DIA tickets are cheaper than other cities' museums

Axios22-05-2025
The $20 ticket price for the Detroit Institute of Arts is on the affordable side when compared to museums in other big cities.
The big picture: The Denver Art Museum quietly raised prices by more than 20%, our colleagues at Axios Denver noticed this month.
Denver's price hike puts it in line with other big-city museums charging more than $20 for admission.
Zoom in: Detroiters and other residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties get free admission to the DIA by showing their ID. The access comes in exchange for a property tax millage that's been in place since 2012 to fund the museum.
General admission for adults outside the tri-county area is $20.
Discounts are available for college students, older adults and those between 6–17. Children 5 and under get in free.
Context: The DIA's most recent price increase was last July, when general admission prices went from $18 to $20, Adam Pattison, the museum's director of visitor experience, tells Axios.

Is A.I. the Future of Web Browsing?

When was the last time you thought about your web browser? If you don't remember, no one will blame you. Web browsers have remained fundamentally unchanged for decades: You open an app, such as Chrome, Safari or Firefox, and type a website into the address bar. Many of us settled on one and fell into what I call 'browser inertia,' never bothering to see if there's anything better. Yet a web browser is important because so much of what we do on computers takes place inside one, including word processing, chatting on Slack and managing calendars and email. That's why I felt excited when I recently tried Dia, a new kind of web browser from the Browser Company of New York, a start-up. The app is powered by generative artificial intelligence, the technology driving popular chatbots like ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, to answer our questions. Dia illuminates how a web browser can do much more than load websites — and even help us learn and save time. I tested Dia for a week and found myself browsing the web in new ways. In seconds, the browser provided a written recap of a 20-minute video without my watching its entirety. While scanning a breaking news article, the browser generated a list of other relevant articles for a deeper understanding. I even wrote to the browser's built-in chatbot for help proofreading a paragraph of text. Dia is on the cusp of an emerging era of A.I.-powered internet navigators that could persuade people to try something new. This week, Perplexity, a start-up that makes a search engine, announced an A.I. web browser called Comet, and some news outlets have reported that OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, also plans to release a browser this year. OpenAI declined to comment. (The New York Times has sued OpenAI and its partner, Microsoft, claiming copyright infringement of news content related to A.I. systems. The two companies have denied the suit's claims.) Tech behemoths like Google and Apple have added lightweight A.I. features into their existing browsers, Chrome and Safari, including tools for proofreading text and automatically summarizing articles. Perplexity's Comet AI browser is available now for $200 per month

Comet, Perplexity's AI-powered web browser, is available now for people paying for the company's $200 per month Perplexity Max subscription. The company offered the browser in a beta form for select Windows users in June, but now it'll join Google Chrome and The Browser Company's Dia in incorporating AI models directly into web browsing experience. At its simplest, Comet is a streamlined browser (built on Chrome's browser tech) that uses Perplexity as its default search engine. At any point you can call up the company's AI in a sidebar to ask questions, summarize text, and critical to the company's pitch for the future of AI, take actions for you, like sending an email, looking up directions on Google Maps or purchasing a product. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. — Perplexity (@perplexity_ai) July 9, 2025 Perplexity's search results pull information from the web into AI-generated answer, just like ChatGPT or Gemini, with all of the doubts around accuracy that implies. Like its competitors, Perplexity has crawled the web for training data to feed its AI and has even been sued by publications for allegedly allowing its search engine to reproduce news articles in their entirety when prompted. The company has been open about its interest to use web browsers to collect customer data for target ads. Perplexity even wants to purchase Chrome, assuming Google is forced to spin it off as a result of its antitrust trial. Whether or not that happens, Comet affirms the tech industry's interest in making the web browser the default interface for AI. As it turns out, browser history makes for an excellent way to get a constant stream of new information about a person that AI can leverage. Perplexity says it'll send invites to people on the Comet waitlist over the summer. You can sign up for the waitlist on the company's website, or pay for Perplexity Max and use the new browser right now.

Capstone Copper Receives Mantoverde Optimized Permit

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Capstone Copper Corp. ('Capstone' or the 'Company') (TSX:CS) (ASX:CSC) is pleased to announce that it has received the DIA environmental permit ("Declaración de Impacto Ambiental") for the Mantoverde Optimized ('MV Optimized' or 'MV-O') project from the Atacama Regional Environmental Assessment Commission. MV Optimized is a capital-efficient brownfield expansion of Mantoverde's sulphide concentrator, increasing throughput from 32,000 to 45,000 ore tonnes per day ('tpd') and extending the mine life from 19 to 25 years. The issuance of this permit represents a significant milestone for the advancement of the project, as it is the only major permit required for the development and operation of MV-O. Cashel Meagher, Capstone's President & Chief Executive Officer, commented, 'MV Optimized is a capital efficient, high return and low risk expansion project that is expected to bring on an additional 20,000 tonnes per annum of copper production for approximately $150 million of expansionary capital 1. We have been eagerly awaiting this permit and are excited to begin construction, pending required Board approvals, to increase our throughput capacity by over 40% at very low capital intensity.' Mr. Meagher added, 'MV Optimized, when combined with our Santo Domingo project next door, defines the next phase of transformational growth for Capstone. We envision the Mantoverde-Santo Domingo district becoming one of the largest producing copper districts in the world with very attractive unit cash costs 1, well positioned to meet the growing requirements for copper globally. Our team is committed to pursuing the highest standards in safety and environmental management, as well as ensuring continued engagement with all stakeholders, as we progress our growth plans.' ADVANCING THE PATH TOWARDS TRANSFORMATIONAL GROWTH The DIA environmental permit application was submitted in H1 2024, in advance of the MV-O Feasibility Study announcement in October 2024. Capstone received the DIA permit on schedule and the company is pleased with the level of engagement evidenced throughout the process. During Q2 2025 approximately $20 million in orders for long lead items for MV-O were approved. The Company plans to provide further updates with respect to 2025 expansionary capital expenditures guidance and project timing upon formal project sanctioning, subject to Board approvals. MANTOVERDE OPERATION SUMMARY Mantoverde (70%-owned by Capstone Copper and 30%-owned by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation) is an open-pit copper-gold mine located in the Atacama region of Chile. Since the 1990s, Mantoverde operated as an oxide mine producing copper cathodes from its 60,000 tonnes per annum capacity SX-EW plant. In 2023, Capstone Copper completed construction of the Mantoverde Development Project that enabled the mine to process its copper sulphide reserves, in addition to existing oxide reserves. The MVDP involved the addition of a sulphide concentrator and tailings storage facility, and the expansion of the existing desalination plant and other minor infrastructure. First saleable copper concentrate at MVDP was produced in June 2024 and commercial production was achieved in September 2024. In January 2025, the plant achieved an average throughput of 33,409 tpd, exceeding its current nameplate capacity. QUALIFIED PERSONS Peter Amelunxen, Senior Vice President, Technical Services of Capstone Copper, a Qualified Person ('QP'), as defined by NI 43-101 reviewed and approved the content of this news release that is based on the 2024 technical report.
