Bale offers RM230mil to Vincent Tan for Cardiff City

KUALA LUMPUR: A consortium led by former Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has submitted a £40 million (RM230 million) bid to buy Welsh club Cardiff City.
The former Wales captain, who has long shown interest in football ownership, was previously linked to a takeover of Plymouth Argyle but that deal never materialised.
Cardiff's owner, Tan Sri Vincent Tan, has already expressed his willingness to sell and is said to be open to negotiations.
According to The Times, a formal bid has been submitted, with backing from American investors.
Bale, a five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid and capped 111 times for Wales, is now preparing to step into club ownership.
The latest offer is, however, expected to be rejected — although talks are still ongoing and a deal could yet be struck.
"We are interested in getting Cardiff," Bale told the Times last month.
"It's my home club, it's where I grew up and my uncle (Chris Pike) used to play for them. To be involved with an ownership group would be a dream come true.
"It's a club close to my heart. I'd love to help grow Cardiff and take the club to the Premier League, where it belong.
"I know how amazing the Welsh and Cardiff fans are. It would be amazing to try and do something together.
"We are trying to engage with Cardiff, and more news will come out in the future. Hopefully, we can get something done."
A previous offer was also turned down, and while this latest £40m bid is likely to face the same fate, both parties remain open to reaching an agreement. – AGENCIES

Too soon to say if Mbappe will start against Dortmund

IT is too soon to say whether Kylian Mbappe will start in Real Madrid's Club World Cup quarter-final match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, coach Xabi Alonso said, as the French forward continues his recovery from gastroenteritis. Mbappe made his tournament debut on Tuesday as Real Madrid edged Juventus 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals after missing all of the group stage. 'He's getting better. He's been improving over the last three days,' Alonso told reporters at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Friday. 'Tomorrow morning we will be deciding if he will be part of the initial 11.' Mbappe came off the bench as a substitute in the second half of the Spanish side's 1-0 win over Juventus in Miami on Tuesday, earning wild applause in a scene that underscored his global appeal at the U.S.-hosted tournament. Mbappe was briefly hospitalised early in the tournament, isolated from his teammates as he recovered. Alonso's team have leaned on Gonzalo Garcia to deputise in his absence, as the 21-year-old academy graduate has recorded three goals - including Tuesday's winner - and an assist in a breakout performance at the competition. 'I think (Garcia and Mbappe) could complement each other and if it's something that is required, it's not something I'm going to turn a blind eye to,' said Alonso. They face a Dortmund team in solid form on Saturday, after the German side held off a stirring second-half fightback from Monterrey 2-1 this week to book their spot in the final eight. 'Dortmund is a very good team. As soon as (coach Niko Kovac) was at the helm, they were growing and developing and on the rise,' said Alonso. 'We are facing a tough opponent... It's gonna be tight tomorrow.'

Made in US no more? Trump phone website scrubs language

The Trump company initially said the new phone would launch in September. The website no longer includes a firm timeline, according to The Verge. — Bloomberg The Trump Organization is no longer claiming that its new smartphone will be made in the US. When the company announced the phone in June, it said the device would be 'proudly designed and built in the United States.' Experts cast doubt on that claim and said it was likely the phone would be manufactured by a Chinese company. The Trump Organization has now removed all language indicating the phone would be made in the US from the Trump Mobile website, according to The Verge, a tech news site. The wording has been replaced with pro-American slogans, such as 'Premium Performance. Proudly American.' and 'designed with American values in mind.' The site also says there are 'American hands behind every device,' The Verge said. The Trump Organization didn't respond to the site's request for comment. The company is owned by President Donald Trump, according to CNBC. President Trump isn't involved in the Trump company's day-to-day operations, the firm has said, according to CNN. The business is run by his eldest sons. The new phone will be gold colored, cost US$499 (RM 2,106) and will be known as the T1. Experts told multiple news outlets when the phone was announced that the US simply doesn't have smartphone manufacturing capabilities right now. And even if the phone could be produced in the US, components would still come from overseas. Either way, the new Trump-branded phone would be affected by President Trump's tariffs, according to Fortune . The Trump company initially said the new phone would launch in September. The website no longer includes a firm timeline, according to The Verge. The site now says only that the device will be available 'later this year.' – News Service
