Video shows 2 people setting Scarborough restaurant on fire
Video obtained by CTV News Toronto shows the moment two people set ablaze a restaurant at a Scarborough strip mall early Saturday morning.
In the surveillance video, a car arrives in the parking lot of the strip mall located on Kennedy Road, north of Lawrence Avenue East.
Two people, one holding what appears to be a red canister and the other carrying some kind of metal bar, get out of the car and walk towards an establishment.
After breaking the front door using the bar, the two enter the store and stay inside for approximately 30 seconds.
When they get out, one person lights a fire and throws it through the door. The front of the restaurant goes up in flames quickly.
The two suspects return to the car and drive away as flames and thick black smoke shoot out of the restaurant.

Emergency crews received the fire call at around 3:30 a.m.
Speaking to CP24 at the scene, Toronto Fire Platoon Chief Paul Versace said crews responded at around 3:30 a.m. following reports of a 'fire inside a store.'
When crews arrived, Versace said they found a heavy blaze inside and quickly called for a 'second alarm.'
'We had some issues with crews on the roof and the roof was compromised, so we had to go from an offensive to a defensive strategy,' he said, adding that the roof of the building later caved in.
No injuries have been reported, and officials confirmed the main body of the fire has been knocked down.

This incident marks the second consecutive restaurant fire in recent days, after a similar occurrence in the area early Friday morning. However, officials have not commented on whether the two are related.
It's unclear if there will be an investigation by the OFM (Office of the Fire Marshal in Ontario), but Versace notes he did notify investigators.
'We're going to be on scene most of the day given that (the building) collapsed and it's just smouldering,' he said.
Anyone with information is asked to come forward. There are no road closures in the area.

Search underway for 32-year-old woman missing in Annapolis County
A search is underway for a 32-year-old woman last seen in Annapolis County on Saturday afternoon. Nova Scotia RCMP say Kerstin Marie Wetter, who is five foot four inches tall with long blond hair and hazel eyes, went missing from a "loved ones" home near the 9500 block of Highway 10 in Nictaux at around 1:20 p.m Saturday. She was wearing light blue jeans and a black tank top, police say. "They were outside in the yard," said RCMP Cpl. Guillaume Tremblay on Sunday. "When the loved ones came back outside, Kerstin was not present." Tremblay said Wetter left her car at the residence and it's believed she departed on foot. On Sunday, approximately 50 people were part of the active search, including volunteers from ground search and rescue teams in Lunenburg, Yarmouth, Clare, Annapolis Valley, Annapolis County, West Hants, and North Queens. Tremblay said air support is being provided by a Department of Natural Resources helicopter and that remotely piloted aircraft systems from the RCMP and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association have been deployed. Anyone with information about Wetter's whereabouts is encouraged to contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers or to call the Annapolis District RCMP directly.

Man in critical condition after stabbing in Kensington Market
A man was taken to hospital in critical condition after a stabbing in Kensington Market early Sunday morning. Officers responded to reports of a person being stabbed around 5 a.m. near Bellevue Avenue and Denison Square, Toronto police said in a post on X. When police arrived, they found a man in his 40s "serious stab wounds," the post read. He was taken to hospital in critical condition. Wales Avenue is closed near Augusta Avenue Sunday morning, police said. Bellevue Square Park also remained closed to the public as of 1 p.m. Sunday.

B.C. trucker charged with stunt driving in northern Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police stopped the driver at around 4 a.m. on July 29 on Government Road in Kapuskasing. Police observed the commercial motor vehicle travelling at 104 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone – 44 km/h over the speed limit. The 32-year-old man from Surrey, B.C., was charged with stunt driving. Additionally, under Ontario's traffic laws, the tractor portion of the vehicle was impounded for 14 days and the driver's licence was suspended for 30 days. The motorist is scheduled to appear in court in Kapuskasing on Sept. 23 to answer to the charge. Stunt driving penalties and enforcement In Ontario, stunt driving includes driving 40 km/h or more over the speed limit on roads with a posted limit under 80 km/h. The offence also covers dangerous behaviours such as racing and intentionally cutting off other vehicles. 'These high-risk actions endanger everyone on the road,' said police in a news release Sunday. 'The OPP remains committed to saving lives on roads, waterways, and trails by enforcing traffic laws and promoting safe driving habits.'
