2 more Bersatu members arrested after anti-Anwar rally
PETALING JAYA : Two more Bersatu members have been arrested by police, believed to be in connection with the Turun Anwar rally held on Saturday.
According to Bersatu Youth information chief Harris Idaham Rashid, the duo – Furqan Hakimi, who serves as the executive secretary of the wing's Perak chapter, and Syafiq Aziz – were picked up today.
'They are believed to have been arrested over the July 26 rally. Both will be taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters. An application to extend their remand is expected to be made tomorrow morning,' he said.
In the same statement, Harris said the magistrate had earlier today rejected an application by police to extend the remand order of two others.
'As a result, Badrul Hisham Shaharin and (Sijangkang PAS Youth chief) Ikhwan Syaffiq were released at 5pm today,' he said.
Badrul, better known as Chegubard, was arrested by police at his home yesterday evening.
Badrul earlier said in a Facebook post that police had informed him he was being probed under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 for doing or attempting to do any act with a seditious tendency, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities, and Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.
He said he was also being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for using indecent, threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour that could lead to a breach of the peace.
The Perikatan Nasional rally on Saturday saw protesters, estimated at 18,000 by police, calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Malaysia, Philippines to strengthen strategic cooperation for Asean's future, says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and the Philippines are committed to strengthening strategic cooperation to ensure a more peaceful and united future for Asean, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. "The discussion also touched on peace and harmony in international waters and border areas, which are our shared priorities for regional stability," he said. Anwar said he also shared positive developments regarding the border negotiations between Thailand and Cambodia, which are expected to be finalised this Thursday through the consensus of the two countries' defence ministers during the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) meeting here. The Prime Minister said the development marked another step forward in realising Asean's aspirations of becoming a peaceful, stable and prosperous region. Cambodian Defence Minister General Tea Seiha and acting Thai Defence Minister General Natthaphon Narkphanit, along with armed forces chiefs and government representatives of both countries, are expected to attend the GBC meeting. 4-year-old boy dies in fall from 8th floor condo
Klang Selatan deputy police chief Kamal Ariffin Aman Shah said the boy died of head injuries while being treated in hospital. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A four-year-old boy died after falling from an eighth floor apartment in a condominium at Port Klang this morning. Police said the boy's father was at work while his mother had gone out to send another child to the babysitter's house. 'The boy is believed to have fallen out of the window of the family's apartment on the eighth floor,' Klang Selatan deputy police chief Kamal Ariffin Aman Shah said in a statement. The boy died of head injuries while receiving treatment at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.
