Karnataka Milk Federation to launch eco-friendly Nandini milk packets
The new biodegradable milk packets are made from corn starch, sugarcane and other plant-based materials. Unlike conventional polythene packets that take over 500 years to decompose, these eco-friendly alternatives break down naturally within 90 days and can even be converted into organic fertiliser.
The initiative follows a successful pilot programme recently launched by Bangalore Milk Union Limited (Bamul), a branch of KMF.
The trial began at Kanakapura Mega Dairy and is currently being implemented at Hunasanahalli village and surrounding areas.

"So far, the feedback has been very positive. No leakage, no compromise on milk quality, and high consumer satisfaction," said KMF managing director Shivaswamy B.
According to KMF officials, the biodegradable sachets look and feel similar to traditional plastic packaging, offering familiarity to consumers while being significantly more environmentally friendly.

Raghunandan M, director of marketing at KMF, highlighted the broader impact of the switch. "We currently use 20 to 25 lakh plastic milk packets daily. Under the central govt's extended producer responsibility (EPR) policy, we spend heavily on recycling nearly 15,000 metric tonnes of plastic per year. Transitioning to biodegradable packaging will not only reduce this cost but also help us tackle Bengaluru's growing plastic waste problem.

Encouraged by the success of the pilot, KMF plans to roll out biodegradable milk packets across all Nandini outlets in Bengaluru from July. A statewide implementation is expected to follow soon after.
If adopted widely, this initiative could set a new benchmark for sustainable dairy practices in India and significantly reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste in urban areas.

KTPL promoters offer more than the bid amount to settle debt
Mumbai: The promoters of Karanja Terminal & Logistics ( KTPL ) have offered its lenders led by Canara Bank ₹472 crore for a one-time settlement of the company's ₹590 crore debt, people familiar with the matter said. This offer betters Prudent Asset Reconstruction Company 's bid that bankers received through a Swiss auction, they said. Promoters led by Nikhil Gandhi had made an initial offer of around ₹430 crore, which was put through a Swiss challenge auction last month. Under the Swiss challenge auction, counteroffers are invited on the original bid. The original bidder is then given the opportunity to match the best counteroffer, a process used by lenders to maximise their recovery. "In this case, Gandhi's bid which was originally received was put through the challenge process. Prudent ARC bettered that offer with a ₹460 crore bid but Gandhi has bettered it with a ₹472 crore offer," said a person. Noida airport expansion may hit 17k families, 7 govt schools
Noida: The expansion of Noida International Airport is set to uproot more than 4,600 families and force the relocation of seven govt schools. A draft rehabilitation plan — released by the district administration on Wednesday — said more than 17,000 families were likely to be affected directly or indirectly by the acquisition of 1,857 hectares across 14 villages for the airport's third and fourth phases. According to a household survey conducted between May and June, most affected families are small-scale farmers or agricultural labourers, with 58% of them earning between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh annually. Only 4% earn more than Rs 5 lakh a year. The draft plan, prepared on the basis of the survey, said since a large part of the economy was dependent on farming and animal husbandry, the resettlement area should include infrastructure like facilities for livestock. The district administration has earmarked 340 hectares near Jewar town — in Alavalpur, Mangaroli, Ahmedpur Chawroli, and Neemka Shahjahanpur — for rehabilitating the families, planning a new community with modern amenities. Plots ranging from 50 to 500sqm will be allocated to the villagers based on family size. Like sons in the families, they will also receive separate plots and financial assistance. For the 17,945 affected families in total, the package is likely to include a monthly subsistence allowance of Rs 3,000 for a year, Rs 50,000 as transport compensation, and an additional Rs 50,000 for SC/ST families. There will also be provisions for skill training and job preference in airport-related services for one member from each family. Discontent, however, appears to be brewing among a section of villagers. Only 1% of households in Neemka Shahjahanpur, 20% in Khwajpur, and 50% in Thora participated in the survey that preceded the draft plan, seeking better compensation and water security. Apart from households, seven govt schools will have to be relocated from Banwariwas, Kishorepur, Ramner, Neemka Shahjahanpur, Khwajpur, Thora, and Jewar Bangar. According to the plan, land will be allotted to these schools at no cost at the new site, although no compensation will be given for the land currently occupied by them. The draft plan is awaiting approval from the state govt. "Once approved, we'll publish the final scheme and formally declare the resettlement area. The collector will determine land values and calculate the compensation, including a 100% solatium as mandated," said Bacchu Singh, ADM (land acquisition). Landowners, the draft said, will receive Rs 4,300 per sqm in compensation, 40% higher than the rate in previous phases. The expansion will significantly boost the airport's capacity, adding runways, cargo zones, and maintenance areas. "This is a project of national importance," Singh added. The project, which received aviation ministry clearance in 2017, aims to be the country's largest greenfield airport. While the first two phases covering 2,699 hectares are nearing completion, the expansion will require an additional 2,053 hectares.

"If competing exchanges lower transaction fees, IEX's volumes could decline further." IEX shares ended 27.9% lower at ₹132.32 on Thursday. Sankhe said that out of the total 140 billion units traded on power exchanges, the day ahead market and real time market (RTM) together account for approximately 114 billion units. 'This shift could impact IEX's revenue by 25-40% cut in FY27 assuming market coupling also gets implemented for real time market products and exchange margins cut,' he said. Live Events Before the decline on Thursday, the stock had gained 3.4% in 2025 in line with the performance of the BSE 500 index. Poddar said that given the current uncertainty, she recommends existing investors consider exiting the stock.
