Target's having a huge back-to-school sale right now with up to 30% off supplies, apparel and more

NBC News6 days ago
While summer may feel like it just got going, back-to-school is just around the corner. Which means, it's time to start thinking about back-to-school — like backpacks, lunch boxes, new clothes and more. But all the stuff needed for a new year can add up. Thankfully, there are a number of back-to-school sales that can help with the cost. One sale to pay attention to is Target's Back-to-School-idays sale.
During the event, the retailer is offering up to 30% off some of the most-needed supplies — plus, they're offering a number of other promotions and deals. Keep reading to learn more about the sale and see some of the best deals being offered.
Target's Back-to-School-idays sale runs from July 27 through August 2 and is offering up to 30% off key school supplies. Some of the top sales include: 25% off select kids' apparel
30% off select kids' shoes
30% off select backpacks
20% off select lunch items
20% off Hanes socks and underwear
In addition to the above deals, Target Circle members can get additional perks. Target Circle is the retailer's free loyalty program that you can sign up on the website. During the Back-to-school-idays sale, Target Circle members who spend $50 on home care items (like cleaning wipes) will get a $15 Target gift card.
During the sale, there will also be a number of in-store events and activations. For example, Target will be offering exclusive giveaways — like monogrammed bath wraps and backpack patches. Many stores will also be offering personalization opportunities for shoppers, including the ability to monogram backpacks and lunch boxes.
Below, we've rounded up some of the best deals being offered during Target's Back-to-School-idays sale. We focused on must-have essentials for school that have high ratings.
Ideal for older kids, this backpack has an internal laptop sleeve, an external zippered pocket for things they need easy access to and two water bottle pockets. It also has padded straps for comfort and is made from a water-repellent mesh.
Bentgo makes one of our lunch boxes for kids and this style from the brand has a removable ice pack that fits directly into the container. It also has four compartments with ideal serving sizes for kids, according to the brand. The tray is both microwave-safe and dishwasher-safe and you can choose from a blue or pink color.
This stainless steel water bottle keeps drinks cold for up to 12 hours, a sweatproof exterior and a locking ring in the lid to prevent spills and leaks, according to the brand. It holds up to 16 ounces of liquid and has a soft-grip handle for easy carrying. Your kid will also love that it comes in a variety of fun prints and colors.
A hard lining makes this lunch bag hard to crush, which helps keep your kid's lunch intact, according to the brand. It also has high-density thermal insulation and an exterior mesh pocket to hold a standard-size water bottle. It can accommodate bento containers up to 9 inches by 6.5 inches and it comes with a swing clip that can be used to secure the lunch bag to the strap of a backpack.
You can't really go wrong with a pair of Crocs for kids — they're colorful, easy to put on and durable. This style is lightweight, offers a roomy fit and has a back strap that can be slid up and worn as a clog. They can also be customized with Jibbitz charms, which are also on sale.
It's pretty much written in stone — you have to start the school year with a new pack of socks. This pack for girls comes with 20 ankle socks and is available in sizes small, medium and large. They're made from a Spandex blend, so they have lots of stretch and are lightweight and not bulky, so they fit in all types of shoes. Hanes also has a pack for boys on sale.
The Google Pixel Watch 2 has a number of functions that are beneficial for kids — and that can be managed by parents. It can serve as a location tracker and allow you to text or call your kid when they're at after-school activities. It has a battery life of up to 24 hours and comes with a range of Google services and the WearOS platform (based on Android), with Fitbit-supplied fitness tracking and built-in Google Assistant.

Warby Parker locations now open in Targets

Target has opened Warby Parker kiosks in Bloomington, Minnesota, and the Chicago suburbs, launching the Minneapolis-based retailer's latest brand partnership. The boutique-style space in Bloomington quietly began serving customers last week, holding a grand opening Saturday complete with blue balloons and giveaways. Even so, the new setup drew a steady stream of curious Target customers on Saturday looking for an eye exam or a fresh pair of frames. "Our goal has always been to make eyewear and eye care as accessible and convenient as possible," said Sandy Gilsenan, chief retail and customer experience officer at Warby Parker. "From the beginning, Target's customer-first mindset made them a natural partner for us." Target is known for brand partnerships, from limited ones like Lilly Pulitzer to permanent deals such as CVS pharmacy and Hearth and Home by Joanna Gaines of HGTV fame. Warby Parker and Target announced the partnership in February. Three other shop-in-shops will open in select Targets toward the end of the summer, with more expected in 2026. In the weeks before the launch, passersby could catch glimpses of Warby Parker's signature blue peeking out from behind branded paper covering the storefront. The eyewear company now has seven locations in Minnesota. The addition of Warby Parker at Target marks a second location in Bloomington. Similar to Target's owned brands, Warby Parker frames are focused on affordability and designer-quality alternatives. The Target shops are staffed and stocked by the eyewear company. Target acts more as a landlord, similar to its arrangement with CVS and Target Optical. Each store will offer Warby Parker's full assortment of eyewear and optical services, including glasses, sunglasses, contacts, eye exams and vision tests. Target Optical, operated by EssilorLuxottica since 2004, carries popular brands like Ray-Ban and Oakley. The Warby Parker locations will not have Target Optical hubs, which can be found at more than 500 stores. Some analysts, who have perceived a lack of consistent newness in Target's inventory, say the Warby Parker partnership makes sense. "(The partnership) shows some good thinking on the part of Target. However, a lot more of this is needed to move the dial," said Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail. "Newness also needs to extend to the core products and brands as this is where some staleness has crept in." At the end of the day, eyewear is not a core product at Target, he said. The company has pledged to bring more newness to product assortment as part of its growth strategy, driven largely by partnerships with other companies. "There's so much newness across discretionary, like our new Pillowfort collections, featuring Disney and Marvel ... or the exciting Warby Parker partnership," Rick Gomez, chief commercial officer at Target, said in a March earnings call. In April, Target rolled out a limited-time collection with Kate Spade, followed more recently by a collaboration with Champion to bring in activewear and sporting goods for adults and kids. Amazon's best Kindles are cheaper than ever at Best Buy

A Kindle lets you carry an entire bookshelf while on the go, which is why almost every year we recommend the e-reader in our guides to the best back to school essentials. With a new semester just around the corner, it's no surprise Best Buy is currently offering the latest versions of some of our favorite models at record low prices. You can, for example, pick up the ad-supported Kindle Paperwhite starting at $124.99 ($35 off) from Best Buy and Target, while Best Buy is selling the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition for $179.99 ($100 off). Best Buy is even discounting the Kindle Scribe, selling the note-taking e-reader with 32GB of storage starting at $259.99 ($140 off). Of all the e-readers out there, the Kindle Paperwhite is my top pick for those who mainly own Kindle books. As somebody who loves reading in the bath, my favorite feature is its IPX8 waterproof rating, which lets me relax without worrying. It's also the fastest and easiest Paperwhite to read yet, thanks to a bigger and brighter 7-inch display that retains its predecessor's sharp 300ppi resolution. Amazon's latest Kindle Paperwhite — aka our favorite ebook reader — is perfect for the valentine who likes to relax by the pool or pretty much anywhere. It's designed to last for weeks at a time, not days, while a larger seven-inch display and adjustable color temperature allow for more natural lighting in any environment. Amazon's other discounted Kindles are also worth considering depending on your needs. If you read a lot of textbooks with visuals or enjoy graphic novels, I'd recommend buying the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition instead. It is largely similar to the Paperwhite but steps things up with a 150ppi color mode that's impressively vibrant for an E ink screen. You'll also get double the storage (32GB), no annoying lockscreen ads, and the added convenience of wireless charging. The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is Amazon's first e-reader with a color display. It also boasts 32GB of storage, waterproofing, and support for wireless charging. Then there's the Kindle Scribe, which is designed for readers who like to take notes while reading. Its larger 10.2-inch display features a paper-like screen and comes bundled with a stylus. Recent software updates now allow you to finally write directly on the page of what you're reading, while its built-in digital notebook means you won't need to carry a separate one to class. The Kindle Scribe even features AI-powered tools that can clean up your handwriting and keep everything organized, making it an excellent all-in-one study companion. The latest Kindle Scribe is a 10.2-inch e-reader with a stylus for taking notes. It's faster than its predecessor and offers a host of new features, including one that lets you jot notes directly in your book. Everything you need to know about Labor Day 2025, according to our deals expert

Labor Day is just under a month away, and the early deals are already rolling in. If there's one thing we can count on alongside get-togethers with friends and family during the upcoming holiday weekend, it's that fresh batches of deals will keep pouring in. Just about every retailer under the sun will be getting in on the savings too. So, whether you're a dedicated Amazon shopper or like to spend your cash elsewhere — think Best Buy, Target, REI and Wayfair — you'll find some of the season's best deals. Until the holiday weekend arrives, we're counting down to the shopping event with all the info you need to know and even some early deals. Apple 13-Inch MacBook Air M4 On top of heralding the end of summer, Labor Day also kicks off back-to-school season. Leading the pack on all of these early deals, a $200 discount on our pick for the best laptop couldn't have landed at a better time. It's an all-time low price that makes the newest MacBook Air an even better recommendation for bringing to the classroom this fall semester and our review Five Star Spiral Notebook, 6-Pack Speaking of gear you'll need in the classroom, this pack of notebooks from Five Star is down to a record-low price on Amazon. Just $18 gets you six ways to take notes in class (or maybe even doodle a bit). Each one has a different color, so you can color-code notebooks to their specific subjects. Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket This packable jacket is always at the top of our list of buys as we head into cooler weather. After all, there's a reason why it's one of Patagonia's signature pieces of outerwear, and we love it even more at 30% off in men's and women's styles. It features a lightweight design that will keep you warm as temperatures begin dropping after Labor Day. Weber Spirit EP-325 3-Burner Propane Grill If your backyard could use an upgrade before that Labor Day weekend party, this Weber grill is seeing an end-of-season discount of $100. This is one of the lowest prices our deals expert has tracked on this three-burner upgrade to your grilling setup. Aquasonic Black Series Ultra Whitening Toothbrush Making the switch to an electric toothbrush doesn't have to cost a fortune. This affordable one from Aquasonic is even more so now that Amazon is taking 40% off. With eight brush heads and a travel case, this set comes with everything you'll need for over two years of brushing with this toothbrush's multiple settings. Dyson V8 Absolute Vacuum Clean up after the Labor Day weekend get-together comes to an end with this V8 Absolute Dyson vacuum. It comes with a lightweight design, a solid battery life and all the other bells and whistles you'd expect from the brand. Save $160 on the vacuum. Hoka Women's Arahi 7 Running Shoes Step into a new pair of kicks this fall now that Dick's Sporting Goods is offering this pair of Hoka running shoes at their best price of the year. Various colors and sizes are on sale for up to 45% off. Yeti Hopper M15 Tote Use this Yeti cooler to keep drinks cold over the holiday weekend, then put it to use during the rest of the year for grocery runs. Available in several discounted colors, the Hopper M15 Tote features foam insulation to keep items cold. It also has an exterior kangaroo pocket to stash and grab keys, phones and our review Waterpik Aquarius Water Flosser A water flosser is key in anyone's oral care routine, and this model from our top-tested brand, Waterpik, just went on sale at Amazon. It features adjustable settings, including a massage mode, and comes with seven tips for multiple users at 40% off. The North Face Men's Antora Jacket This waterproof jacket from The North Face features a recycled build that helps keep you comfortable in both wet and windy conditions. I appreciate its features like elastic cuffs, hook-and-loop Stormflap closure and cinch-cord adjustments throughout for a tailored fit. Google Pixel 9a One of the best budget smartphones our tech editors have used, the Pixel 9a's flagship-level looks and features can be had for an all-time low price right now at Amazon. Several styles are $100 off with this second-ever discount. Read our review Osprey Arcane Large Day Bag Whether you plan on using this bag to store books this semester or want to bring it on a fall hiking trip, this early Labor Day discount on Osprey's Arcade Day Bag makes it a better companion. Save $30 at REI for a limited time in several colors. Skylight Calendar We recently named this digital calendar as one of the best gifts for the Type A mom in your life who loves syncing everyone's schedule. Just before the back-to-school season really amps up, you can save $50 with a rare deal at Best Buy. Anker 8-in-1 20W Charging Station Tidy up your nightstand charging setup or send your college student back to the dorms with a power plug that can keep all of their gear topped off. This 8-in-1 solution from Anker can power different devices with its four AC outlets, dual USB-C slots and a pair of USB-A ports. Labor Day 2025, unofficially known as the end of summer, lands on Monday, Sept. 1. So there's just under a month left to enjoy the season before fall begins rolling in. Early deals are already beginning to go live. I've been covering holiday weekends like Labor Day for almost a decade. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that year after year, the deals keep starting earlier and earlier. So, if we share an all-time low discount or the best price of the year on something that catches your eye, it's not necessarily worth waiting until the actual holiday weekend. In some cases, the best deals even sell out before we actually make it to Labor Day. Just about every major retailer will be offering Labor Day deals. As summer comes to an end and shoppers begin shifting their focus to the winter holiday months towards the end of 2025, Labor Day serves as a first look at what those end-of-year deals will look like. The savings this year will include everything from big-name storefronts like Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart, as well as specialized retailers like Apple, Lululemon and Sephora. I also expect massive sales at home improvement stores such as The Home Depot and Lowe's. It entirely depends on what you're shopping for. Just like previous tentpole events, the best Labor Day deals aren't going to be found at just a single retailer. Luckily, you can leave it to us at CNN Underscored to scour the internet for you. No need to comparison shop among websites; I'll already be doing that. Kick back and enjoy the last few weeks of summer while we do the hard work for you. The deals team and I are constantly researching all the season's best deals. That, of course, carries over to events like the upcoming holiday weekend, so you can cut right to saving. Each team member, including CNN Underscored's deals editor Jacqueline Saguin and associate deals editor Elena Matarazzo, is dialed into specific beats to help surface the best of the best deals. That means you can trust us to deliver shopping expertise on how to save and what gear and gadgets are worth your money. Quite simply, our goal is to save you money. Our senior deals editor, Rikka Altland, has been doing it for nearly a decade, and that kind of experience extends to the rest of our team of deals editors. Being an advocate for buyers to ensure we're only recommending the best prices on the best products is what we're all about.
