Alias Totoy didn't link any NBI agent to missing sabungero case —Santiago
'Alam ninyo, sa isang programa, ay sinabi na ni Totoy na hindi naman daw niya sinasabi na merong involvement ang NBI,' Santiago said in a press briefing.

'Kasi sinabihan ko yesterday… sinabihan ko siya na kung sinuman ang NBI na involved, pangalanan mo. Kung hindi mo alam ang pangalan, pwede naman magpa-lineup. But then, in one program, inamin niya na wala siyang sinasabi na may involved na NBI,' he added.

On Monday, Santiago dared Patidongan to name the NBI agents allegedly involved in the alleged execution of the missing sabungeros.
Santiago said the NBI was vindicated by the clarification.
'Ang tiwala ng tao sa amin ayaw ko masira. Ang NBI ay isang institution na pinagkakatiwalaan ng tao,' he said.
(I don't want to break the people's trust in us. The NBI is an institution that the public relies on.)
Meanwhile, Santiago reiterated that the NBI is willing to extend its aid in the case, saying that no coordination with the Department of Justice is needed as the bureau is an attached agency.
'Sabi ko nga, pinagyayabang ko nga we have forensic expertise on the matter: DNA, lie detection, whatever. Kung anong gustong ipa-assist sa amin, kung anong gustong itulong sa amin ay ibibigay namin,' he said.
(As I said, I was pointing out that we have forensic expertise on the matter: DNA, lie detection, whatever. Whatever assistance they want from us, whatever help they need, we will provide.)
Patidongan previously said that the bodies of the 34 missing sabungeros were buried in Taal Lake.
He has also named businessman Atong Ang as a mastermind in the case. He also linked actress Gretchen Barretto to the disappearance.
The two have denied the allegations against them, with Ang saying that Patidongan threatened to link him to the disappearance if he refused to pay P300 million while Barretto said she received a similar threat. —AOL, GMA Integrated News

BI: 3 trafficking victims rescued at NAIA; 'overstaying' Korean to be deported
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) rescued three Filipino human trafficking victims supposedly bound for Spain and is currently processing the deportation of an overstaying South Korean. According to the bureau, the victims — two males and one female, who are in their late 30s and 40s — allegedly attempted to board an Emirates airline flight to Spain at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) when they were stopped by immigration personnel. The victims initially said they were working in a local tech company and were headed to Spain to attend a conference. However, immigration officers doubted their statement and referred them for secondary inspection. They then admitted that they are travelling to Spain for work and that they were recruited and that they paid over P300,000 to a contact they met on social media. "The said recruiter promised to provide them with all the necessary documentary requirements, and assistance to depart the country illegally," according to the statement posted by the bureau. Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado said they are investigating if any immigration personnel were involved in the incident. 'In line with the BI's one strike policy, we will not hesitate to take necessary legal action against those involved in human trafficking,' Viado said. The victims were turned over to the inter-agency council against trafficking for investigation and filing of cases against their recruiters. Overstaying foreigner nabbed Meanwhile, immigration authorities apprehended a South Korean man in Tubigon, Bohol over alleged overstaying. Suspect Park Yeungtae, 56, was arrested in his residence in Barangay Pooc Oriental in July 23 after allegedly failing to update his immigration status since 2016. His continued presence in the country was deemed in violation of the Philippine Immigration Act, according to the BI. 'Our officers continue to monitor and act on cases of foreign nationals who choose to overstay and disregard our immigration policies,' said Viado. 'The Bureau maintains zero tolerance for such violations. The law applies to everyone — no exceptions,' he added. Following his arrest, the foreigner was transported via ferry to Cebu City and temporarily held at the Mabolo Police Station. He is scheduled for transfer to the BI's facility in Manila. He will also undergo deportation proceedings and included in the BI's blacklist to prevent future re-entry into the country. 'The Philippines welcomes foreigners who respect our laws. But if you break them, we will take the necessary legal action,' said Viado. 'Overstaying is not a minor offense. EGov PH app to add new features
The government's flagship super app, eGov PH, is set to have new features to further boost ease of access to bureaucratic services. This was announced by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. in his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). In particular, the eGov PH app will soon have additional features such as application and renewal of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearances, Beep Card integration for Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) commuters, and access to the Bureau of Internal Revenue's (BIR) electronic Taxpayer Identification Number (eTIN) system. The eGov app was developed to eliminate long-standing inefficiencies in public service—such as long lines, fixers, and repeat visits to multiple agencies—by delivering key government services through a single digital platform. Currently, the app allows users to renew driver's licenses, access PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and GSIS services, process immigration and customs documents for overseas Filipino workers, retrieve digital copies of the PhilSys National ID, create biodata for job applications and many more. The app also provides official government news and advisories to help Filipinos stay informed and avoid misinformation. Marcos has described the flagship app as a central pillar of his administration's efforts to bring government services closer to the people via digital transformation. Launched in 2023, the eGov PH app has so far recorded over 14 million registered users and facilitated over 200 million digital transactions nationwide. Fake optometrist nabbed in Manila
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday said that it has arrested an individual for practicing optometry without a license in Manila. The NBI said the suspect was nabbed in an entrapment operation at an optical center in the city on July 17. An agent posed as a patient and was attended by the subject. The NBI agents immediately arrested him after handing him the marked money. The suspect underwent inquest for violation of the Revised Optometry Law of 1995 and Falsification by Private Individuals and Use of Falsified Documents.
