed us to establish a DNA profile to begin with," he said. The daughters provided a description of the suspect and another witness at the park was able to describe the suspect's vehicle. Based on the descriptions, Rhoads said, investigators received multiple photos and videos from the public that helped them track down the vehicle and create a composite sketch of the suspect. Authorities located McGann's vehicle at a local barber shop and took him into custody. Rhoads said investigators did not believe the suspect was going to flee the area. In addition to the two daughters on the hike, the Brinks had a third daughter who was not with the family that day, Hager said. Suspect in Davis Picnic Day shooting now faces federal charge
A suspect arrested in connection with a shooting on Picnic Day in Davis that left three people wounded is now facing federal charges, prosecutors announced on Friday. Federal prosecutors said a criminal complaint was unsealed on Friday, charging 19-year-old Joseph Davis with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Officials said during a search of Davis' apartment, law enforcement seized a short-barrel AR-15 style pistol. Prosecutors said he was prohibited from possessing any firearms and ammunition due to a previous conviction for a gun possession offense. The Davis Police Department announced Davis was arrested in May on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and several firearms-related charges, such as possession of an illegal assault rifle, in connection with the shooting at Community Park on April 12. He has since pleaded not guilty. The shooting left two teenagers and a 24-year-old woman with non-life-threatening injuries. The Davis Police Department has said it suspects there was more than one shooter and the suspects are believed to be outside of the Davis area. However, no other arrests have been announced. Federal prosecutors said Davis could face up to 15 years in prison if he's convicted on the charge. Davis's next scheduled appearance in Yolo County court is on Tuesday.
