Kataria remained an admirer of Fauja Singh, attending anti-drug campaigns with him in Punjab in December last year.
Fauja Singh, famously known as 'Turbaned Tornado' and 'Sikh Superman', suffered fatal head injuries on July 14 after a white Toyota Fortuner hit him while he was crossing a road in his village. He passed away later that day. Singh was the world's oldest marathon runner, and had become a global symbol of endurance and healthy aging.
The accused driver, Amritpal Singh, 26, a Canada-based NRI from the nearby Dasupur village, was arrested by police on July 15.
He is facing charges under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash driving) and 125-A (endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Amritpal had come from Canada eight days before the accident and recently purchased the Toyota Fortuner (PB 20-C-7100) from a Kapurthala resident.

According to the BBC, the group operated under Mason's direction like a tightly run business. She was described by Judge Philip Shorrock as 'the site foreman working under a project manager.' The investigation began in April 2023 when undercover officers observed Mason loading boxes into a hire car in a Harwich retail park. After following the vehicle to Ipswich, they watched her hand over a laundry bag to a man. Her unassuming appearance had made her a calculated choice for such handovers, her barrister noting she 'would not catch the eye.' Over the next seven months, the Metropolitan Police tracked Mason and her gang as they collected cocaine from ports like Harwich, Folkestone, and Dover. The drugs, often tightly packed and split into supermarket bags, were delivered across cities including London, Cardiff, Bristol, Sheffield, and Manchester. One courier was found with 10kg of cocaine shortly after a drop in Leicester. Prosecutors said the gang trafficked at least 356 kg of cocaine in 20 known trips, with a potential street value of £80 million ($1.07 billion). The gang used the encrypted messaging app Signal to communicate, often under aliases. Mason had a particularly close relationship with a man known only as 'Bugsy,' believed to be the supplier. The two even holidayed together in Dubai and Bahrain. Prosecutor Charlotte Hole said Mason managed every detail, from wake-up calls for drivers to regular check-ins throughout their routes. Though she didn't purchase the drugs herself, Mason coordinated multi-kilo transactions and 'took a cut of the wages' of those working under her. Mason enjoyed the profits, splurging on Gucci accessories. When arrested, police found her in a bathroom draped with a DKNY towel. Holidays to Dubai, Malta, Prague, and Poland were also funded through the drug network. Even while abroad, she reportedly managed UK operations via FaceTime. Mason involved her three daughters, her son, two partners, and close family friends in the operation. Her son, Reggie Bright, 24, was among the most active, making 12 drug trips and delivering at least 90kg of cocaine. His partner, Demi Kendall, and sister Lillie Bright often accompanied him. The prosecution said all members were motivated by financial gain, and there was no sign of coercion. Defence lawyers argued the children were 'couriers' rather than key decision-makers. Specialist prosecutor Robert Hutchinson described the group as 'no ordinary family,' stating, 'Instead of nurturing and caring for her relatives, Deborah Mason recruited them to establish an extraordinarily profitable criminal enterprise that would ultimately put them all behind bars.' Cattle theft caught on camera in Udupi: Masked men seen brutally dragging cow into vehicle
U DUPI: A man alleged cattle theft and animal cruelty in Kundapur taluk, where three masked persons were caught on video brutally dragging a cow into a vehicle and fleeing the spot. The complainant, Jayaprakash Shetty, 48, a resident of Hardalli Mandalli village in Kundapur taluk, stated that he received a video on his mobile phone on Saturday while attending a grama sabha meeting. Upon watching the video, it was revealed that at around 3:50 AM the same day, three masked thieves arrived from the Hunsemakki side in a four-wheeler. Near the Bidkalakatte market area, they got down from the vehicle, caught hold of a cow that was lying there, tied it with a rope, and forcefully dragged it into their vehicle in a brutal manner before fleeing towards Shiroor. The vehicle's registration number is not clearly visible, he stated. A case was registered at Kota Police Station under Section 303(2) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Udupi senior citizen duped of Rs 1.59 lakh while trying to cancel online subscription
UDUPI: An elderly resident lost nearly Rs 1.59 lakh in an online scam after attempting to cancel his Jio Hotstar subscription through a helpline number he found on Google . The complainant, Lokanath Bangera, 68, a resident of Kutpadi, stated that the incident took place on Saturday when he was at home and tried to cancel his Jio Hotstar subscription. He searched for the helpline number on Google. When he called a number, an unknown person redirected the call to another number. The complainant informed the person that he wished to cancel his subscription. He alleged that the fraudster then obtained the complainant's Google Pay details and, without his knowledge, accessed OTPs and fraudulently transferred Rs 99,500 and Rs 60,000 from two bank accounts. A case was registered at Udupi Town Police Station under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
