"Central govt refusing to cooperate in crackdown on drug trafficking": AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj

New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): AAP leader and Delhi Unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday levelled allegations against the BJP-led Central Government and claimed that the Delhi Police--under direct control of the Centre--is obstructing crucial anti-drug operations by Punjab Police across the national capital. According to an official release, the AAP Delhi State President alleged that the Centre was playing politics on an issue as serious as narcotics and demanded immediate cooperation with state agencies to dismantle the drug trafficking network operating in Delhi. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, 'We all know that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a sustained and major crackdown is underway against drug abuse and those engaged in the drug trade. For years, former Punjab Minister Vikramjit Singh Majithia's name has been repeatedly linked with the drug business in Punjab. Just a few days ago, Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Department in connection with a drug-related case.' He added, 'As part of this investigation, the Punjab Police and Vigilance Department are today conducting raids in several states across the country.' Saurabh Bharadwaj further said, 'It is with great regret that I share with you all that the Punjab Police and Vigilance Department have been seeking to conduct raids at multiple locations in Delhi since this morning. However, the Delhi Police, which reports directly to the BJP-led Central Government, is refusing to cooperate with the Punjab Police and Vigilance Department in executing these raids.' He stated, 'It appears deliberate efforts are being made to obstruct these raids in Delhi, potentially allowing other culprits involved in the drug racket to destroy evidence and evade arrest.' Appealing to the Central Government, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, 'Drug addiction is a serious issue that is destroying our future generations and ruining our youth. On such a sensitive issue, the Central Government must rise above politics and extend full cooperation to state governments.' AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi took to X and posted, 'Has a deal been struck between BJP and Vikram Majithia, accused in the drug money case? Now, the BJP is saving Majithia from the drug money case; in return, Majithia will join the BJP. Since this morning, Punjab Police have been present to raid two important locations in Delhi. But the BJP's Delhi Police is not allowing the raid to happen. Why is BJP protecting the accused in the drug money case?' (ANI)

Karnataka: Siddaramaiah slams railway fare hike, says common man will bear the brunt

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 2 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticised the Centre for increasing railway fares, saying it would burden students, daily wage workers, small traders, and the common man, while accusing the BJP of double standards for protesting against state government policies but remaining silent on the Centre's decision. 'Railway fares hiked!! Who bears the brunt? The daily wage workers, students, small traders, and the common man struggling under rising prices,' Siddaramaiah said in his X post on Tuesday. Demanding an immediate rollback of the hike, Siddaramaiah said he stood with the people of Karnataka and the country who are forced to pay more for essential travel. 'This fare hike must be rolled back immediately. Don't make people's daily travel another jumla. Let the trains run, not the people's patience,' he said. He took a swipe at the Karnataka unit of the BJP, saying the party had no problem protesting against milk price hikes meant to help farmers but stayed silent on a decision that burdens ordinary people. 'When we increased milk prices to help our farmers, @BJP4Karnataka shouted in the streets and called it 'anti-people'. But now, when the @BJP4India-led Union government hikes railway fares, there is deafening silence. Why? Because this hike doesn't help farmers or the poor--it only helps the BJP government fill its own coffers,' he added. Siddaramaiah also drew a comparison with the Bengaluru Metro fare hike, accusing the BJP of blaming the state government despite the hike being recommended by a central committee. 'When metro fares were hiked in Karnataka after 8 years, BJP leaders rushed to blame the Congress government, ignoring the fact that the fare hike decision was taken by a fare fixation committee constituted by the Union Government itself. Back then, the Centre manipulated the narrative to place the burden on us. Now, with this railway fare hike, who will they place the burden on?' he said. The Ministry of Railways has announced a rationalisation of passenger train fares, which came into effect on July 1, 2025. As per the new structure, fares for non-suburban ordinary second-class coaches will increase by half a paisa per kilometre for journeys exceeding 500 km. This means a fare increase of Rs 5 for journeys between 501-1500 km, Rs 10 for 1501-2500 km, and Rs 15 for 2501-3000 km. Sleeper and first-class fares will also rise by the same per-kilometre rate. Mail and express trains will see second-class fares rise by one paisa per kilometre, with proportionate increases for other classes. However, fares for suburban trains and season tickets will remain unchanged. (ANI)

Congress's history suggests coal was allotted on cigarette wrappers: Union MoS Dubey

Baikunthpur (Chhattisgarh) [India], July 1 (ANI): Launching a scathing attack on the previous Congress-led government in Chhattisgarh, Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey alleged on Tuesday that the history of Congress suggests that the coal was allotted on wrappers of cigarettes. When asked about several officials who had gone to jail for their alleged involvement in a coal scam that surfaced during the rule of the previous Congress government in Chhattisgarh, the Union Minister alleged, 'This is the history of Congress. You may remember that this is the same coal that used to be allotted on cigarette wrappers, and whoever comes first used to get it.' 'Under the Modi government, the tenders are issued only to those who fulfil the criteria and participate in the tendering process, and the work is being done with transparency as well as honesty,' he emphasised. 'Be it Atmanirbhar Bharat, Viksit Bharat, vocal for local or Make in India, all these initiatives point towards one goal of strengthening India,' said Union Minister Dubey, elaborating that this strengthening should have happened long ago, but, the previous governments came and started treating public money as their personal earning. The Union MoS asserted that the Modi government is steadily moving forward with a clear goal, working consistently towards the development and is successfully achieving it. 'Security arrangements in underground mines are being reviewed in a timely manner and ensure the safety of everyone with the employment of modern technologies,' he said. Notably, the Union Minister was on a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh and had visited the mines operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). During his visit to the Churcha mines of SECL at Baikunthpur on Tuesday, the minister interacted with the officials and workers of the mine and also inaugurated a mechanical ventilator. On the occasion, the minister closely took stock of the factors impacting the target of coal production and opined that Churcha mines will definitely achieve the target set for coal production.
