Eyewitnesses reported that the owner of the car was then knocked down while trying to stop the vehicle from taking off down the road.
A woman is believed to be in a critical condition in hospital following an incident in Cork City earlier today where she was knocked down by her own car.
The woman, who eyewitnesses say was in her 60s, had parked her car on Pophams Road, when reports say the car started to roll down the hill.
Eyewitnesses reported that the owner of the car was then knocked down while trying to stop the vehicle from taking off down the road, which contains a steep hill on the Blackpool end.

Emergency services attended the scene, and the woman was taken to Cork University Hospital, where she is believed to be in a critical condition.
Eyewitnesses accounts say that four passers-by had to lift the vehicle off the stricken woman before emergency services arrived.
Gardaí have confirmed that they are currently at the scene of the incident, and that the road remains closed.

Charles Dooher (26) was assaulted at his home on the Conneyburrow Road, Lifford, on Monday, January 20, at around 10am. Gardaí have confirmed a woman has been arrested in connection with the investigation. The woman, aged in her 50s, was arrested on Sunday, July 6, 2025 and was questioned by gardaí. A Garda spokesperson said: 'Gardaí arrested a woman in connection with the investigation into an attempted murder in Lifford, Co Donegal, on 20th January, 2025. 'The woman, aged in her 50s, was arrested on Sunday, 6th July, 2025 and detained at a Garda Station in the North West under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007. "She has since been released and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. 'Investigations are ongoing.' Charles Dooher was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast and he was treated in intensive care, fighting for his life. His family and friends maintained a bedside vigil for the young farmer while he was in hospital. Charles has since undergone surgery and has had a protective plate fitted to his head. Charles' father, Charles Dooher senior, who is aged in his 60s, was also injured in the attack and received treatment for less serious injuries at Letterkenny University Hospital. Earlier this year, the PSNI arrested two adult males in connection with the investigation but they were subsequently released with enquiries ongoing. Gardaí continue to appeal to the public for any information or witnesses related to this incident. Those with camera footage, including dash-cam footage, from the Coneyburrow Road in Lifford between 10am and 11am are urged to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. Gardaí inspect brothels in every major town and city in Ireland in major probe

Gardaí have inspected almost 100 brothels across every major town and city in Ireland, as well as interviewing hundreds of sex workers as part of a massive operation targeting human trafficking for sexual exploitation and forced criminality in Ireland. Between June 1 and 6, Gardaí along with other law enforcement partners worldwide, participated in Operation Global Chain, targeting human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, forced criminality and forced begging in order to detect and disrupt organised crime groups exploiting vulnerable victims for financial gain. The joint activities focused on detecting and disrupting organised crime groups involved in trafficking of human beings, in particular child trafficking, sexual exploitation, forced criminality and forced begging. Over the week, the Garda National Protective Services Bureau liaised with Divisional Protective Services Units across Ireland and coordinated an intensive week of welfare visits to suspected brothels to detect potential incidents of sexual exploitation. Gardaí inspected brothels in every major town and city in Ireland and in total 92 brothels were visited. 179 sex workers were interviewed with nationalities from Brazil, Romania, Spain, China, Dominican Republic, Poland, Latvia, Colombia, Taiwan, Panama, Czech Republic, Malaysia and Ireland. No victims of human trafficking were detected, however they were provided with information and advice should they wish to speak to An Garda Síochána further. On Thursday 5, and Friday 6 June, 37 flights were monitored at Dublin Airport. Members of the Human Trafficking Investigation and Coordination Unit and the Organised Prostitution Investigation Unit were present, carrying out enhanced law enforcement checks with the Border Management Unit of the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration. A total of 5,421 passengers were inspected arriving at Dublin Airport. One male suspect was arrested in an ongoing Human Trafficking investigation for sexual exploitation and forced criminality. This person was detained at Monaghan Garda Station under Organised Crime legislation. At the conclusion of his detention, a charge for Human Trafficking Contrary to Section 4(1) of the Criminal Law (Human Trafficking) Act 2008 was directed by the DPP. 'An Garda Síochána appeals to any person with any information on these heinous crimes or suspects to come forward. Any contacts with An Garda Síochána will be treated in the utmost confidence.'
