Man in hospital with serious injuries after being shot by police at village pub
The shooting took place at around 9pm on Monday at The Park Gate Inn, in Hollingbourne, Kent.
Kent police say their officers arrived at the scene at 7.15pm to carry out an arrest.
The man remains in hospital having suffered what are thought to be 'life changing' injuries.
An investigation by the police watchdog, the IOPC has been launched and is in 'very early stages' in response to the incident.
The IOPC have released a statement saying: ''We have begun an independent investigation after a man was shot and seriously injured by Kent Police, who were responding to an incident on Monday July 7.
'We were notified by the force after the incident in Hollingbourne, which occurred shortly before 9pm, and declared an independent investigation a short time later.
'The man is receiving treatment in hospital for his injuries which are thought to be life changing.
'We have sent investigators to the scene and the police post incident procedure to begin gathering evidence.
'Our investigation is in the very early stages.'
The A20 Ashford Road, near Leeds Castle, was shut by officers at around 8.45pm yesterday
Kent police have said: 'Kent Police attended an address in Hollingbourne, Maidstone to conduct an arrest at approximately 7.15pm on Monday July 7 2025.
'While at the scene, a firearm was discharged by a police officer.
'A man sustained injuries believed to be life-changing and was taken to a London hospital where he remains receiving treatment.
'Shortly afterwards the IOPC declared an independent investigation, which Kent Police is supporting.'

Bath Township police officers placed on leave after tasing, shooting at suspect
BATH TWP. — At least two Bath Township police officers were placed on paid administrative leave after shooting at and tasing a male offender terrorizing township residents on July 12, at one point holding a knife to a resident's throat . Injuries of victims were treated at the scene, and the offender arrested is in stable condition at a University of Michigan Health – Sparrow hospital, the Bath Township Police Department said on its Facebook page regarding an 'officer-involved shooting.' Police did not provide an age or hometown of the suspect but said officers were not injured. The Michigan State Police is investigating the incident, which is routine for officer-involved shootings. Bath police said in their release that officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of Heathfield Drive, east of Park Lake Road and near Pine Hollow Drive, at about 2:27 p.m. because a 'suspicious individual' was walking through yards and trying to break into vehicles. A caller said the suspect entered a garage at a neighbor's residence and wasn't seen departing. Soon after, a second caller from the 16000 block of Nichols Road, also near Pine Hollow Drive, told dispatchers 'that he had been stabbed by an unknown person who entered his home. ' Officers were able to enter the Nichols Road home. 'The offender held the victim hostage with a knife to the victim's throat,' police said. 'During the encounter, the offender separated from the victim and fled out of a side door of the residence. The offender was still in possession of the knife and began running from the scene.' Officers ordered the offender to stop, but he continued running towards the Meadows neighborhood. 'Both officers on scene discharged their service weapons,' police said. The offender was able to enter an English Oak Drive residence, locking the door behind him. Officers yelled and kicked at the door, and a resident was able to go to the front door to be removed and evacuated from the home, uninjured and unaware the offender was inside. The offender fled again. 'One officer discharged his service weapon as the offender entered the neighbor's garage,' police said 'Officers apprehended the offender after a short struggle. A taser was deployed, and the offender was taken into custody. 'Officers on scene immediately rendered aid to the injured offender and requested emergency medical services.' Police said all of the victims were treated on the scene. 'We believe this incident is contained and there is no ongoing threat to the public,' police said. 'The Bath Township officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.' Police were not immediately available for further comment. Check back for updates. Bare-knuckle boxer who beat up OAP 'regrets nothing' as 'nobody threatens my family'
A former bare-knuckle boxer who battered a 78-year-old in a pub said he had 'no regrets' about what he did. Dougie Joyce, who is part of one of Greater Manchester's most well-known Traveller families, was jailed in November 2023 following the attack on the pensioner. He said the victim had insulted his father, John Joyce - who was given a community order for his part in the attack. "The bottom line of the story is my father knocked him spark out 35 years ago. That was it," he said. "But what it was he was holding a grudge against my father. He's obviously not got over it. "There was a little bit of commotion. And then he got very abusive coming out with his name calling and then he just took it one step too far. "He threatened my family. Nobody threatens my family. I don't care who you are. "Obviously I've got drink in my system and I'm an alpha male and the thing is I'll always protect my family. "So, I've done what I've done and at the end of the day, I've paid the price, been to jail. It's the past. I put it behind me. It is what it is." He also touched on his time in Strangeways and Forest Bank during the podcast and said: "It was plain sailing. "Just kept my head down, got on with it, done my gym, met a few nice fellas in there. "I know a lot of people anyways from in inside out and there was no issues whatsoever."

First picture of driver who died in M9 crash with passenger in Edinburgh hospital
A driver who died in a crash on the M9 has been named — as the passenger remains in an Edinburgh hospital. Jamie Johnstone, 37, was driving a black Vauxhall Corsa when he was involved in a collision between junctions six and seven near Carronshore on July 9. The passenger, a 32-year-old male, is in a 'stable condition' at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Police have said enquiries into the incident are ongoing, and have urged anyone who may have information that could help to get in touch.
