Eileen Fulton dies aged 91
Eileen Fulton has died. The veteran actress - who was known as the first bad girl of daytime television for her role as Lisa Miller in As the World Turns - passed away on 14 July in Asheville, North Carolina, at the age of 91 following a period of declining health, her family announced in an obituary. Eileen joined As the World Turns in May 1960 until the CBS show went off air in September 2010, making her one of the longest-starring soap actors in US TV history, despite the role initially being created as a short-term character. The actress - whose real name was Margaret Elizabeth McLarty - was inducted into the Soap Opera Hall of Fame in 1998 and received a Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. Eileen was raised in Asheville and moved to New York to pursue an acting career after graduating from Greensboro College with a music degree in 1956. In the Big Apple, she studied with famed acting coaches Sanford Meisner and Lee Strasberg at the Neighborhood Playhouse, as well as dance teacher Martha Graham, and her feature debut came in 1960 in Girl of the Night. Eileen was also a writer and singer and performed a cabaret act for years in venues in both New York and Los Angeles. At one point during her time on As the World Turns - which was then broadcast live - she was also appearing on Broadway in Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf and in off-Broadway musical The Fantasticks. She co-wrote her first autobiography, How My World Turns, in 1970 and jointly wrote her second, As My World Still Turns, 25 years later. Eileen also wrote a series of murder-mystery books and a novel titled Soap Opera. She retired in 2019 and moved back to North Carolina. Eileen is survived by her brother, Charles Furman McLarty, niece Katherine Morris and their children, and her sister-in-law Chris Page McLarty.

Terrifying moment Delta plane catches fire after take off
This is the frightening moment a Boeing passenger plane catches fire after take off – as flames are seen spitting out of the engine. The Delta Airlines flight's engine appeared to be ablaze – moments before it was forced to divert back to Los Angeles following the horrifying ordeal. In the shocking footage, the Boeing 767-400 jet can be seen turning slightly as its left engine erupts with a raging inferno. The horrified onlooker recording the harrowing footage is heard commenting over the concerning scenes. They say: 'Oh, look at that. Whoa! Was that a compressor stall? What's going on?' The huge aircraft continues to fly on as the fireball rages on under the plane's engine. The fire broke out as the plane was ascending over the City of Angels. It was on its way to Atlanta, Georgia, before it was forced to return to its takeoff point. The pilots managed to circle back before landing safely on the runway. Later on in the footage, the plane is seen descending back onto the tarmac. Its landing gear thankfully comes down before the jet lands and the engine appears to be free from any more flames. Emergency vehicles are then seen rushing towards the aircraft in order to provide assistance. And the jet was finally seen being escorted off of the runway back to its bay. A spokesperson for Delta Airlines told BBC: 'Delta Flight 446 returned to Los Angeles shortly after departure following an indication of an issue with the aircraft's left engine.' The chilling footage was captured by YouTube channel LA Flights which is run by Josh and Peter. The horrifying footage emerged after another Delta Airlines flight was diverted when a passenger reportedly brought a dangerous item on-board that caused a fire. Screams rang out, smoke clouded the seats, and flight attendants rushed to grab an extinguisher after the mid-air blaze broke out, one flyer on the plane revealed. Delta confirmed that flight 1334, which was a Boeing 757 travelling from Atlanta, Georgia, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was diverted because of a battery fire on Monday. The airline said that attendants 'worked quickly' to extinguish a battery belonging to a customer that had spontaneously combusted, a spokesperson told USA Today.

Harry and Meghan brutally skewered by Family Guy again
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been mocked by Family Guy as their marriage is compared to 'Hitler and the Crusades'. The newest series of the satirical cartoon takes a swipe at the pair in an episode where two beloved characters go back in time, reports The Sun. FOX aired the clip this week, which brutally mocks the royals by listing them with two of history's darkest moments. The dig comes during a time-travelling skit where characters Stewie and Brian meet American author Mark Twain. Brian says: 'Doesn't history pretty much suck? The Crusades, Hitler …' Stewie then chimes in: 'Prince Harry marrying Meghan Markle?' The episode then cuts to a cartoon version of the Duke of Sussex sitting on a sofa watching the show. He complains: 'Oh, again?' The character then turns to the audience and remarks: 'Oh like all your wives are so much better?' It's the latest pop culture roasting for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who've been regularly skewered by US cartoons since quitting royal life in 2020. After making the move across the pond for privacy, the couple splashed out on their Montecito mansion – which was also a point of ridicule for the pair. In 2023, Family Guy poked fun at their Netflix deal, showing the royals lounging by a pool next to their mansion. A butler handed them a cheque for 'millions … for no-one knows what'. Cartoon Harry sips from a champagne flute before muttering: 'Put it with the rest of them.' Then Meghan gets a ping on her phone and says: 'Babe, time to do our $250,000 sponsored Instagram post for Del Taco.' In an apparent reference to Harry's criticism of the royal family, he responds: 'I shouldn't have left the made-up nonsense.' Family Guy isn't the only comedy show that has taken a swipe at the couple. The royals were also torn to shreds by South Park, which aired an episode called 'The Worldwide Privacy Tour'. The cheeky episode began with a disclaimer saying all characters – even if they're based on real people – are fictional. But fans were quick to point out the Prince's red hair and his wife's floppy hat drew similarities to the Duke and Duchess. The episode mocked their constant calls for privacy while accusing them of endlessly chasing the spotlight. Fans were left in hysterics over the episode in February 2023, where the couple were seen holding huge signs begging to be left alone. The couple hang banners above their house demanding privacy – and hold loud 'privacy parties' in their front garden. Cartoon Meghan is shown in the same pink outfit she wore to Trooping the Colour. The pair also appear as guests on a talk show to talk about the Prince's book, named Waaagh, which gives a striking resemblance to Prince Harry's bombshell memoir, Spare. After the show aired it was reported that the couple were considering legal action. However their spokesperson has lashed out at the claims, and told Newsweek: 'This is baseless and boring.' Sources in California previously claimed Meghan 'was annoyed by South Park but refuses to watch it all'. After it aired, viewers joked that the representation was spot on. One said: 'South Park has seriously nailed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.' Another added: 'They are definitely ripping on Harry and Meghan.'
