Owner of iconic 'Breaking Bad' home takes extreme measure to get fans off her Albuquerque driveway

Daily Mail10-06-2025
The house where Walter White descended into criminal infamy has a new antihero - but one armed not with blue meth or a barrel of cash, but a garden hose.
Joanne Quintana, the real-life owner of the iconic Breaking Bad home in Albuquerque, New Mexico has finally had enough and reached her own breaking point.
Years of trespassers and photo-hungry superfans have turned her home into a zone of conflict between a private life and pop culture obsession. Now Quintana is taking matters into her own hands and striking back.
In a video posted to Instagram, Quintana can be seen sitting on a lawn chair in her front yard keeping watch.
When fans linger too long or come too close to her property, she jumps into action and blasts them with a powerful jet of water from her garden hose before barking commands at them to keep away.
'You can take a picture from that corner,' she can be heard telling one stunned visitor. 'Do not get close. And no tripods, no nothing. One picture, then you go!'
The ranch-style house on Piermont Drive was immortalized on screen as the residence of Walter White, his wife Skylar, and their son Walt Jr. in AMC's Emmy-winning masterpiece, Breaking Bad, which ran from 2008 until 2013.
For five seasons, the house stood in as the symbol of White's descent as he went from struggling teacher to ruthless drug kingpin.
And while the show ended 12 years ago, the house and other filming locations around town continue to pull in crowds of fans hoping to catch a glimpse of where the show was set.
White and his on-screen home because familiar to millions of fans around the world.
But for Quintana, it has always been her home after her parents bought the property in the 1970s.
She grew up in the house along with her siblings. She watched the show's production unfold from her front porch, and even befriended cast and crew in the early days.
It all started after Quintana's mother was approached in 2006 by a film scout with hopes to shoot the pilot episode at their home. Within months the filming had begun.
At the time, she told KOB-TV that it felt like 'the magic of Hollywood.'
The family had the opportunity to watch behind the scenes and meet the cast and crew. Quintana's mother also always had cookies for anyone working the set.
But in the years since Breaking Bad ended, Quintana has seen the house transformed into something of a pop culture pilgrimage site.
The family didn't shy away at welcoming fans at first but when the doorbell rang in the early hours of the morning their attitude changed
Tour buses come down her street while selfie stick-holding fans regularly appear at dawn. Fans have taken the 'reenactment' of famous scenes from the show to absurd new heights.
On more than one occasion, die-hard fans have hurled entire pizzas onto her garage roof, mimicking the infamous scene where Bryan Cranston's character loses his cool and throws a pie after his character's wife, Skyler, shut the door in his face.
Since then, the homeowners said it was difficult to stop fans from attempting their own pizza tosses or sneaking into the iconic backyard pool.
The house was only used for gear and prep. Any interior scenes were shot on a set at the studio lot.
The stunt became such a problem that Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan had to personally intervene on a 2022 episode of the Better Call Saul podcast.
'There is nothing original, or funny, or cool, about throwing a pizza on this lady's roof,' Gilligan said, exasperated.
'She is the sweetest lady in the world, and if you are getting on her nerves you are doing something seriously f***ing wrong.'
Initially, Quintana was happy to take pictures with fans, but when there was a knock at the door in the early hours of the morning the family's attitude quickly changed.
'Around 4:30am the doorbell rang, my mom got up and opened the door and it was a package,' Quintana said. The package was addressed to Walter While, so they called the bomb squad.
'My brothers said "That's it, we're done, fence is going up. That's too close for comfort is the front door",' she added.
She has since installed a perimeter fence to keep people back but has now taken to hosing down unwanted guests with her hose when her pleas go ignored.
'Back up, cowboy,' she told one visitor trying to inch closer for a better shot.
When another gushed that he was a fan of the show, she snapped back: 'The whole world is a fan. Doesn't impress me.'
The viral clip has split opinion online. Some viewers support Quintana, calling her 'a legend' defending her right to protect her property while others have mocked her behavior, suggesting she could instead have capitalized on the attention.
'She just sits there all day and tells people how stupid they are lol,' one commenter wrote.
'If she was smart, she'd start charging,' another quipped.
'The street and sidewalk are public property,' added a third, questioning her legal footing.
In January, the tension seemed to boil over. Quintana quietly listed the home for $4 million, a figure that reflects not just the property, but the burden that comes with it.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home was described as one of Albuquerque's 'most famous landmarks' that is recognized globally by millions of fans.
Some fans have even proposed that she rent the home out on Airbnb to cash in on its notoriety.
The home's listing has approached its sale as embracing it as a relic of the show, calling it Walter White's House and offering it as a chance to own a 'piece of television history.'
'I hope they make it what the fans want. They want a BnB, they want a museum, they want access to it. Go for it,' Quintana said.

Travis Kelce hosts exclusive 'Happy Gilmore 2' screening for Chiefs teammates in camp

Travis Kelce may have missed the ' Happy Gilmore 2' premiere in New York, but the Chiefs star still put on a screening of the movie from training camp. The sequel to Adam Sandler 's 1996 comedy classic was released to Netflix on Friday, and Kelce - one of many celebrity cameos - appears in the film as a waiter. And the tight end got to bask in his latest acting gig alongside his teammates as he hosted an early screening of the film from Missouri Western State University. Kelce greeted attendees of the casual event with 'Happy Gilmore' merch and could be seen holding a putter before the movie started. in a video posted by the Chiefs to X. It wasn't long before Kelce's teammates saw him on screen and were left delighted by his performance. At one stage in the clip, Kelce proudly repeated one of his character's lines from the film, yelling 'blueberry jubilee' as the room was left in stitches. The guy on the Chiefs and The Waiter in Happy Gilmore 2. Thanks for the early showing! Watch now on @netflix 🍿 — Kansas City Chiefs (@Chiefs) July 28, 2025 Ultimately, Kelce and his teammates seemed to enjoy the break from the grind of training camp as the team thanked him on X. 'The guy on the Chiefs and The Waiter in Happy Gilmore 2. Thanks for the early showing! Watch now on @netflix.' The screening was also attended by motivational speaker Damon West, a reformed crime boss who was invited by coach Andy Reid to speak with the team. West posed with Reid, Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes for a photo which he later posted to social media. While Kelce was unable to attend the film's premiere on Monday - with Kansas City training camp beginning the following day - it was clear that he made an impression on Sandler. Kelce shared the screen with Bad Bunny in the film and Sandler had huge praise for both while speaking from the premiere. 'They were both so confident and so funny. They're gonna go on and do whatever the hell they want,' Sandler told The Hollywood Reporter of the pair. 'But I'd love to do something with them again, because I got very friendly with them, and I love them both.' Kelce is one of several famous athletes in the film, as golfers Scottie Scheffler, Colin Morikawa, Fred Couples, Tony Finau, Bryson DeChambeau and John Daly all have cameos in the film. Golf influencer Paige Spiranac also scored a role in the film, as did rapper Kid Cudi, Margaret Qualley, Bennie Safdie and many more. For Kelce, the film represented his movie debut - though it wasn't his first time acting overall. He previously appeared in five episodes of TV series 'Grotesquerie', as well as one episode of 'Moonbase 8' in 2020. Kelce also served as an executive producer on film 'My Dead Friend Zoe.' For now, the 35-year-old is gearing up for his 13th NFL season after flirting with retirement this offseason. Kelce mulled hanging his cleats up following Kansas City's 40-22 loss to the Eagles in the Super Bowl, but ultimately decided to play at least one more year following the disappointing result. The Chiefs will begin their preseason schedule on August 9 against the Cardinals before opening their regular season in Brazil against the Chargers on September 5.

Take the near-impossible quiz that was used to determine if applicants at Vogue were fit for the job

Vogue magazine is the cream of the crop in the fashion world, and many dream of working at elite publication - but could you have hacked working at Vogue during its prime? Luckily for the fashion forward amongst us there's a way to see how you'd fare working the fashion bible. The New York Times recently released an interactive quiz to determine where your strengths - and weaknesses - lie. As per the Times, to work for famed Vogue editor Anna Wintour in Vogue's glory days, you had to know a little bit of everything. The quiz, which was created by Wintour's top editors, is based on a real exam that was given to those applying for an assistant position at the publication in the '90s. It would test the applicants elite cultural literacy and quiz them on a 'declaration of what mattered to Vogue.' The original '90s exam consisted of a whopping four pages full of 178 notable people, places, books and films - all of which had to be identified on the spot by the applicant. However, The Times' quiz - which you can take here - made it a tad easier than the original, with a multiple-choice format instead. The interactive quiz uses names and cultural references on the original exam - although the publication noted that applicants in the '90s didn't have the luxury of multiple-choice. It consists of eight different sections, with each section focusing on a different area of knowledge - and the results have been mixed. Questions in the quiz are mainly New York focused, for example, you're asked to name a 'Seventh Avenue Fashion House' (DKNY) or a 'See-and-to-be seen disco popular with the fashion crowd' (Studio 54). Eager quiz-takers flocked to the comments section to share their results - with many claiming despite the quiz deeming them a great fit, they still wouldn't have stood a chance in the illustrious Vogue offices of the '90s. '32/32 but as a somewhat short person of color who won't wear heels and will never fit into a size four dress, it could have been 1000/1000 and I still would not have gotten the job,' one user commented. '32/32 so passed the test but I would not have fit in during the '90s - overweight, pimply, leftist, who wore plaid and jeans,' wrote someone else. 'In the early 2000s I was the subject of an article in Vogue for my profession. They used my words and not my picture. I think if Wintour saw what I looked like she would have cancelled the article. '32/32. I had a career In fashion. At my first interview at 23, my soon to be boss asked, "Can you lie and be deceitful?" to which I promptly answered 'yes' and got the job,' recalled someone else, jokingly adding: 'Ah the '80s.' The original '90s exam consisted of four pages full of 178 notable people, places, books and films - all of which had to be identified on the spot by the applicant. Wintour is seen in 2019 Others found the quiz difficult, admitting they 'could not have done it without multiple choice.' The results either informed the quiz taker they didn't pass if they didn't do well, their resume would be kept on file if they scored somewhere in the middle, or, for those who score high enough, they passed. Then '90s era of Vogue has long been a fascination by fashion lovers and culture critics alike, with former British editor-in-chief Edward Enninful declaring that the '90s turned the fashion industry 'upside down.' In 2024, Hulu released a six-part series titled In Vogue: The 90s, which delved into the decade's most defining moments. In 2023, a former assistant of famous editor Wintour, Lily Stav Gildor, 31, shared what it was really like to work for her. Gildor worked as one of three assistants to the Editor-in-Chief of US Vogue from January 2014 to May 2015 and has gone viral on TikTok sharing her experiences at the magazine - and what she learned. Gildor revealed London-born Wintour taught her 'connections are the most important thing.' 'I learned, so so much from her. I learned about business I learned about fashion I learned about media. And in the last year I started my own business as a textile designer and it's still use the information today,' she gushed. Questions in the quiz are mainly New York focused, for example, you have to name a 'See-and-to-be seen disco popular with the fashion crowd' (Studio 54) In her book, Anna: The Biography, author Amy Odel interviewed several of Wintour's former assistants to get the rundown on how a typical day of Wintours' looked Anna's staff reportedly started preparing for her arrival at the officer at 7:30am. One of the interns begins to respond to Anna's emails, listens to her voicemails, writes out messages for her, sets out the daily newspapers, and get Anna's coffee and breakfast, according to Back Row. One of her former assistants, who chose to remain anonymous, compared some of their actual work moments to the movie The Devil Wears Prada. 'Whenever she wasn't in the office, was when you were able to get those things done. Then she'd come into the office. It was very much like in The Devil Wears Prada when they're all like, "She's coming!" the ex-assistant said. 'I was always scrambling to get ready. You're literally putting things away, making sure everything looks great.' The book also claimed that just like in the movie, one former assistant was advised to not go to the restroom until another was present. Wintour first became editor in chief of Vogue in 1988 and is credited with completely transforming the famed fashion magazine. She is also behind making the Met Gala what it is today - a red carpet event attended by the fashion elite, as she handpicks the celebrities and makes sure to greet them personally. In June, Wintour told staffers that she will be stepping down from her role as Vogue's editor-in-chief. She will continue to hold her position as Condé Nast's global chief content officer and global editorial director at Vogue, and the new head of editorial content will report directly to her. As chief content officer, Wintour oversees every brand globally, including Wired, Vanity Fair, GQ, AD, Condé Nast Traveler, Glamour, Bon Appetit, Tatler, World of Interiors and Allure.
