Railways too good for Indian Navy, completes a hat-trick of titles
After a sedate start in the pool matches, Railways peaked when it mattered most: in the knockouts.
It was a lesson in spotting the weakness of the opponent and working out a plan and executing it to a T.
Realising that the Navy players are excellent in deflections through long and short passes from the 25-yard, dotted lines and the striking circle, Railways seldom allowed the rival strikers any leeway to unleash their shots. Such was the effectiveness of the Railways defence.
In all the four quarters, Railways held the upper hand, negating Navy's counter-attacks with ease.
Eight minutes into the contest, Railways scored through Shivam Anand who scooped one to the roof of the net after receiving the pass from Gursahibjit Singh from the left. It could have been 2-0 for Railways towards the end of first quarter if not for Zameer, being the last man standing behind 'keeper Sanjay Bhaskar, blocking a shot by Sayyad Niyaz Rahim.
Within minutes, Navy equalised through Aakib Rahim Arif who slotted it home from the top of the circle.
Thereafter, it was Railways' show all the way. Pankaj Rawat converted a copy-book penalty corner shot in the third quarter and Niyaz Rahim's fierce hit from the circle in the 57th minute made it beyond the reach of Navy.
Sunil Kumar Singh, who was the head coach of Railways for three straight time, was ecstatic. 'It's a huge achievement for us to have a hat-trick in such a big tournament. We improved after each match. We knew the opponent will be depending on the slap shot. We only had to make sure we block it once they enter the 25-yard,' said Sunil.
Railways received Rs. 7 lakh while Navy had to be content with Rs. 5 lakh.
M. M. Murugappan, chairman, CUMI and Chola MS, gave away the prizes.
The result (final): Indian Railways 3 (Shivam Anand 8, Pankaj Rawat 37, Sayyad Niyaz Rahim 57) bt Navy 1 (Aakib Rahim Arif 15).

Unregistered players from hills get trial call for season 2 of U'khand Premier League
Dehradun: The Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) will conduct trials for unregistered players from rural areas ahead of the second edition of the Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL), scheduled for Sept. CAU secretary Mahim Verma said on Monday that the trials will take place on Aug 4, 5, and 6 in Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar districts. "The trials for the players not registered with the state cricket board will be held at Ayush Cricket Academy in Dehradun and Amenity Cricket Academy in US Nagar. There's no age bar for participation. Trials will be overseen by observers, selectors, and match officials," said Verma. "Male players must pay a one-time registration fee of Rs 2,000, and female players Rs 1,500, before 8.30 am on the trial day." He added that each UPL franchise has also been instructed to select four players who are not affiliated with any cricket board and have not played in formal tournaments. "This initiative aims to identify 25–30 such players for the second season and promote cricket in rural and hill districts of Uttarakhand," Verma said.

New velodrome worth Rs 35 crore to come up at Balewadi sports complex in Pune ahead of Grand Challenge Tour cycling
The Maharashtra government will replace the damaged velodrome at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune's Balewadi with a Rs 35-crore facility ahead of the international cycle race Pune Grand Challenge Tour in January 2026. 'There was a meeting called to discuss the upcoming Pune Grand Challenge Tour 2026. I proposed developing a velodrome at the state government-owned sports complex in Balewadi. It was immediately given a go-ahead by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar along with assurance of funding of Rs 35 crore for the project,' said Sports Commissioner Sheetal Teli-Ugale Monday. 'I informed the deputy chief minister that the state of the existing velodrome is so bad that the youths practising at the facility get injured after falling. The existing velodrome should be demolished and a new world-class facility should be constructed as a remembrance of starting the international cycle event in the Pune district,' she said. The new velodrome will be a symbol of the international event in Pune and will also nurture prospective cyclists for international competitions, said Teli-Ugale, adding that all damaged structures will be demolished and replaced to meet world-class standards. However, buildings and other materials that can be reused will not be reconstructed, she said. The sports directorate will work to construct a velodrome before the international cycle race competition, Ugale-Teli said. 'We are not sure whether work will be completed before the international event, as the state government has to complete the technical process of issuing a government resolution for allocating funds for the project. It is only after that that the tender process will be started, and thereafter actual work will start.' She said the planning for organising the international sports event has just begun, with responsibilities distributed to various government organisations. 'There will be frequent meetings for this purpose. The route for the cycle race will also be finalised by the concerned sports authority and informed to us. This race will pass through all terrains.' The Pune Grand Challenge Tour 2026 will be a pioneering event in India, modelled after esteemed global races like the Tour de France. This multi-stage race will cover over 600 kilometres, traversing urban, rural, and hilly terrains across various locations, including Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Baramati, Mulshi, Maval, Purandar, Bhor, and Velhe, among others. Super League Kerala signs five-year Rs 100-crore streaming rights deal with Sports.com
a part of the USA-based SEGG Media Group, has signed a five-year global partnership with Super League Kerala that could increase the football league's viewership in a big way. 'This is a Rs 100-crore deal and the contract is for five years. The global live streaming rights are now with Mathew Joseph, the CEO of the Super League Kerala (SLK), told Sportstar on Monday. 'This is also first entry into India; it will become the exclusive OTT platform for the SLK, and it will be free of cost. That is what we are more interested in,' he added.
