The same expressway was unofficially open seven months ago but the toll collection was not there. According to a news report by Times Of India, the toll collection is expected to begin soon. Let's have a look:
Toll placement
There will be four toll plazas at Hedigenabele, Agrahara, Krishnarajapura, and Sundarapalya. It's a distance-based toll system. This means that the charges will be proportionate to the section used by the vehicle.

High-speed travel with home guards for safety

It will allow speeds of up to 120 km/hr. No two-wheelers are allowed on the route. To implement this rule, NHAI seeks permission to deploy home guards at vulnerable entry points and toll plazas.
About the expressway
The Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway is among the country's most ambitious highways. It will reduce travel time between Chennai and Bengaluru significantly. Once operational, the expressway is expected to cut down the current travel time from around 6–7 hours to just under 4 hours.

NHAI cracks down on Highway encroachments and garbage dumping in Pune
In a move to address rising highway accidents around Pune, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a crackdown on illegal encroachments and garbage dumping by roadside commercial establishments. The action follows a spate of incidents reportedly linked to obstructions and safety violations along key highway stretches. NHAI officials stated that such practices compromise visibility, lead to dangerous diversions, and pose a direct threat to commuters. (HT) Taking serious cognisance of the issue, NHAI has begun issuing formal notices to eateries, repair shops, and vendors operating illegally along the highway margins. NHAI officials stated that such practices compromise visibility, lead to dangerous diversions, and pose a direct threat to commuters—particularly during night-time and the monsoon season. Accumulated waste near highways also contributes to waterlogging, slippery conditions, and reduced manoeuvrability for heavy vehicles. 'As per our inspection reports, several establishments are either dumping garbage recklessly or have extended their structures into the highway's right of way,' said a senior NHAI official on condition of anonymity. 'We have issued notices and given a strict deadline for compliance. If not followed, enforcement actions such as demolition and financial penalties will be carried out under the National Highways Act.' Atul Namekar, secretary of the Sinhagad Road-Warje Residents Association, remarked, 'The Katraj-Dehu Road bypass has turned into a dangerous corridor not only due to speeding vehicles but also rampant encroachments. Roadside dhabas, hawkers, and makeshift sheds have taken over highway shoulders, leaving little space for emergency stops or breakdowns.' Namekar added that while complaints have been made repeatedly, on-ground enforcement has remained inconsistent. The NHAI has assured that further inspections and clean-up operations are underway and that continued non-compliance will result in stricter punitive action.

To drive sale of EVs, government to clarify they are exempt from 15-year 'end of life' norm
. NEW DELHI: In a bid to increase the penetration of electric buses, cars and trucks, and to spur their sales, government is likely to clarify soon that the 15-year 'End of Life' (EoL) regulation isn't applicable to EVs. The power ministry will also expedite extending the CAFE norms (regulations designed to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions) to urban freight vehicles, trucks and buses. These were among the steps finalised at a recent high-level meeting chaired by Niti Aayog member Rajiv Gauba amid concerns over the slow progress of EV penetration in the country, which was barely 7.6% in 2024, as against the target of 30% by 2030. While EV penetration is higher for two- and three-wheelers and buses, it has been slow for four-wheelers, with e-trucks not having taken off so far. Sources said that responding to an observation from road transport secretary V Umashankar that most over 15-year-old buses are privately owned, Niti Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam suggested that if the 15-year EOL regulation is not applied to EVs, it may spur sales. Umashankar also held that a mandate for EV adoption works best at places where a certain level of penetration and ecosystem are in place. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like When the Camera Clicked at the Worst Possible Time Read More Undo Sources said there was a consensus to move from incentives to mandates and disincentives for faster EV adoption and for strategies to have saturation in five cities for buses, para-transit and urban freight vehicles. A source said there was unanimous agreement on the need for fast expansion of charging infrastructure, deployment of fast chargers, development of new battery technologies to reduce import dependence and easier finance for e-buses and e-trucks. Days later, the finance ministry held talks with banks to address their reluctance to finance EVs and the issue of higher interest rates. At the meeting chaired by financial services secretary M Nagaraju, banks urged govt to standardise batteries, bring down vehicle costs and announce some incentive for purchase of new batteries, considering that batteries usually have to be replaced in 6-7 years and account for 40-50% of the cost of EVs.

The majestic Talatal Ghar, a seven-storied palace complex that served as the military base of the Ahom army, will soon get a similar facelift. The Kareng Ghar, another architectural marvel that functioned as the royal palace, is also slated for illumination, along with the serene Sivasagar Pukhuri (Lake) and the sacred Shiva Dol temple. "These monuments represent our glorious past and the advanced civilisation that flourished in Assam centuries ago. The illumination project will help younger generations connect with their heritage, while attracting tourists who appreciate the grandeur of Ahom architecture," Garg added. The district administration has also undertaken comprehensive programmes focusing on cleanliness and beautification of historical monuments, temples, tourist spots, parks, and other significant sites across the district. These initiatives aim to create a holistic tourism experience that honours the region's cultural legacy while meeting modern visitor expectations. "Our goal is to transform Sivasagar into a premier heritage destination. The illumination of these monuments is just the beginning of our larger vision to preserve and promote our historical treasures," Garg said.
