Fifth body found in Belawai boat tragedy, five still missing
Search operations continue for five missing individuals following the capsizing incident off Pantai Belawai.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department confirmed the recovery of a boy's body at 6 pm, approximately 300 metres from the accident site. His age remains undetermined.
'Five victims have been confirmed dead, five are still missing, and seven were rescued. All missing victims are adult males,' said a department spokesperson.
The boat, carrying 17 Indonesian nationals, capsized yesterday afternoon while travelling from Kampung Belawai fishermen's jetty to the Zion Pelita Coconut Plantation jetty.
Survivors include four men, two women, and a boy.
Earlier victims recovered included two adult women, a boy, and a girl. Search efforts, covering a three-kilometre radius, involve multiple agencies, including the police, maritime enforcement, and local volunteers.
Operations were suspended at 6.40 pm and will resume tomorrow. - Bernama

Three held for selling fake medical certificates
SUNGAI PETANI: Three men have been arrested on suspicion of being masterminds in the sale of fake medical certificates (MCs) in the district over the past two years. Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said the group's modus operandi involved issuing MCs without the need for any medical consultation or treatment. He said the case came to light during a probe into a breach of integrity involving a low-ranking police personnel who had frequently submitted MCs. 'This led to the discovery of the group selling fake MCs,' he told a press conference at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters here yesterday. He said during a raid on a premises in Taman Songket Indah near here on June 26, police seized various items including about 20 fake MCs, tablets, rubber stamps bearing the names of doctors, A4-sized paper, a laptop and a printer, Bernama reported. He said the three unemployed suspects, in their 30s and 40s, allegedly sold fake MCs for RM25 to RM30, targeting civil servants as their primary 'customers'. The main suspect was found to be a heart patient currently receiving treatment at a hospital, he added. 'During each hospital visit, the suspect would note down the attending doctor's name and later use it on rubber stamps. 'Most of the names were those of actual doctors, but the job titles were inaccurate,' ACP Hanyan said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 468 of the Penal Code.

TANJUNG MANIS (July 7): The second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation for victims of the tragic boat capsize off Pantai Belawai yesterday brought another heartbreaking discovery, as rescuers found the body of a young boy. According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body was recovered at around 6pm, about 300 metres downstream from the SAR operations post. The current tally stands at five confirmed dead, five still missing, and seven rescued. Among the deceased already identified are two women and three children. All five missing persons are adult men. The incident last Saturday involved a fibre boat carrying 17 Indonesian nationals from the Kampung Belawai fishermen's jetty to a plantation workers' jetty at the Pelita Zone. The SAR operation resumed early yesterday morning involving personnel from multiple agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Civil Defence Force, Sarawak Rivers Board, People's Volunteer Corps, Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit, and local villagers.
