LSU men's basketball picked up its third commitment of the week. This time, it comes from one of the best international talents.
Israeli guard Ron Zipper will join the Tigers for the upcoming season, per an announcement on social media. The 22-year old has four years of eligibility after playing for one of the best professional leagues in Europe.
In Israel's first division, Zipper averaged 11 points per game and earned recognition as a sharp shooter, shooting 38% from three. He was the MVP of the 2021 FIBA U18 EuroBasket and a regular member of Israel's national teams. Now, the six-foot-four guard will try his hand at Power Four basketball.
LSU head coach Matt McMahon put in work over the last week to add to his team. Memphis' PJ Carter and UC Davis' Pablo Yamba committed to the program in the last week, adding to an active early period during the spring transfer portal window. With the addition of Zipper, the Tigers will certainly have a competition for time in the back court as he is the fifth new perimeter player.

Butch Thompson signs new deal with Auburn baseball

Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball reports that Auburn will keep Butch Thompson around for a few more seasons. Auburn baseball is one of the program's best stretches in history, and is aiming to keep momentum going by giving its head man a contract extension. Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball reported Wednesday that Auburn has signed head baseball coach Butch Thompson to a contract extension this week that will keep him on the Plains until at least 2031. According to Rogers, Thompson has signed a six-year extension with Auburn that includes a $1.5 million base salary with incentives that roll into 2033. As part of this extension, Auburn assistant coaches will also see an increase to their salaries. Auburn hired Thompson ahead of the 2016 season, and has won 324 games while leading the Tigers to six postgame appearances and two trips to the College World Series. In that stretch, Auburn won 40 games three times and won at least 35 games two additional times. Last season, Auburn won 41 games and hosted its first-ever Super Regional at Plainsman Park. In addition to Auburn's success on the field, the program has seen many enhancements to Plainsman Park. The home venue for Tigers baseball now has a capacity of over 7,000 and experienced several attendance records broken. Multiple club levels have been added to Plainsman Park, as well as seats to the "War Eagle Wall" and a new student seating area in right field. Auburn baseball recently set a program record for the most picks taken in the first round of the MLB draft this year, as five Tigers, including first round pick Ike Irish, heard their name called within the first 290 picks. Auburn baseball is in great hands under Butch Thompson, and the program is expected to continue trending upward under his watch. The LSU football community reacts to retirement of former star Tyrann Mathieu

Former LSU football defensive back Tyrann Mathieu announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday after a 12-year career. The former Saints star was drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft with the No. 69 overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals. He compiled two standout seasons in Baton Rouge ahead of his professional career. Mathieu donned the purple and gold in 2010 and 2011, leaving a lasting legacy as one of the program's best defenders and special teamers. He finished fifth in 2011 Heisman Trophy voting and was a consensus All-American, finishing the year with four touchdowns (two via punt return, two via fumble return), 7.5 tackles for loss and six forced fumbles. Once in the NFL, Mathieu spent time with four different teams. He won a Super Bowl with Kansas City in 2019 and stayed with the team through 2021. The New Orleans native signed with his hometown team ahead of the 2022 season, making 228 tackles and 10 interceptions through three seasons. He finishes his professional career with four All-Pro selections. Louisiana football fans will remember Mathieu fondly for his contributions to the game at every stage of his career. How did social media react to Mathieu's retirement? LSU fans recall Mathieu being part of an iconic group of defensive backs during his time in Baton Rouge and the flashes of greatness he showed every week. Mathieu was a part of a Chiefs defense under coordinator Steve Spagnuolo that set the standard for the franchise's rise to dominance over the last several years, showcasing his aggressive mindset in blitz packages and downfield coverage.
