ALBAWABA - A group called "Soldiers of God" has attacked the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth city.
The group has broken down the outer gate, caused chaos in the churchyard, and had a verbal fight with the church's priest, according to the Orthodox Community Council's statement on Sunday.
The council said, "A group of people calling themselves 'Soldiers of God' attacked the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth, breaking the outer gate, causing chaos in the courtyard, and ringing the Church bell, which constitutes a desecration of a holy and historical site. The leadership of the community council confronted them, and they were expelled from the site in the presence of police."
It further mentioned that the attack took place on Sunday evening, when the church was closed, they broke the lock on the outer gate, stormed into the courtyard, and rang the church bell, claiming that they were 'protesting' the terrorist attack that took place at St. Elias Church in Damascus, Syria last week.
Immediately, the head of the Orthodox Community Council, attorney Bassem Asfour, along with priest Father Semaan Bajali, a number of council members, the representative body, and activists, arrived at the scene. They confronted the attackers and called the police, leading to their evacuation from the holy site. The Community Council then filed a police complaint against the attackers. Syria's church attack:
