Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 18: Vantage Knowledge Academy Ltd. (BSE: VKAL), in collaboration with the Financial Literacy & Inclusion Foundation (FLIF), has launched the Certified Financial Literate (CFL) program -- a comprehensive, multi-level financial education initiative aimed at empowering schoolchildren, college students, and the general public with essential money management skills.
With only 27% of young Indian adults financially literate, the CFL program addresses a critical need by offering a structured curriculum aligned with the National Strategy for Financial Education. It integrates practical financial topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, debt management, and digital payments into everyday learning.
The program features six certification levels, delivered via interactive video modules, real-life case studies, and practical exercises. To cater to offline learners, the program is also available in print through the Wallet Wisdom book series -- one for each level -- featuring worksheets, examples, and illustrations. Those who complete all levels and assessments receive the Certified Financial Literate certificate.
For younger learners, Vantage offers the ABC of Money, a three-level program that introduces basic financial concepts like saving, needs vs. wants, and spending wisely. It includes both books and digital tools, and children also receive certification upon completion.
All course modules are hosted on Vantage Pro's Learning Management System (LMS) and accessible via the Vantage Pro app (https://www.vantagepro.app). This tech-driven platform allows users to enroll, learn at their own pace, take quizzes, and track progress in an engaging and user-friendly environment.
Vantage and FLIF, a charitable foundation promoted by Vantage's founders, have worked together to develop and refine this initiative. FLIF has granted full rights to Vantage for curriculum development and nationwide rollout. The initiative supports national financial inclusion efforts and echoes the vision of leaders like Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Dr. Manmohan Singh, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, all of whom have emphasized the importance of early and inclusive financial education.
Vantage Knowledge Academy Ltd. is pleased to announce the launch of its bi-monthly e-newspaper, The Campus, designed to reach and engage over 1,00,000 students and academicians across institutions through a digital platform.
As a BSE-listed financial education provider, Vantage has a strong track record of delivering globally recognized programs and partnering with leading academic institutions. With this initiative, it reaffirms its commitment to transforming education and supporting India's inclusive growth through innovative, scalable learning solutions.

Govt needs more data access: NSC chairman Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar

A senior Indian statistician is urging greater data-sharing with the federal government, including access to mobile payments and official records, to improve the accuracy and reliability of key economic indicators. Many institutions — including banks, payments companies, transport providers, and even government departments such as tax and railways — are reluctant to share data with the federal government due to privacy and legal concerns, said Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar, chairman of the National Statistical Commission, the top advisory body to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, in an interview Wednesday. 'But high level policy decisions need to be taken as to what can be shared,' he added. Talks are underway to share masked or aggregated data by area codes, which could significantly improve accuracy, though the discussions are still at an early stage, Karandikar said. With India's economy expanding rapidly and global investor interest growing, official figures are facing more scrutiny. Calls are mounting for more accurate economic data that captures the real picture on the ground, helping policymakers tailor policies for the nation's growing needs. Yet, data sharing between key government departments remains a challenge due to gaps in governance, infrastructure, and concerns over data protection, making it tough to find the right balance between information and privacy. In recent months, the government has taken several steps to address those concerns, including announcing plans to conduct a population census, regularly releasing surveys to improve economic datasets like inflation and gross domestic product and publishing monthly labor data. Karandikar said various developed countries have already figured out how to share relevant data internally. 'India has not done that fast enough. We need to move in that direction,' he added. The commission has also recommended that the government reduce delays in data releases. Broader adoption of digital tools and better access to existing data would help shorten timelines, Karandikar said. 'Unless we change and bring in this information technology infrastructure, we will become obsolete,' he said. Karandikar also emphasized the need for more short-term surveys instead of year-long exercises that take too long to process. 'The old methodology of data collection, transmitting, compiling and processing has to change,' he said, adding that the government has already begun implementing some of these changes.

For most Indian farmers, costs grow faster than income

For most Indian farmers, costs grow faster than income Indian farmers are hit by the double whammy of stagnant income and declining profit margins, according to an analysis of data compiled by the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). For nearly all major crops, the increase in agricultural income over the last decade has not kept pace with the rural inflation rate. The data also shows that the profit margins for most crops have declined. The analysis of ten major crops for both kharif and rabi seasons shows that, except for maize, groundnut and rapeseed/mustard, the increase in farm income has been less than the rural inflation rate during the same period. Inflation rate exceeded income growth In 2013-14, the average input cost was Rs 25,179 per hectare for paddy while the value of family labour was assessed at Rs 8,452 per hectare. The value of the crop was Rs 53,242 per hectare, which meant a profit of Rs 19,611 per hectare. In 2023-24, this profit increased to Rs 30,216 per hectare. Although this was a 54% jump, consumer prices in rural areas increased by 65% between 2013-14 and 2023-24. The crop also saw a decline in profit margins. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo I n 2013-14, the profit margin was 58% of the input and labour costs, which has now dropped to 49.3% of the cost. The input cost and family labour is taken as the total expense to calculate the profit margin since this spending is also part of the formula for Minimum Support Price (MSP). Wheat, unlike paddy, is primarily a rabi (winter) crop, but a comparison of decadal growth in income and margins shows a similar pattern. The surplus over input cost and family labour was Rs 29,442 per hectare in 2012-13 and increased by 53% to Rs 45,179 in 2022-23. That's lower than the 71% increase in rural consumer prices between 2012-13 and 2022-23. The profit margin too decreased from 123% in 2012-13 to 103% in 2022-23. Sugarcane, another major crop, also saw a stagnation in net income. From Rs 96,451 per hectare in 2012-13, the profits increased to 1,21,668 in 2022-23. This 26% increase is lower than the increase in consumer price inflation. In 2012-13, the profit margin was 151%, which declined to 102% in 2022-23. Of the ten major crops (based on highest output) for which the comparison is done, only three have shown an increase in income higher than the inflation rate. These are maize (162%), rapeseed & mustard (85.7%) and groundnut (71.4%). For the rest, the increase was lower than the inflation rate. It was between 50% and 60% for gram, between 20% and 30% for soyabean and cotton, and less than 20% for arhar (tur). Apart from stagnant incomes, the profit margins have declined for all of these crops except maize. These per-hectare profits are roughly equal to the seasonal incomes for a vast majority of Indian farmers. The average land holding size in the Agriculture Census of 2015-16 was just under 1.1 hectares, but most farmers (68.5%) are marginal farmers, which means they own less than 1 hectare of land (averaging at 0.38 hectare). This means that seasonal income for them will be even lower. Experts have pointed out that the stagnation as well as lower agricultural income is due to the extent of mismatch between the share of agriculture in GDP and in employment. Despite contributing only 16% of GDP, agriculture employs more than 40% of India's workforce. In advanced economies like the US, its share in GDP and employment is 0.9% and 2%, respectively. Even in a developing economy like China, agriculture's contribution to GDP is 6.8% while it employs 22% of the workforce.

New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) Forex trading platform OctaFX India on Friday settled with markets regulator Sebi a case related to alleged violation of trading norms on payment of Rs 32 lakh towards settlement amount. Besides, OctaFX India Pvt Ltd (now known as Taunga Pvt Ltd) will not be eligible to apply for any registration with Sebi for five years and will be debarred from buying/ trading in the securities market (directly or indirectly) for a period of 1 year, according to Sebi order. Also, the applicant (Taunga Pvt Ltd) will surrender stock broker registration. The order came after the applicant proposed to settle the pending proceeding without 'admitting or denying the findings of fact and conclusions of law", and filed a settlement application in August last year. 'It is hereby ordered that the instant proceedings initiated against the applicant vide post enquiry show cause notice dated May 9, 2024 are disposed of," Sebi said in the settlement order. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) advised BSE to examine the matter of OctaFX, which was allegedly carrying out illegal activities by providing an unregulated online trading platform for trading in forex derivatives. Pursuant to that, BSE submitted its report to the regulator on March 14, 2022. The markets watchdog conducted the examination and it was observed that OctaFX India Pvt Ltd, a Sebi-registered stock broker, and its directors were associated with unauthorised forex trading platform Trading App. Sebi also observed that OctaFX suppressed and denied its association with unauthorised forex trading platform and thereby, indirectly promoted the trading platform and that the company had failed to inform either Sebi or BSE that Enforcement Directorate had conducted searches at several of its premises. In July, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had attached assets of OctaFX worth more than Rs 131 crore under the anti-money laundering law in a case against a 'fraud" forex-trading platform that has allegedly cheated numerous investors. 'These assets belong to Pavel Prozorov, the mastermind behind OctaFX," the federal probe agency said. The platform is suspected to have generated 'proceeds of crime" amounting to Rs 800 crore from its operations in India in just nine months.
