Jubilant scenes as Lionesses keep Euros dream alive with second-half equaliser
England fans had watched on nervously as they once again found themselves behind in a crucial Euros tie.
Fans draped in England flags joined the Prince of Wales and his daughter Princess Charlotte in holding their heads in their hands as Mariona Caldentey put Spain 1-0 up in the final on Sunday.
A nervous atmosphere transformed into a jubilant one at Boxpark Croydon as Russo's header found the net, with England flags being waved and supporters hugging each other during the celebrations.
At the final whistle, fans of the Lionesses appeared confident as they started dancing and cheering as the match went into extra time.
William and Charlotte were pictured in Switzerland for the Euros final as the royal family led the nation in wishing good luck to England's Lionesses.
Shortly before kick-off, an image of the pair was posted on the Prince and Princess of Wales's X account with the caption 'let's go, Lionesses'.

As Caldentey's header found the net in the 25th minute, William and Charlotte were pictured with their heads in their hands and crowds in fan zones across England fell silent as they watched proceedings.
Before kick-off, supporters waved England flags and loudly sang the national anthem at Boxpark Croydon and star striker Michelle Agyemang's former team, Brandon Groves Community Club in Essex.
Agyemang, 19, who had one England cap before the tournament, scored crucial equalisers in the Lionesses' quarter-final and semi-final comebacks.
Ahead of the game, 11-year-old Violet Ingram, a left winger for Brandon Grove Emeralds, said: 'Seeing her (Agyemang) and the team just makes me feel like I can do anything I want to do.'
Lionesses fans stood on their feet while some children said 'come on England' after Russo's header put England on level terms.
The Prince of Wales, who is patron of the Football Association (FA), applauded the national anthem as he stood next to Charlotte in the stadium.
In a show of support ahead of the final, the Band of the Grenadier Guards performed Three Lions on the Buckingham Palace forecourt, while the royal family's official X account posted: 'Wishing the very best of luck to the @Lionesses in the Women's Euro Final this evening.'

Meanwhile, BBC Sport and ITV have secured the broadcasting rights for the Women's World Cup 2027, meaning the tournament will remain free-to-air for UK viewers.
England's path to the final has been marked by late drama.
They sealed their spot with a last-gasp extra-time win over Italy, following a penalty shootout victory against Sweden in the quarter-finals after nearly crashing out in extra time.
The Lionesses will be looking for redemption against Spain, who edged them 1-0 in the 2023 Women's World Cup final.
England boss Sarina Wiegman said the team is 'going to do everything we can to win it' and she would prefer to avoid a 'nerve-wracking' match.

Ben Stokes' absence offers a worrying glimpse into Ashes grilling... England will be hard pressed to beat Australia without talisman meets Superman, writes LAWRENCE BOOTH
No sooner had Ben Stokes been declared unfit for the series finale against India than thoughts turned, in something close to blind panic, to the Ashes. Because if the last few weeks have confirmed anything, it's that England will be hard pressed to beat Australia without him. Bazball would be declared dead even before it had faced its ultimate challenge, and the Australian media – still high-fiving each other after England's churlishness on the final evening in Manchester – would go into overdrive. It hardly bears thinking about. Yet the restructuring of the team for the fifth Test at The Oval provided an unsettling glimpse of the future: with England understandably keen to field four seamers on a green-looking surface, the absence of Stokes has created an imbalance solved only by the dropping of Liam Dawson, the team's lone frontline spinner. Dawson might have been omitted in any case after sending down 62 overs for a single wicket on his return to Test cricket at Old Trafford, an experience that included a very public one-to-one tutorial from Stokes as England walked off at tea on the last day. But what if Stokes breaks down again during the Ashes, leaving an unbearable onus on Shoaib Bashir, the 21-year-old off-spinner who would then form a crucial part of a four-man attack? Again, the scenario is unthinkable. But it's not as if it was unforeseeable. Stokes has bowled 140 overs in this series, 23 more than his previous-heaviest workload, in his debut series in Australia in 2013-14. Throw in 11 overs against Zimbabwe in May, and he has not endured a heavier home summer since 2017, when he played in seven Tests rather than five. All the while, his body has creaked and groaned, becoming a story in its own right, much as Denis Compton's knee did in the 1950s. The kneecap was eventually removed and sent for safekeeping to Lord's, where it lives in a biscuit tin – a curious memory of a more innocent time. Stokes has put himself through the wringer so vigorously, so often, that his list of ailments is a little longer: two operations on his left index finger, surgery on his left knee, hamstring trouble and now a grade-three tear of a right shoulder muscle. That's before any mention of the break he took to look after his mental health in 2021. He has put body and soul on the line for his country, and his body has rebelled once more. Clearly, he knows no other way. Even so, should he have taken things easier? During India's first innings at Lord's, England's bowling coach Tim Southee was sent down to the boundary by the pavilion to suggest Stokes remove himself from the attack after one long spell. In the second, with the game on the line, he followed a burst of nine overs with one of 10: talisman meets Superman. Then, in Manchester, he bowled eight overs in a row on the final morning, and clutched his right arm in pain after every delivery. Inspirational and selfless, certainly. But was he pushing his luck? Later, he outlined his philosophy: 'Pain is just an emotion.' It turns out pain is rather more than that. Stokes being Stokes, he has no regrets. 'When I'm out on the field, I play to win and give everything I possibly can,' he said, attending the pre-match press conference as if he, not stand-in Ollie Pope, were still in charge. 'If I feel there's a moment in a game where I need to put everything I'm feeling aside, I'll do that because it's how much this team means to me, how much playing for England means to me, how much winning means to me. Being a professional sportsman, injuries are part of this game and I can't do anything about that.' Stokes's absence has created room, at long last, for Jacob Bethell, who now has the chance to prove why England were wrong to ignore him for the first four Tests. But it also picked at the scab that periodically troubles this team. When Stokes is missing, 11 players seem inadequate to cover all bases. And if his rehab extends beyond the 10-week upper limit outlined by England, and drifts towards the first Ashes Test at Perth on November 21, that scab could become a full-blown wound – one from which his team may struggle to recover.

Eberechi Eze's two transfer clauses shed more light on Arsenal transfer issue
Arsenal have put Crystal Palace and England star Eberechi Eze at the top of their shopping list after sealing a deal for Viktor Gyokeres but there are a number of roadblocks to a deal An agreement with Eberechi Eze 's former club has caused another headache for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta continues to chase the England international. The Gunners want the Crystal Palace star as their next big-money addition of the summer transfer window. He is seen as the perfect candidate to further bolster their wide options following the lucrative arrivals of Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke. A deal could be seen as relatively straight forward, given the presence of a £67.5m release clause in his Crystal Palace deal. And while Arsenal would need to get the funds together to pay that fee - with The Guardian reporting that the Eagles want the vast majority of that amount paid up front - there is a further caveat due to a second clause in Eze's deal. Eze's former club Queens Park Rangers retain a 15 percent sell-on clause. That would entitle the London side to 15 percent of any profit that Palace make on Eze, which given they signed him for just under £20m, could land QPR just under £7.5m should a move to the Emirates go through. Eze has two years remaining on his contract with Palace. Eagles boss Oliver Glasner has already spoken out on any potential sales - and has urged the club hierarchy to remain firm over Palace's key players ahead of a European campaign. "Even though all the players are still here, we haven't made the most of the transfer window so far," Glasner admitted. "I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year. "As of now, I have 17 outfield players. I hope we don't lose any more. If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible." Meanwhile, Palace chairman Steve Parish last year claimed he was shocked that the club were able to keep Eze. He said: "I was really worried from a club point of view of losing Michael [Olise] and Ebbs in the same window and we didn't have in Ebbs the interest that I thought we would have. "I was astounded. Genuinely astounded. I mean, the guy's just an outstanding footballer, an outstanding person." Away from Eze, Palace are also fielding interest in star defender Marc Guehi, who Liverpool admire. But as it stands, the Reds are focusing on attempting to seal a deal for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
