Due to what the squad had characterized as a "personal matter," Hicks, 33, had missed the first two days of the Browns' training camp in Berea, Ohio.
Fans weren't sure of his status until the announcement came.
Football showed me who I am outside the game, Hicks stated in his message, which has given me more than I could have ever imagined, but most importantly. He expressed thanks to the sport for the life lessons and declared he was pleased with the person he had evolved as a result of it.
Expected to head the defense, especially with teammate Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah out for the 2025 season because of a neck injury, Hicks was scheduled to play his second season in Cleveland.

Hicks' retirement now leaves the Browns without their top two inside linebackers from last season. He saw Jim Schwartz, the team's defensive coordinator who had also counseled him in Philadelphia, in Cleveland. Jordan Hicks began 131 of the 134 games he played over ten seasons.
Nine hundred fifty-two tackles, 16. 5 sacks, and 13 interceptions marked the close of his career.

Chiefs' Chris Jones opens up about love and longing after split from longtime girlfriend stirs headlines
Chris Jones breaks silence on love life post-breakup (Getty Images) Kansas City Chiefs defensive star Chris Jones , known for his explosive presence on the field, is revealing a far more vulnerable side off it. Just months after a public and painful breakup with his longtime girlfriend Sheawna Weathersby, Jones appears to be yearning for something deeper than Super Bowl rings—companionship and love. During a lighthearted training camp interview, the 31-year-old defensive tackle shared a surprisingly heartfelt goal from his bucket list: 'I just wanna be married, I just wanna be loved.' Chris Jones shares hopes for marriage and future with someone new Jones' tender revelation was posted on the Chiefs' official TikTok account, drawing attention not just for its sincerity but also for its timing. The video surfaced four months after Weathersby's Instagram post accused Jones of infidelity and confirmed their nine-year relationship had ended 'months ago.' — BSO (@BSO) 'I'm choosing to focus on the positive as I close this chapter on a 9-year relationship,' she wrote. 'Ultimately Chris' infidelity with the woman he's recently been pictured with led to my decision to end our relationship months ago.' The alleged incident referenced was a now-deleted Instagram photo of Jones with a woman licking his face, which further fueled the breakup narrative. Weathersby's post also described unsettling harassment from the other woman, claiming, 'This is especially troubling given her history of harassment, stalking and disrespect towards me… This behavior has forced me to change my number and has forced Chris to ask her multiple times to please leave me alone and respect our coparenting dynamic.' Chris Jones- Life beyond the breakup Despite the personal upheaval, Jones continues to dominate on the field. Last season, he recorded 75 pressures, 29 quarterback hits, and 10.5 sacks—proving why he's a cornerstone of the Chiefs' defense. Jones and Weathersby, who had been together since at least 2015, share two young children, 6-year-old Christopher and 2-year-old Carson. Weathersby was a familiar presence at games and developed close bonds with other Chiefs WAGs, including Taylor Swift , who is currently dating tight end Travis Kelce . Now, with fame, fortune, and football already under his belt, Jones seems to be seeking something far more elusive—someone to stand beside him when the crowd fades and the lights go dim. Nick Bosa's appointment by Donald Trump to Presidential Sports Council reignites political firestorm in NFL
San Francisco 49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa has officially been appointed to the revitalized President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition—an initiative led by President Donald Trump . The council, reinstated through a recent Executive Order, aims to combat childhood chronic disease and promote physical, mental, and civic excellence among American youth. Nick Bosa joins Donald Trump 's Presidential Sports Council amid fitness revival The program will reintroduce the once-prominent Presidential Fitness Test, a school-based initiative that encourages children to strive for their best. It also includes plans for a Presidential Fitness Award and broader efforts to increase access to fitness and healthy living. The White House stated the council will also focus on 'restoring tradition to college athletics,' notably taking a stance on the transfer portal and opposing men participating in women's sports—two controversial talking points in today's sports discourse. A familiar alliance between Nick Bosa and Donald Trump Bosa's relationship with Donald Trump isn't new. The defensive lineman drew headlines back in 2019 when he wore a 'Make America Great Again' hat during a post-game interview, and Trump personally congratulated him after he was selected No. 2 overall by the 49ers in that year's NFL Draft. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo 'I think it's an important time,' Bosa told reporters when asked about his role on the council, though he didn't elaborate further. His involvement, however, has sparked debate across social media and among NFL fans, many of whom are divided over politics in sports. Other high-profile figures joining Bosa on the council include Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and golfer Bryson DeChambeau, who serves as council chair. A broader message wrapped in political undertones Trump's push to bring back the fitness council also carries strong messaging about returning to 'traditional values' in sports. The inclusion of language surrounding gender categories and the transfer portal suggests the initiative is more than just about health—it's a cultural statement. With names like Nick Bosa now attached, the intersection of politics and sports is once again front and center in America's most-watched league. Deion Sanders kept his cancer battle quiet - Brett Favre calls him a true fighter after finding out: "He's a grinder"
Deion Sanders' cancer battle leaves Brett Favre shocked (Getty Images and X/Brett Favre) In a year that has tested the resolve of legendary NFL figure Deion Sanders, the Hall of Famer has emerged victorious in a deeply personal battle. Known as 'Coach Prime,' Sanders recently underwent surgery to remove his bladder after being diagnosed with cancer. While the news stunned fans and peers alike, it was Brett Favre's heartfelt response that highlighted just how much Sanders' journey has resonated within the NFL community. Brett Favre was 'caught off guard' but never doubted Deion Sanders' willpower When TMZ Sports reached out to NFL icon Brett Favre, the former quarterback didn't hold back his emotions. 'Thank God they found it, and it was a successful surgery. But I was completely caught off guard with the news, but I'm thankful that the prognosis looks good,' Favre said. Despite his surprise, he wasn't at all shocked by Sanders' unyielding spirit in facing adversity. 'He played every play in practice as if it were the Super Bowl-winning play,' he recalled. The two shared a locker room briefly with the Atlanta Falcons back in 1991, yet their bond clearly transcended time. "I'm not surprised [he isn't taking time off]. He's a grinder. When I was with Atlanta my first year, Deion had already solidified his place in NFL lore already. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Here's The Average Price of Gutter Replacement For 2500 Sq Ft House LeafFilter Gutter Protection Get Rates Undo But one thing about Deion, he was never a tackler, and he would admit that. But he worked his butt off… He played every play in practice as if it were the Super Bowl-winning play. So I'm not surprised he's digging his heels in and is going to keep coaching," Favre said.. He even offered heartfelt encouragement, saying, '"Not that he needs my advice, but just keep doing what you're doing. And as long as you enjoy it, whatever that may be, in his case it's coaching… keep doing it," Favre said. "You're impacting so many people and so many people are pulling for you, just keep it rolling." Favre, who is battling Parkinson's himself, understands the emotional weight of health struggles. His admiration for Sanders was evident, not only as a former teammate but as someone who sees Sanders as a resilient symbol of inspiration. Coach Prime remains undeterred and focused on the 2025 season Following his successful surgery, Sanders made it clear he has no plans to step away from the sidelines. Currently leading the Colorado Buffaloes, the 2024 season marked a turning point as the team went 9-4 and landed an Alamo Bowl appearance. With sights now set on the 2025 opener against Georgia Tech on August 29, Coach Prime affirmed his commitment: 'I was always going to coach. It was never in my spirit, in my heart, that God wouldn't allow me to coach again. ' He also addressed the speculation about his retirement with a touch of humor and confidence: 'I know you're probably thinking something's going to happen today that ain't gonna happen… I don't know where you get the news from.' Sanders also used his public platform to urge others, especially men, to prioritize their health. 'Men, everybody, get checked out… please get yourself checked,' he said. His cancer was only discovered during unrelated testing, reinforcing the need for routine care and early detection.
