Which of the nation's favourites made Hamleys' top toys list of all time?
Hamleys said it compiled its 'hero' 100 list with the help of top buyers to mark its 265th birthday, and included toys that had cultural impact, enduring popularity and historical significance.
Among the top ten is the board game Monopoly, the Nintendo Game Boy and the Tamagotchi virtual pet, which Hamleys described as a 'symbol of 90s tech toy obsession'.
Alongside Barbie, the Action Man, Teletubby, and Frozen singing dolls also made it to the top of the list.
The toy store described Lego, first released in 1958, as 'timeless, creative, and a global phenomenon', noting it had gone on to span toys, films and theme parks.
It said more than one billion Barbie dolls had been sold across the world since its first release in 1959, making it a 'pop culture icon' across the decades.
More than 500 million Rubik's Cubes have been sold since 1974, making it the world's best-selling puzzle toy.
Hamleys said 'eternal classics' such as the hula hoop, spinning tops and marbles were still bought around the world today, despite them being among the first toys sold by the store in 1760.
Victoria Kay, head buyer at Hamleys, said: 'Once you start looking at this, it turns rapidly into a nostalgia-fest – even for toys from four or five years ago.
'My personal favourites are Sindy doll, I was always a Sindy girl as she was a cool British icon.
"I also adored Glo Worm, even though I was maybe a bit old for it and Simon felt like properly, cutting edge, advanced technology when it came out, it was literally the soundtrack of Christmas in the 80s.'
Ms Kay said it was difficult to determine what made a toy popular, but said: 'You can never underestimate the power of togetherness created around some of the big-sellers – those toys that bring people of all ages together – get families around a table talking, playing, challenging, maybe even cheating. Monopoly would be nothing without the competitive family battles that emerge.
'We also mustn't forget that simplicity is often key – the joy of cuddling a doll or storytelling with an action figure or a superfast Hot Wheel car.
'Combined with a good dose of jeopardy and you have something truly memorable – think Operation or Kerplunk, Jenga or Buckaroo – they are so simple.
'I used to panic trying to balance the boot in Mousetrap and be terrified of the noise Operation would make when I got it wrong or just burst with panicky laughter when the Jenga tower finally wobbled and collapsed. Toys like that will last forever.'

Creators of the dolls are 'totally buggin' as the line features main characters Cher and Dionne, bringing to life the essence of the cult-classic 90's movie. Inspired by Jane Austen's novel Emma, Clueless was written and directed by Amy Heckerling and earned $56.7 million worldwide following its July 1995 release. It immediately became a pop culture favorite, with iconic lines like 'whatever!' and, 'she's my friend because we both know what it's like to have people be jealous of us' from main character Cher (Alicia Silverstone) about her best friend Dionne (Stacey Dash). The socially successful and somewhat shallow teens live their luxurious life in Beverly Hills, where they indulge in all things shopping, playing with digital wardrobes and driving enviable convertible cars. After her first day of junior year, Cher takes upon herself philanthropic duties, in which she undertakes the responsibility of giving the new loner girl, Tai, a much needed makeover. She starts to 'bug,' however, when she finds out Tai has become more popular than she ever was, while also struggling with the emotional journey of finding her perfect boyfriend…. which turns out to be her ex-step brother, Josh (Paul Rudd). The movie pokes fun at popular high schoolers of the 90s, while also shedding light on the fact that Cher, the glamorous and rich party girl, struggles with her own self-image issues. 'Girls and women all over the world respond to the movie to this day because the characters have this sense of themselves,' says costume designer Mona May, who spoke to the New York Post. 'Even though Cher had flaws and was self-centered, her actions come from trying to improve the world as she's improving herself.' Its iconic quantities have carried on 30 years later, as Mattel looks to re-imagine the renowned Cher and Dionne duo. Looking to mirror the playful preppy look of the 90s compared to the grunge aesthetic that took the fashion world by storm, Mona May used plaid in Cher and Dionne's duo outfits to show off the defining look of the era. The Cher doll, features her classic sunshine yellow plaid suit with a pleated skirt, matching blazer and over-the-knee white socks. 'The doll also carries a mini white backpack, cellphone and learner's driving permit… a homage to her not-so great driving skills. The Dionne Barbie doll, wears a black-and-white plaid suit with a ribbon and rose donned top hat. 'The doll carries a cellphone as well, obviously. The dolls are now available for pre-order and set to be released to the public on July 19th, with each available for $59.40 on the Walmart website and $55.99 on Amazon and Target websites.

Hamilton to host gala day as Summer Fest kicks off
Musicians, performers, street workshops and a busy market will take over the town centre on Saturday, July 19 Hamilton is getting set for a busy town centre gala day this weekend as one of the highlights of its month-long Summer Fest. Musical performances, street entertainers, face painting and the town's hugely popular market will take over Quarry Street from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, July 19, for the return of 'Hamilton's most vibrant summer tradition'. Organisers promise 'a day to remember' with a host of attractions for all ages across the town centre at the colourful celebration and are inviting residents and visitors to enjoy a day out and support the town's businesses. Musical treats at the gala day include a trio of tribute acts sharing the songs of Abba, Ariana Grande and from The Greatest Showman at the bandstand on Quarry Street, plus singers Conner Wilson and Sisters of Soul. There will be performances and street workshops from Glasgow Capoeira and dancers MLU Squad during the afternoon and visits from entertainers Steve Who, Walking Theatre Co, Think Circus, face painters and a balloon artist. Dozens of busy stalls will also be set up as the regular town-centre market returns with a range of crafts, food and gifts to 'bring the heart of the town to life'.
