Estrada hits 2-run homer, drives in 4 in Rockies' 7-6 victory over Astros
DENVER (AP) — Thairo Estrada hit a two-run homer in the first inning and drove in four runs to help the Colorado Rockies beat the Houston Astros 7-6 on Thursday.
Colorado improved to 9-34 at home, still the worst home start in the modern era. The Rockies have lost all 14 series at Coors Field.
Juan Mejia (1-0) got the win in relief of Kyle Freeland, who threw six solid innings, and Seth Halvorsen picked up his seventh save. Halvorsen gave up a leadoff triple to Jake Meyers and a pair of two-out singles before getting Victor Caratini on a flyout to right to end it.
Houston tied it at 5 in seventh on Cam Smith's two-run triple, and Colorado got it right back in the bottom of inning. After Tyler Freeman was thrown out at home trying to score from first on Mickey Moniak's double, Jordan Beck singled to make it 6-5, stole second and scored on Estrada's two-out single off reliever Jordan Weems (0-1).
Houston scored twice in the first inning, and Estrada tied with his homer it in the bottom of the inning. Isaac Paredes had an RBI double for Houston in the second, and Estrada tied it in the third with an RBU groundout. Ryan Ritter's two-run single in the fourth gave Colorado the lead.

With two runners on and two outs in the eighth for the Astros, Halvorsen got Paredes to pop out to catcher Aaron Nola to preserve the two-run lead. Key stats

Astros RHP Lance McCullers Jr. (1-3, 6.61 ERA) will open a three-game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night. Colorado continues its homestand with RHP Antonio Senzatela (3-11, 6.69) on the mound against the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.

Paredes was injured running to first base on a single to left field during Saturday night's 7-6, 11-inning loss to the Seattle Mariners. Paredes left the game and was replaced by Zack Short. The 26-year-old is hitting .259 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs this season. Additionally, catcher César Salazar was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land. In corresponding moves, infielders Shay Whitcomb and Jon Singleton were recalled from Sugar Land. To make room for Singleton on the Astros' 40-man roster, infielder Brendan Rodgers was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Rodgers sustained a concussion and a broken nose when he collided with a teammate during a minor league rehab assignment, the team said Saturday. The 28-year-old Rodgers was playing for Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday in the first game of his rehab assignment when the collision occurred in the third inning. Astros announce unfortunate Isaac Paredes injury news
The Houston Astros are once again dealing with an injury to one of their best players this season. In what's been an ongoing issue, the Astros are down another starter, this time, coming after Isaac Paredes hurt his hamstring in the second game coming out of the All-Star break. The next day, the Astros announced that Paredes was going on the ten-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain. They also optioned Cesar Salazar to Triple-A Sugar Land, and recalled Shay Whitcomb and selected Jon Singleton to take their places on the active roster. With Singleton being selected to the 40-man roster, infielder Brendan Rodgers was moved to the 60-day injured list after he suffered a scary infield collision with a teammate. Houston, after losing Paredes, is now down three of their best offensive sluggers. Paredes, Jeremy Pena, and Yordan Alvarez are all out and on the injured list. Jacob Melton and Jake Meyers are also out, culminating in a large contingent of valuable pieces sitting out for extended amounts of time this season. Paredes, this season, before getting hurt, was one of the team's best hitters. He was an All-Star replacement and had a .252 batting average with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs before landing on the injured list. But, for the time being, his season is cut short, as he looks to recover from his hamstring injury for the later stages of the MLB season. All of the injuries the Astros are dealing with further make things challenging. They already had needs at the deadline, but these injuries are putting the team at risk. A lack of depth on the roster has forced the Astros to call up prospects and journeymen this season. This latest injury is another setback in the Astros' season. They've lost seven of their last eight games and have come crashing back down to Earth after a strong June and start to July. Paredes is out for at least the next ten games, but likely for more.
