Disclose all social media handles from past 5 years for visa
If you're planning to study or take part in an exchange program in the United States, get ready to open up your digital life. As of a newly enforced policy, all applicants for F, M, and J nonimmigrant visas must now disclose their social media activity from the past five years.
The US Department of State has expanded its vetting requirements, demanding visa applicants list every username or handle they've used on any social media platform within that timeframe. This move is part of a broader effort by the US government to enhance national security and prevent entry of individuals considered threats.
A public profile is now part of the screening
In an official announcement shared by the US Embassy in India and through its social media channels, authorities emphasized that applicants are not only required to list all their social media identifiers, but also must adjust their account privacy settings to 'public'.
This is intended to allow consular officers to fully examine the applicant's online presence as part of their background check.
The requirement applies specifically to individuals applying for F (academic students), M (vocational students), and J (exchange visitors). Consular officers will use this information—combined with personal interviews and other documents—to assess whether the applicant meets the standards for entry into the country.

What must applicants disclose?
The information is collected through the DS-160, the online nonimmigrant visa application form. As applicants fill out the form via the Consular Electronic Application Centre, they are presented with a drop-down menu listing various social media platforms. They must select each one they've used over the last five years.
Once a platform is selected, the form prompts for every relevant identifier: username, handle, email address, or phone number used on that account.
If multiple usernames were used, applicants must click 'Add Another' to provide all entries. Failing to include accurate and complete information is not a minor oversight—it may lead to a visa denial and even make the applicant ineligible for future US visas.
Why is the US doing this?
This expanded scrutiny stems from the ongoing effort by the US government to strengthen security through detailed applicant screening.
A press release from the US Department of State referenced the "Announcement of Expanded Screening and Vetting for Visa Applicants" and emphasized that all F, M, and J visa applicants will be subjected to a comprehensive vetting process, including analysis of their online behavior.
Officials reaffirmed the long-standing principle that a US visa is a privilege, not a right, echoing sentiments repeatedly emphasized by President Trump and other senior policymakers.
What happens if you leave something out?
According to the embassy, applicants certify the accuracy of their application when they sign the DS-160 form. Any omission—intentional or not—can result in visa rejection and future ineligibility, a risk the embassy clearly warns against.
The message is unambiguous: if you've used a social platform in the last five years, the US wants to know about it—and see what you've posted. With national security as the driving concern, social media vetting is no longer just a possibility; it is now a required part of the US visa application process.

‘Good luck with that': Trump's border czar hits back at Mamdani's anti-ICE plan for NYC

US President Donald Trump's immigration chief Tom Homan has issued a fiery challenge to Zohran Mamdani, the newly victorious NYC mayoral primary candidate, after Mamdani vowed to 'kick the fascist ICE out of New York City.' Responding on Fox Business' Kudlow a day after Mamdani's win, Homan scoffed, 'Good luck with that,' before adding: 'Federal law trumps him every day, every hour of every minute.' 'We're going to be in New York City, matter of fact, because it's a sanctuary city and President Trump made it clear a week and a half ago, we're going to double down and triple down on sanctuary cities.' he said. Homan, tapped by Trump to spearhead his border crackdown, said agents would focus on areas 'releasing public safety threats and national security threats back to the street.' Trump's border czar asserted that if immigration enforcement officials can't arrest people in jail, they would 'find them' in neighbourhoods or work sites, adding, 'so game on, we're coming.' New: 🚨 Border Czar Tom Homan on Zohran Mamdani for wanting to protect illegal aliens who are p*dos and r*pists. 'Good luck. Federal law trumps him every day, hour, and minute. We're going to be tripling down in NYC.' 👊🏻 — Jay 🇺🇸 Rapid Response Guy (@RapidResponseXY) June 25, 2025 The warning comes amid rising tensions over immigration enforcement in the Big Apple. Mamdani, a Democratic socialist and Queens assemblyman, declared victory in the June 24 Democratic primary with a pledge to 'Trump-proof' the city. His campaign criticised Trump's use of ICE to target immigrant families, and he pledged sweeping changes to protect undocumented New Yorkers. But Homan made clear the administration has other plans: 'Not only are we going to send more agents to the neighborhood, we are going to increase worksite enforcement tenfold.' In contrast, Homan praised current Mayor Eric Adams for cooperating with ICE on 'significant public safety threats' and helping trace the 300,000 missing children trafficked across the US. He described Adams as a law-and-order mayor whose 'hands are tied in many ways.' Mamdani has clashed with Homan before. In March, he confronted him at the New York state Capitol and posted video of the encounter during his campaign. The Astoria politician was protesting ICE's arrest of anti-Israel activist Mahmoud Khalil, detained for allegedly lying on his visa application. Today I confronted 'border czar' Tom Homan who came to Albany to do Trump's bidding — push for mass deportations, carry out the assault on working class New Yorkers, and justify the unjustifiable detention of legal permanent resident and father-to-be, Mahmoud Khalil. — Zohran Kwame Mamdani (@ZohranKMamdani) March 12, 2025 Now, Homan says, the fight over immigration enforcement in New York City is far from over: 'We don't have this problem in Florida… so we're going to double up and triple up on New York.' Meanwhile, Trump posted to Truth Social on Wednesday: 'It's finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We've had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous.' Trump continued: 'He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he's not very smart, he's got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin' Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!'

'There's Really Nothing You Can Do About It': HasanAbi Criticizes Ethan Klein Over Streamer Lawsuits

Image via: HasanAbi/YouTube The tensions between the world of online political commentary exploded this week when popular Twitch streamer Hasan 'HasanAbi' Piker decided to fire missiles at YouTuber Ethan Klein, due to Klein's ever-increasing barrage of often-frivolous lawsuits against other creators on the platform. During a June 26 Twitch stream, Piker lambasted Klein's legal maneuvers as exploitative and representative of greater maladies in the American judicial system. Streamer-on-Streamer Legal War Copyright infringement lawsuits filed by Ethan Klein, best known for his H3H3 brand, has set a firestorm among three political streamers Denims, Morgan 'Frogan,' and Kacey 'Kaceytron.' All of these streamers are members of the same online streamer circles, and often share the same political alignment as Piker, so the criticism that they are all misappropriating Klein's content is what is hanging over their heads. As critics point out, these lawsuits are not really about protecting intellectual property as much as they are about retribution against those who speak out against you. Piker, who definitely has a history of publicly sparring with Klein mentioned, 'When you're depraved and manic and insane, you don't care about wasting unlimited funds... You can be a vexatious litigant.' Abusing the System? While Piker did not go so far in a legal sense as to label the lawsuits as frivolous, he indicated that the suits constitute an abuse of structural power. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like India: Jewelry On Sale For Half Price (See Price List) Luxury Jewelry | search ads Undo He supported a viewer's comment saying that Klein is 'abusing the system,' then continued to call the U.S. legal apparatus broken and rigged for rich people. 'Given the way that our legal system works, given the way that our court system works, given the way that copyright works, there's really nothing you can do about it,' Piker said. 'You basically hope that the [cyberstalkers] calm down.' His comments seemed to reflect a larger worry that copyright claims are being used as a weapon against, and to financially bankrupt, independent creators without legal artillery at their disposal. Personal Vendetta or PR Stunt? Piker suggested that Klein's lawsuits are not so much about seeking justice as they are about creating a spectacle. 6, he speculated that this was perhaps a calculated move to create some clickbait online drama or even help revive Klein's fading public profile. 'It's a last-ditch attempt,' he said, implying that Klein might be using litigation as a publicity tool. The Ethan Klein Lawsuit Just Got Worse | Hasanabi reacts So far, none of the accused streamers have issued formal responses, but community reaction has meted out pretty quick and in a divisive manner, to say the least. On one side, supporters of Klein's actions praise the enforcement as long-needed protection of creator rights. Supporters aligning with Piker's perspective disparage the lawsuits as a harmful new digital content precedent. No matter how the courtroom drama goes, the turf war between two of the web's most aggressive political performers isn't letting up any time soon. Child pornography, exploitation in Punjab: 2 arrested, 33 suspects identified in operation across 18 districts

1 2 Chandigarh: The cybercrime division of Punjab Police has arrested two individuals and identified 33 suspects involved in viewing, transmitting, and distributing child pornography and expoitive content of minors, said a top official on Friday. Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the content, which is described as child sexual exploitative and abusive material (CSEAM), was being distributed through online platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Telegram. The operation, codenamed CSEAM-4, was conducted on Thursday and spanned 40 locations across 18 districts. The action came after complaints to Union ministry of home affairs' Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), the DGP said. The Supreme Court, in a judgement, clarified that viewing, possessing, and not reporting CSEAM content is punishable under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act. CSEAM refers to any content depicting or exploiting minors in a sexual manner, including photos, videos, or media, which is illegal to produce, distribute, or possess, causing long-lasting harm to victims and considered a severe form of child exploitation due to the lasting impact it had on victims. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Those arrested have been identified as Akash Babu, a resident of Rajasthani Colony in Khanna, and Harpreet Singh, a resident of Burmajra village in Morinda, Ropar.
