Record-breaking musical heading to Perth's Crown Theatre
Renowned producer John Frost said he had admired the legendary show across the decades after the musical had its Australian premiere in Sydney in July 1985.

Gabriyel Thomas, who is currently performing on the Crown Theatre Perth stage in Sister Act, will return to the venue in the coveted role of Grizabella, while the cast also includes Tuart Hill-raised Todd McKenney in the dual roles of Bustopher Jones and Asparagus, the Theatre Cat.
WA Academy of Performing Arts graduates Lucy Maunder and Jarrod Draper will play Jellylorum and Munkustrap respectively, and Mark Vincent makes his return to the musical theatre world as Old Deuteronomy.
Other cast members include Des Flanagan as Rum Tum Tugger and Leigh Archer as Jennyanydots.

The Potbelleez to play in Busselton for first time with intimate Hally's Bar gig
Australian music trio The Potbelleez will be heading to Busselton for the first time in their 20-year career for a more intimate than usual, but still large, show. The group — known for their hits Don't Hold Back and Are You With Me — will be heading to Hally's Bar on August 1, where an audience of 500 people can enjoy a night of electro-house and dance music. Founding member Jonny Sonic said the trio couldn't wait to make their debut in the South West town. 'It's our first time in Busselton and it's very rare for us to have a first time these days, because we pretty much played every nook and cranny in Australia,' he said. 'It's always good to see a new one.' Sonic said with the gig being capped at 500 people, he expected the show to be more engaging for them. 'You can see people in the eye and you can feed off the energy a lot quicker than at a festival,' he said. 'People just get go absolutely bonkers and they feel part of the show. 'When we play a smaller venue, they always feel like they're at a festival because of the grandeur of the show that we put on. It's a very big style of music with a very big sound.' Sonic's message to the locals was to 'put your dancing shoes on, don't be arrogant, treat everybody well on the dance floor, put your phones down and enjoy the night'. Venue manager Peter Davies said the crew were excited to welcome the trio. 'It's going to just be a party of fun. They're going to be playing all their hits, which are many,' he said. Davies reached out to the band, having known them since 2008, and asked Sonic if they wanted to do a show in the South West town. He thought he would be organising the event for a different, larger local venue but was happy to hear the trio wanted to play in their smaller venue. '(Sonic) said 'let's do an intimate gig piece. Mr Everett, 66, has been charged with sexually touching another person without consent after he was arrested at his Toukley home on NSW's Central Coast on July 26. An investigation into the alleged assault of a teenager was started on July 25, and Mr Everett was arrested the following day, police said. "Following extensive inquiries, about 1.30pm today, police arrested a 66-year-old man at a home at Toukley," NSW Police said in a statement. Home and Away to film in WA for first time in TV drama's history
Home and Away will film in WA for the first time in the show's 37-year history, and the team behind Australia's number one TV drama has promised an 'ambitions, high-stakes' storyline to mark the occasion. The program will swap Summer Bay for WA in October, with filming to take place across several locations including Perth, the state's rugged coastline and expansive outback. Home and Away's series producer, Lucy Addario, said the team is 'beyond excited' to be filming out west. 'Its awe-inspiring beauty, diverse landscapes and sheer scale make it the perfect backdrop for this huge storyline,' Addario said. Pre-production is underway for the five special episodes, which will showcase WA to audiences in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and almost 50 other international markets. The trip west is in partnership with Tourism WA and the WA Government, which is keen to capitalise on the 250,000 UK viewers who tune into Home and Away every night. The UK is already WA's largest tourism market, with 117,000 visitors from there pouring about $240 million into the local economy in 2024. 'We are thrilled' 'From Summer Bay to WA, we are thrilled to welcome one of Australia's most iconic television shows to our state,' WA Tourism Minister Reece Whitby said. 'Home and Away has been a staple of Australian television for close to 40 years, and this special WA storyline presents a great opportunity to showcase the state to millions of viewers across the country and around the world. 'When our pristine coastline and diverse tourism experiences are broadcast to homes across the country and overseas next year, we encourage viewers to come and see these spectacular locations for themselves.' Tourism Council WA chief executive Evan Hall said WA's beaches and coastal lifestyle 'are really appealing to the UK visitor'. 'Getting in with Home and Away is the ideal way to showcase that,' he told 7NEWS. The episodes are expected to air on Seven and 7plus in 2026.
