Stalker came to influencer's home with rope and horror '50 Shades of Grey' plan
A 'delusional' British stalker faces jail after being found guilty of threatening to kidnap an American travel influencer and then travelling to her home in Bali with rope in his suitcase.
Rob Keating sent 'incessant and constant' messages to Alexandra Saper in which he shared his graphic sexual fantasies including that he would 'go 50 Shades of Grey' on her and wanted to abduct her. The 39-year-old went 'from follower to stalker' after becoming obsessed with her posts on Instagram, booking a one way ticket to the tropical Indonesian paradise while warning her to 'get kidnapp insurance'.
He visited bars and restaurants just metres from her home and continued to message her whilst she was in Bali, telling her 'you're never getting rid of me'. Ms Saper - a former lawyer who now makes money from her Instagram page 'The Wayfarer' which has more than 100,000 followers - told the court she fled the country because she was so 'terrified' he would find her.
In a video about her ordeal, posted at the time, Ms Saper also said she felt she was being 'hunted like prey'. On his return to the UK in March 2023, Keating was arrested by police who found black rope and a tie in his suitcase.
Keating told police in an interview that he was not sexually attracted to Ms Saper, but said that 'she had shown an interest in him and there could be something there' between the two. In videos he often referred to the influencer as his 'Spartan Queen'.
He continued to stalk Ms Saper between September and November 2024, at which point he lived in Horsham in West Sussex. Keating posted a picture of a plane ticket from London to Bali with the caption 'round 2' on his Instagram in November.
Keating was subsequently arrested. Now, at Portsmouth Crown Court, Hants, he has been found guilty of two counts of stalking involving serious harm or distress following a 6 day trial.
The jury deliberated for just two hours and, when reading the verdict to Keating, Judge Michael Bowes KC said a prison sentence was 'inevitable'. Closing the case, prosecutor Alexandra Bull described Keating as 'indulging' in a 'wilful self delusion' involving a 'one dimensional' version of the influencer as he 'moved from follower to stalker'.
"He began to indulge in wilful self-delusion, all those genuine emotions he felt from following was not enough," she said. "The person he started fantasising about was entirely one dimensional, they are a character he has never met...
"It is her job to make people feel better about themselves but that is just one part of Ms Saper... When Ms Saper's generic posts were not enough for him he wanted to take it to the next level.
"What he wanted was her attention on him." She continued: "Her job is to appeal to a wider audience and he knows that, this is a wilful delusion.
"Does this justify his behaviour, he provides himself with an excuse, he tries to convince himself Ms Saper is trying to contact him, it is just his fantasy." The traffic worker, who lived in his sister's garage in Havant, Hants, first contacted Ms Saper on Instagram in July 2022 with a ' weird and creepy' message to which the influencer responded 'dude, why are you following me if you don't like my content'.
She blocked Keating on the social media platform after he shared extracts from the erotic S&M novel 50 Shades of Grey. However, he then began bombarding her with videos and messages over email and used another profile to continue viewing her posts, which he believed were secret messages to him.
Ms Saper tried to block his emails too but that just sent them to her spam folder. The court was shown over an hour of footage from these videos in which Keating told Ms Saper to get 'kidnap insurance' and that he was going to 'spank' her.
He told her she was 'allowing him' to 'run with it' regarding his contact with her, but added: "Either that, or you're not interested and not watching these videos and I've lost my mind or something." In a video from December 2022, Keating said: "You're going to have to reply to me eventually - there's talk about coming to Bali to get you."
In February 2023 he did travel to Bali, posting a picture of the plane he was about to board with the caption 'let the games begin'. Ms Saper was so concerned that she fled to the nearby Southeast Asian country of Laos to put distance between her and Keating.
Giving evidence at court, the influencer said she 'didn't think' he would actually make the trip to the tropical island. "I blocked him on everything and never responded, so that was a pretty clear indication of not wanting contact," Ms Saper added.
"I was aware that he was talking about coming to Bali, but I didn't think it would actually happen. shared because I wanted my life back, there was nothing I could do staying in hiding," she said. "I was sick, I couldn't eat, I was depressed."
In his own evidence Keating had tried to claim the kidnap threats were just 'playful ridiculousness' and that the ordeal had had 'no adverse effect' on Ms Saper. He tried to tell the court that because of the Anchorman memes on his Instagram profile there was no way she would take him seriously.
He will be sentenced at a later date.

‘A shark ate my arm and leg - I wouldn't change a thing'
February 11, 2009, began as an average day for Paul de Gelder. He was conducting a military operation in Sydney Harbour as part of the navy, but while in the water he felt a whack on the back of his leg – it was the jaws of a bull shark. 'I thought the guys on the boat got too close to me but I looked down and there's a massive shark's head attached to my leg.' Paul tells Metro. 'I'm thinking, 'I've seen Shark Week, I'll jab it in the eye but I can't move my arm. I look down and my hand is trapped in the shark's mouth as well as my leg. I grab it by the nose, try to push it off me but it decides that I'm breakfast, thrashes me around, takes me underwater and the pain is so all encompassing it takes the fight out of me. I was drowning in agony, being eaten alive and I realised there was nothing I could do, so I gave up.' As Paul conceded defeat, the shark's teeth ripped off his hamstring and hand. His wetsuit made him buoyant and to his shock, he floated back to the surface and realised, by some miracle, he was still alive. 'My medical training kicked in. I kept the wound above my head and swam back with one hand and one functioning leg through a massive pool of my own blood.' Hours later Paul woke up in hospital, relieved to see his leg was still attached. 'But I only had the leg for a week. I had my leg removed and the medication couldn't manage my pain so I went through 20 hours of agonising torture, wishing I would die.' The entire attack lasts for eight seconds – eight seconds that would completely change the course of Paul's life. It's a living nightmare few of us could ever imagine, but 16 years later, Paul's life is quite astonishing. Unbelievably, he's now one of the world's leading shark conservationists, devoting his whole life to protecting the animal that almost killed him. 'It has all the emotions – fear, anxiety, happiness. Every spectrum of human emotion is there but it has an underlying message too. It's about the plight of sharks. 'People are out there killing sharks for fun every day and by doing so it's bringing us closer to extinction. If the sharks die, the ocean dies and we die. We're trying to get celebrities and the viewers to fall in love with sharks – which, granted, is hard because they keep biting people.' Chucking British national treasures into shark infested waters is another unexpected adventure for Paul, one more turn he didn't expect his life to take when his limbs were torn from his body. Few will ever know how they'd respond to the trauma of a shark attack, particularly one quite so cataclysmic. More Trending I've rarely met someone with so much self-assurance, so much peace. Paul says coming close to death gave him freedom in life. 'It really just opened my mindset to becoming even more unlimited in what I want to in this world and with my life,' he says. On this day: Flintshire adoption scandal told in documentary
Alan and Judith Kilshaw, who lived in Buckley at the time, made headlines on both sides of the Atlantic in 2000 when they paid £8,200 to adopt twin baby girls from a young American mother, Tranda. The scandal involved the single mother allegedly selling her twins to two different couples for cash - once to another couple in the US, before snatching them back to be sold to a different couple in the UK, Alan and Judith. The twins, Kiara and Keyara, were initially placed with new parents Vickie and Richard who lived in California - who it's alleged paid £4,000 for the children. Alan and Judith, who already had four children, travelled to the US to meet Tranda who had sold the twins to them after reportedly snatching them away from Vickie and Richard. The Buckley couple, who believed they had adopted the twins, renamed them Belinda and Kimberley. A custody battle then began between the two couples, with the twins eventually being given to a different family entirely back in the US. Events surrounding what's come to be known as the 'cash for babies' scandal were covered in the Prime Video documentary Three Mothers, Two Babies and a Scandal in 2022. But this time last year, a Channel 5 documentary launched to bring the gripping tale back to life. 'The Baby Scandal That Shocked The World' was released in July 2024. It revisits the heart-breaking case from the perspective of the women involved - the birth mother and the two adoptive mothers. The documentary synopsis reads: "The story of the internet adoptions of twin babies by two separate families on two different continents, and the transatlantic custody battle and media storm that ensued. "The programme revisits the custody case for the twin girls through each of the mothers' eyes, Tranda, the birth mother; Vickie, the American adoptive mother and Judith, the Welsh adoptive mother." Driver who plowed into L.A. crowd leaving 30 injured, 7 critically, is shot after being attacked by bystanders
A man was dragged from his car by enraged bystanders and shot after he plowed a vehicle into a crowd in Los Angeles, leaving seven people critically injured and at least 23 others hurt outside a nightclub early Saturday morning, police said. Cameras in the area are still being canvassed, but the incident appears to have been intentional, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Two law enforcement sources familiar with the situation said the suspect was kicked out of the venue for being intoxicated and disruptive. Police said they arrested the driver, Fernando Ramirez, 29, who was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently hospitalized and has not been booked into jail, the LAPD said. His condition was not immediately known. Patrol officers with the LAPD responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon in East Hollywood near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard around 2 a.m. "When officers arrived, they found the driver being assaulted by bystanders and determined he had sustained a gunshot wound," the LAPD said in an update. LAPD Sgt. Travis Ward said the driver was shot after the collision, transported to the hospital and taken into surgery. For this reason, he said, the LAPD was unable to determine whether the driver was intoxicated. The LAPD described the person who shot the driver as "a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 180 pounds, bald, wearing a blue jersey, and possibly armed with a silver revolver." The man fled the scene on foot and was last seen going westbound from Vermont Avenue, the LAPD said. Police are asking anyone with information on the shooter to get in touch. Officials did not share the name of the nightclub where the incident occurred, but The Vermont Hollywood released a statement sharing that it happened outside of the venue following an event. "We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the person responsible for this horrific act is held fully accountable," the statement read. The Vermont Hollywood describes itself as a "state of the art, live performance and special event venue" on its official Instagram profile. Photos and videos in the account show a range of events, from concerts and wrestling matches to a 2024 Grammys after-party hosted by SZA. Pictures from the scene showed a bashed-up gray vehicle straddling the sidewalk with debris strewn across the ground. At least a dozen firefighters can be seen alongside a number of people sitting on the ground on blankets. In another picture, firefighters appear to be helping to lift someone off the ground by the car. Videos showed the moments after the car rammed into the busy street. Multiple people could be seen bloodied and on the ground, some screaming. Others could be seen running away from the scene. A woman who had blood running down one of her legs said she couldn't feel either of them. In another video, a group of bystanders could be seen removing an individual who appeared to be the driver from the vehicle before they assaulted him. One video showed the man lying on the ground on his stomach with his hands secured behind his back while one bystander kicked him in the head and another threw what appeared to be a condiment at him. Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center told NBC News that it received patients injured in the incident, and that all of them "were brought in with minor injuries and are currently in stable condition." The medical center did not clarify how many patients it received. "This is a heartbreaking tragedy," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement Saturday. "The hearts of Angelenos are with all of the victims impacted this morning — a full investigation into what happened is underway." A man who was inside the nightclub told NBC News that he heard a 'loud bang' and that a crowd of people ducked believing they'd heard gunshots. 'We look out the club, and it's a car into the hole right there,' he said. 'And then it's crazy, because people everywhere, laying down, unconscious people, bleeding out and stuff.' Capt. Adam VanGerpen, a public information officer for the Los Angeles Fire Department, told NBC News that the vehicle hit a taco cart before running into a large number of people outside a nightclub. He said the fire department was dispatched at 2 a.m. local time. Seven people are in critical condition and six are in serious condition, the LAFD said in a separate statement, with 10 others being treated for injuries. Seven others declined help at the scene. It said 124 fire personnel assisted at the scene. A preliminary victim count listed 18 females and 12 males injured, ranging in age from their mid-20s and to their early 30s, according to the LAPD. The investigation is ongoing.
