Under the campaign, the administration is involving prominent personalities including film actors, sportspersons, and community leaders to draw public support.
As part of the initiative, a mega walkathon and pledge-taking ceremony will be held on Friday, starting at 8 a.m. from Sri Chamarajeshwara Temple.
The event will feature World Cup kho-kho player Chaitra, actor Ganesh Rao from Hondarabalu village, eight State-level athletes, Venkatesh, a member of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, as well as students, senior government officials, volunteers, and representatives from various NGOs.
The walkathon route will pass through Pachappa Circle, Santhemarahalli Circle, and the KSRTC Bus Stand, concluding at the Tourist Bungalow.
All 130 Gram Panchayats in the district have been instructed to actively participate in the drive to end child marriage.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli's India return likely to be delayed as BCCI told not to go ahead with Bangladesh tour: Report

WhaThe return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in India colours might get delayed as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was reportedly instructed by the government to not go ahead with their white-ball tour of Bangladesh next month amidst rising diplomatic tensions between the two countries. India were slated to play three ODIs and three T20Is against Bangladesh, starting from August 17. If India do not travel to Bangladesh, it could be a big blow to the Men in Blue in the lead up to the 2026 T20 World Cup. India have not played a single T20I since the England series at home in January-February. Both Virat and Rohit have already retired from Tests and T20Is. A postponement of the India vs Bangladesh series further extends Rohit-Virat's return to the cricket field. However, there has been no official intimation from the BCCI regarding the Bangladesh tour. According to an India Today report, the Indian government's decision to not allow BCCI comes from the current political condition in Bangladesh. "The political situation in Bangladesh is not stable, and in light of the diplomatic standoff, the Indian government has advised the BCCI not to go ahead with this tour," the source said. Both the countries are facing trade-related tensions at the moment after the Indian government imposed a major import route restrictions on goods, which includes ready-made garments and processed food items from Bangladesh. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has also issued a notification that no ready-made garment products can enter India via northeast-based integrated check posts (ICPs). It came after Bangladesh imposed a similar restriction in April. According to the Future Tours Programme (FTP), India are set to travel to Australia in October-November for three ODIs and five T20Is. Post that, India will host South Africa in November-December for two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is. If the Bangladesh tour is called off, Rohit and Virat will return in India colours in Australia.

Asia Cup in Rajgir from August 27: Pak hockey team won't be stopped from competing in India: Ministry

Pakistan's hockey teams will not be stopped from competing in next month's Asia Cup and the junior World Cup in India as any move to block the arch-foes would be a violation of the Olympic Charter, a sports ministry source said on Thursday. While the Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in Rajgir, Bihar from August 27 to September 7, the junior World Cup will be organised in Chennai and Madurai from November 28 to December 10. "We are not against any team competing in India in a multi-national competition. If we try to stop Pakistan it would be seen as a violation of the Olympic Charter. But bilateral is different and there will be no relaxation on that front," the source said. The Charter is akin to the constitution of the Olympic movement and stresses on sport as a tool for promoting international peace and cooperation. As a result, any attempt to block a rival country from a multi-national event adversely impacts the host nation's prospects of getting future hosting rights. When asked whether this means India will be allowed to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup of cricket in September, the source said, "The BCCI is yet to reach out to the ministry on this. We will address this query when they approach us." India and Pakistan have been avoiding bilateral sporting engagements for close to two decades but even multi-lateral face-offs were in doubt after the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 tourists were gunned down in April. In May, India retaliated with Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan leading to a tense military showdown that de-escalated on Pakistan's request for a ceasefire. "International sports demands that we cannot back out from competing in multi-national competitions. Take for instance, Russia and Ukraine, they are at war but they show up at multi-national events and compete as well," he added. Hockey India (HI) welcomed the decision to allow Pakistan hockey teams to play in Asia Cup and junior World Cup in India.

Malala Yousafzai calls out FIFA and ICC for failing brave Afghan female athletes in exile(Image Source: Getty Images) Life for women changed drastically once the Taliban reclaimed control in Afghanistan in 2021. Schools were shut for girls, gyms were shut, and women athletes were not allowed to play and train anymore. Now, Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai is asking big sports groups to help Afghan women who had to leave their country. She says letting them play again is not just about sport, it's a way to fight back against the Taliban's rules. Groups like FIFA and ICC must now decide how to support these brave women. Why does Malala Yousafzai believe empowering Afghan female athletes is so important In a CNN Sports interview on July 1, 2025, Malala Yousafzai said that giving Afghan female athletes better chances to compete shows real 'bravery and courage.' She wants international groups to act now. She said: 'They can definitely find opportunities for these players to play, and this is a form of resistance against the Taliban'. The Taliban forbid women from sports, school, and public places. Female athletes have fled to places such as Australia but they are in exile. When Malala Yousafzai met the Afghan women's soccer team at the 2023 Women's World Cup, she felt their plight was especially tragic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo She said: 'It was truly heartbreaking … while stadiums were full, there was a team from Afghanistan who cannot play in their country'. Malala Yousafzai points to FIFA ICC and international groups to lead change Malala Yousafzai sees promises already made. In 2025, FIFA approved a Strategy for Action for Afghan women's football. They said a refugee Afghan women's team will begin 'as soon as possible.' Malala Yousafzai calls this a 'significant step forward' but she says it must go further. She also says the ICC set up a task force in April 2025 to support displaced female cricketers and offered help via a special fund. But many feel sports bodies are slow to act. Afghan player Mursal Sadat said the delay has already cost them two World Cup chances. Malala Yousafzai believes that if FIFA, ICC, and others are bold, they can give these women a platform. She said: 'Playing and practicing every right for Afghan women is a form of resistance … against the Taliban'.
