Sabah's unity shines through its people, says Hajiji
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said unity is sweeter and more meaningful when everyone stands together in harmony, which the Kaamatan Festival deeply represents.
"I urge all citizens to stand with the government as partners in strengthening unity and maintaining political stability for the well-being of the people and the smooth development of our beloved state," he said in his Kaamatan 2025 message on Thursday (May 29).
He said Kaamatan - celebrated annually in May - goes beyond cultural tradition.
While it remains a time to give thanks for a bountiful harvest and to strengthen ties among Sabah's multiracial and multi-religious communities, it also reflects harmony and the spirit of goodwill.
"This festival mirrors the ideals of Malaysia Madani, which emphasises human values, mutual respect, and inclusivity," he added.
This year's theme, Kaamatan Montok Toinsanan (Kaamatan For All), carries a deeply meaningful and inclusive message.
"It clearly expresses that Kaamatan does not belong to just one community but is a celebration for all Sabahans, regardless of race, religion, or background."
"With that, I wish Kotobian Tadau Tagayo do Kaamatan to everyone marking this special occasion," he said.

Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor said the Sabah law reform advisory council was established to strengthen governance and uphold the rule of law in Sabah, while modernising the state's legal framework. Hajiji said the council would review existing state laws while recommending reforms, to better serve the needs of Sabahans. 'The state government looks forward to the valuable insights and recommendations from the council, which are expected to form the foundation for meaningful and enduring legal reform in Sabah,' he said in a statement. The other members of the council are former Sabah Law Society president Roger Chin and senior lawyers Daniel Tan, David Fung, John Sikayun, and Shakinur Ain Karama. Hajiji said the council was independent and non-partisan, and would ensure that proposed reforms are rooted in Sabah's socio-cultural realities, values, and customs.

Govt restructures egg subsidy to boost welfare initiatives
by AKMAR ANNUAR THE government will restructure its egg subsidy mechanism starting Aug 1, replacing the blanket subsidy with a more targeted approach that prioritises sustainability and long-term public welfare. The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) said the new framework is part of the phased subsidy rationalisation agenda under the Malaysia Madani initiative. To mitigate price pressures, the egg industry has agreed to introduce a special-grade egg category at more affordable prices. Competitive rates will also be made available through nationwide Agro Madani and Jualan Rahmah sales, including at outlets run by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) and the Farmers' Organisation Authority (LPP). KPKM said the savings generated from the revised subsidy scheme will be redirected to other welfare programmes aligned with Madani values. Between February 2022 and December 2024, the government spent nearly RM2.5 billion to subsidise eggs, primarily to stabilise supply and support the public during the Covid-19 pandemic and global supply disruptions. With current market conditions more stable, the ministry said it is now appropriate to implement a more focused model. 'The restructuring reflects our confidence in the industry's ability to maintain stable and sufficient egg production,' it said in a statement. To prevent profiteering, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will continue monitoring compliance under the Price Control and Anti-profiteering Act 2011. 'Strict enforcement is necessary to ensure retail prices remain fair and reasonable for consumers,' the ministry added. The government said the decision to restructure the subsidy mechanism reflects its ongoing commitment to safeguarding public wellbeing. It also stated that the Madani administration remains attentive to the needs of the people and will continue to prioritise policies that deliver inclusive benefits across all segments of society.

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has formed the Sabah Law Reform Advisory Council (SLRAC) to support legal reform, strengthen governance and promote the rule of law in Sabah. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the initiative aims to modernise the legal framework to better reflect the needs of the people. He expressed hope that the Council's recommendations would guide lasting and meaningful legal improvements in the state. The SLRAC is chaired by former Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri David Wong Dak Wah, and includes legal experts Datuk Daniel Tan Jwee Peng, David Fung Yin Kee, Datuk John Sikayun, Datuk Roger Chin Ken Fong, and Shakinur Ain Karama, with Janice Junie Lim as Secretary. As an independent, non-partisan body, the Council will review existing State laws and propose reforms grounded in Sabah's distinct cultural and social context.
