Helly Shah On Playing Contrasting Roles In Deda, Zyada Mat Udd: ‘Exciting, Exhausting'
Helly Shah, a prominent television actress, had been out of the spotlight for several years since her debut in the daily soap Ishq Mein Marjawan 2. This year, she ended her hiatus and was back on TV with the weekend show Zyada Mat Udd as well as her first Gujarati film Deda. The actress spoke out about the difficulties she encountered while preparing for two extremely different roles: one as a pregnant lady Deda and the other as an air hostess in Zyada Mat Udd.
In an interview with Tellychakkar, Helly shared that balancing these opposing personalities wasn't easy, especially when it came to her physical appearance. Deda required Helly to gain weight and mimic the physique of a pregnant woman, which necessitated dietary and body language modifications. On the other hand, Zyada Mat Udd needed to be healthy and toned to maintain the sharp and polished appearance of an air hostess.
'Playing such different roles at the same time was both exciting and exhausting. For Deda, I had to put on some weight to look the part, and for Zyada Mat Udd, I had to get back into shape quickly. Managing the diet and looking for both roles was extremely difficult, but I was determined to give my best," she said. Deda is Helly's first Gujarati film which was released on July 4.
Helly Shah's character in her new programme Zyada Mat Udd appears to be already popular with her followers. The show, which airs on ColorsTV and JioHotstar, follows the life of airline cabin staff members. Zyada Mat Udd also stars Shehzada Shaikh and Aishwarya Sakhuja. The show is primarily about Goldie, the wealthy, spoiled son of an airline owner. Goldie takes on the character of an obedient cabin crew member in order to establish his worth as CEO of his father's firm.
Helly Shah also made her OTT debut in Gullak 4. The series, which represents the spirit of India's middle class, resonated with viewers due to its genuine portrayal of daily problems and joys. The cast includes Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Harsh Mayar, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Saad Bilgrami, Deepak Kumar Mishra, Gaurav Sarathe and Sunita Rajwar. Shreyansh Panday developed and directed the series for Viral Fever Media Labs.

Darshana Rajendran reflects on why Paradise is a feminist film, Roshan Mathew (almost) agrees with her
Paradise is a 2023 film, helmed by Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage, and featuring Indian actors Darshana Rajendran and Roshan Mathew in the lead roles. The film follows the Indian couple of Kesav and Amritha, who visit Sri Lanka for their wedding anniversary but the economic crisis in the island nation soon has a bearing on their lives and relationships. During a freewheeling chat with OTTplay, Darshana Rajendran, who plays Amritha in the poignant film, reflects on why Paradise is a feminist film. Her co-actor Roshan Mathew, who appeared as Keshav, too was posed the same question and he too accepted the layers of feminism in the film, but did not forget to bring in a different perspective Darshana Rajendran and Roshan Mathew play the lead roles in Paradise Explore Malayalam cinema with new-age actors Darshana and Roshan Mathew's films such as Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey and Aanandam on JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium. Darshana Rajendran on why Paradise is a feminist film The year is 2022, and the Malayali couple land in Sri Lanka after the neighbouring country has declared bankruptcy. The plot unfolds mostly from Amritha's POV, as she takes in the effects of crisis in the beautiful country. When OTTplay caught up with Darshana and asked her if Paradise is a feminist film, the Malayalam actress said, 'I think so. A lot of the film you are seeing through Amritha. And Prasanna sir also brought a woman writer (Anushka Senanayake), so that it doesn't feel that Amritha isn't explored enough.' Also read: Darshana Rajendran on switching from hits like Hridayam to Paradise, collaborating with Roshan Mathew and more | Exclusive 'Most of the things are not said. In a scene, where Keshav says you should be writing your novel and not waste time on vlogging, Amirtha needs to communicate what her stand is on it. There wasn't a place for it then. But it doesn't go unsaid in the film - maybe it is just a look. It is acknowledged. So, the film does that. I would think that this is a feminist film,' explained Darshana, who has made a space for herself with varied and nuanced portrayals in Malayalam movies such as Purusha Pretham. Roshan Mathew on what Paradise says When the same question was posed to Roshan Mathew, he did not disagree that Paradise could be seen as a feminist film but had a slightly different approach to the answer. 'If you are searching for an angle of feminism, I guess you can find that in Paradise. Although I doubt that was the intention with which Prasanna sir made the film,' he remarked. 'So, the whole story is told pretty much from the perspective of Amritha. We land in Sri Lanka with the couple, then we slowly shift to Amritha. He is following that character and she is an observer to everything that is happening around. So she is someone with good morals and true conscience. 'So that is the position that I think Prasanna sir wants the audience to be in. He wants the audience to tap into their own conscience and question what is happening. That's why I said, if you are searching for a layer of feminism in it, you will probably find it because a lot of politics is discussed in the film, it is questioned, but that is not the sole purpose. Amritha is a human being with a conscience,' explained the Malayali actor, who has been part of Hindi films such as Alia Bhatt's Darlings. Roshan was also seen in the series Kankhajura, which premiered recently on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium. Director Prasanna on whether Paradise is a feminist film On the other hand, Paradise director Prasanna Vithanage was more direct and affirmative in his response to the question about his movie being a feminist film. 'Of course, I don't have to hide it. It is a feminist film but what is feminism? Feminism is not biological. A man could be a feminist too,' he said emphatically. Explaining further, the Sri Lankan filmmaker said, 'As an artist, I believe that women, when it comes to our society, still have not got their due and respect and opportunities as men, especially in our field, cinema. Because artists should always take the side of those marginalized, whether women or ethnically minority. On that note, yes, Paradise is a feminist film.'

Ram Kapoor says it's easier for overweight women to succeed, calls Smriti Irani 'huge'; internet collectively facepalms
Actor Ram Kapoor has stirred the hornet's nest yet again. The actor, who has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately, claimed that overweight women have an advantage over overweight men in showbiz in a new interview. The comments received flak on social media, with many wondering if the actor is trying to get cancelled. Ram Kapoor made some comments on Smriti Irani's weight in a recent interview. Ram Kapoor on actors' weight and success In an interaction with Humans of Bombay, Ram Kapoor addressed the weight and appearance of actors on screen. Mentioning Smriti Irani, he said, "She was my size as a woman and probably more successful than me. It's just that she left earlier and that was Smriti Irani. When she started Kyunki Saas (bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) to when she ended, she was huge. See the first year of Kyunki and the last year of Kyunki, she's as big as I am. But equally successful." Ram then implied that while it will be difficult for more men to achieve success with the weight, women like Smriti have. "It will be difficult for another guy to do it, I agree. But Smriti did it; she did it with all that weight," he added. Internet slams Ram Kapoor After snippets from the interview were shared on social media, the internet expressed its disapproval of the statement. One person exclaimed, "What did I just hear? Did he just say that success is directly proportional to the LITERAL SIZE of a human being? Has he lost it or has this been taken out of context? I mean, wtf?" Another added, "I've literally never seen a single overweight female in a romantic drama on ITV, unless the whole show is abt her weight. But he kept on getting cast as a lead in romantic dramas, where his weight was never the topic of conversation, so wtf is he cribbing abt? Even Smriti was very thin when the show started." Another justified Smriti's success and weight gain, writing, "She legit acted in her pregnancies. And her "size" which, no offence, she looked absolutely beautiful in all her sizes on the show, actually suited the character due to the character having multiple children then going on to have grandchildren etc." On Reddit, one person referred to Ram's recent controversial statements and wondered, "Ram Kapoor wants to be cancelled so bad." Ram Kapoor's recent controversy Ram Kapoor was last seen in JioHotstar's Mistry, an adaptation of Monk. The show's promotions were not without controversy as the actor was removed from the promotional interviews by the streaming platform following his sexist comments aimed at the marketing and publicity team. The actor has since apologised for his behaviour.
