ONGOLE: The State government is prioritising the completion of TIDCO housing units across the State, aiming to deliver 365 and 430 sq. ft. houses to beneficiaries by this Deepavali festival, announced Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), P Narayana, on Friday. In a district-level review meeting at the Collectorate, the Minister confirmed that the long-delayed construction works had resumed, with L&T scheduled to begin work in Prakasam district within the next 15 days.
MAUD Minister clarified that the TIDCO houses were categorised into 300 sq. ft., 365 sq. ft., and 430 sq. ft. units, and that the previous YSRCP government had left the scheme stalled. 'Despite bank loans being raised, many beneficiary accounts had turned into Non-Performing Assets (NPAs). Upon taking office, our alliance government paid Rs 140 crore to the bankers and got the scheme back on track,' he said.
Narayana also revealed that the State is addressing the massive waste issue, with 85 lakh metric tons of garbage accumulated during the previous government's tenure. The government has already recycled 40 lakh tons and aims to clear the remaining waste by October 2. 'We are committed to providing safe drinking water, better sanitation, roads, and drainage facilities for urban citizens,' he said.
The Minister also stated that the government is focusing on road expansion projects in Ongole, compensating affected families through TDR bonds. Despite the state's financial challenges, Narayana confirmed that under the leadership of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, the government has been able to secure central funds to drive its welfare and development agenda.
'We remain focused on fulfilling our promises, with plans to launch Anna Canteens in rural areas soon and generate 20 lakh job opportunities for the youth by attracting industrial giants to the state,' Narayana added.

Minister instructs Karnataka's transport department to cancel auto permits, book cases for illegal fare charges

Bengaluru: Almost two weeks after public anguish over the exorbitant rise in auto fares following the ban on bike-taxi operations in the state, transport minister Ramalinga Reddy Saturday instructed the transport commissioner to take action against ride-hailing mobile apps and regular autos if they are found charging illegal fares. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Instructions have been given to transport department officials to cancel auto permits and book cases for illegal fare charges. Interestingly, the direction came from the minister hours after #stepdowntransportminister was trending on social media platform X over the ban on bike taxis. Ramalinga Reddy told TOI he himself has received complaints from the public over auto drivers and aggregators charging exorbitant fares. The letter addressed to the transport commissioner states that on June 18, 2025, the ride-hailing mobile app Rapido was charging Rs 100.9 per km. "This kind of daylight robbery is unpardonable and strict action should be taken," the letter states. Reddy cited ride-hailing apps as the reason for exorbitant fares being charged. "A majority of auto drivers have attached their vehicles with ride-hailing apps. These apps, instead of following fare rules of the govt, are charging higher auto fares and other fees," he said, adding: "Enforcement staff will identify irregularities and take action. No auto drivers should collect more fare from passenger." On the trending hashtag, the minister said, "We've acted against bike-taxi operations as per the high court order. On social media, people do make comments about the decision taken by authorities, I don't have much to say about that. Earlier, bike-taxi operations were illegally operated. It is to say that the state govt does not support illegal operations." Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Following the letter from the minister, transport commissioner Yogeesh AM told TOI that enforcement officials have been asked to act on the illegal collection of fares. "When customers street hail an auto, the driver should charge the fare as fixed by the regional transport authority. Ride-hailing apps can charge a 10% service tax in addition to the fares fixed by RTA. Other fees and charges on customers are illegal. " As per the last revision in 2022, RTA has fixed Rs 30 for the first 2km and Rs 15 per km thereafter Multiple fees make commuting expensive Ever since bike-taxis were banned in the city, mobile apps and auto drivers have been fleecing the general public without any regard for rules. In addition to paying a digital tip to lure auto drivers to accept the booking, the customers are forced to pay a congestion charge, pick-up fee, driver additional fee, and others. The digital tip just to book an auto ranges from Rs 10 to Rs 100. If a customer agrees to pay a lesser amount of tip, then a message pops up suggesting more tip to get an auto booked. Urban mobility expert Satya Arikutharam said, "It is basically unethical to force a passenger to pay a certain amount of tip while booking an auto. Usually, a customer pays the tip voluntarily after the delivery of the service; this is the custom everybody is accustomed to. What is happening here in the name of innovation is that aggregators are trying to become cheeky and creative. When I spoke to the drivers, they were unaware that aggregators are asking for the tip in their name. Union minister Pralhad Joshi has referred the case of advancing tipping to central consumer protection authority (CCPA) for investigation." He added aggregators not complying with the high court orders on charging fares for mobile-app-based services is a matter of concern.

Congress' Gogoi accuses Assam Govt of misusing dairy farming scheme funds, calls for PM's intervention

New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling for his 'attention' over the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the 'Assistance to Entrepreneur for Establishment of Commercial Dairy Farming (2022-23)' scheme in Assam, alleging that the ministers in the state cabinet were benefiting from it at the expense of genuine dairy farmers, thereby undermining the principles of 'fairness and transparency'. In his letter, the Congress MP alleged the inclusion of family members and associates of state ministers and MLAs as beneficiaries, while experienced dairy farmers, particularly from districts like Bongaigaon, have been reportedly excluded despite meeting eligibility criteria. 'I am writing to bring to your attention serious concerns regarding the implementation of the government supported scheme, 'Assistance to Entrepreneur for Establishment of Commercial Dairy Farming (2022-23)', in the state of Assam. This scheme receives substantial financial support from the Government of Assam. Each unit is eligible for up to Rs 50 lakh in subsidy. The objective is to promote genuine entrepreneurship in the dairy sector and strengthen milk production across the region. However, multiple reports and official documentation point to irregularities in the selection of beneficiaries,' the letter read. 'Several recipients of the scheme's benefits appear to be family members or associates of Ministers and MLAs in the state government, while long-standing dairy farmers, particularly in districts like Bongaigaon, have reportedly been overlooked despite having applied multiple times and fulfilling the eligibility requirements,' it added, highlighting a perceived bias in the selection process. The Congress leader further criticised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for 'justifying' the inclusion of ministers' family members, describing it as an 'open endorsement of political favouritism' that fuels public outrage and undermines constitutional values. 'Equally alarming is the response from the Chief Minister of Assam, who chose to justify the inclusion of ministers' family members in the list of dairy scheme beneficiaries. This open endorsement of political favouritism has fuelled public outrage for undermining the constitutional values of equality and justice. It also reflects a serious breach of the oath of office, which obliges public representatives to act impartially and in the public interest, casting doubt on the state government's adherence to ethical governance and the rule of law,' it further stated. Gogoi also pointed to the Gorukhuti agricultural project, funded with over Rs 5.5 crore in public money, alleging that high-yield Gir cows procured from Gujarat were allocated to elected representatives, including the firms owned by the wives of several ministers and MLAs. 'Official records indicate that these were allocated to several elected representatives, including the firm owned by the wife of Jayanta Malla Baruah (Cabinet Minister & MLA, Nalbari), Bhupen Pegu (MLA, Jonai), Utpal Borah (MLA, Gohpur), Diganta Kalita (MLA, Kamalpur), and Dilip Saikia (Member of Parliament). The diversion of resources and livestock under a project supported by over Rs 5.5 crore in public funds compromises the very objective of Government programs designed to promote inclusive development,' Gogoi noted. The letter calls for a review and an enquiry into the matter, urging the Prime Minister to ensure justice and restore public trust. 'Sir, these actions go against the very principles of transparency, accountability, and equitable access. If politically-connected individuals are allowed to siphon off benefits meant for the poor, we risk alienating the very people these schemes are meant to uplift. In the interest of justice and public trust, I urge your office to instruct the government to initiate an enquiry into the matter at the earliest,' Gogoi concluded. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah addressed the people via a video message during the foundation stone laying and inauguration ceremony of various projects at Govind Guru University in Vinzol, Godhra, Gujarat on Saturday, as per a release. According to the release, Union Minister Shah also inaugurated various development works and carried out a tree plantation drive in the Sanand Assembly constituency today. He also interacted with industrialists from the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC). The Home Minister also inaugurated a primary school in Juval, the newly constructed premises of the Adarora Seva Sahkari Mandali, and the Panchayat Bhawan in Phangdi village in Sanand. In his video message, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that today marks a momentous day in the history of Panchmahal. He recalled that as Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi had taken the initiative to establish a university in the name of the revered Govind Guru Ji, aiming to make it a center of inspiration for the youth of the nation, particularly tribal youth. He noted that in 2015, the university was founded in Gujarat to honour Govind Guru Ji, a legendary figure who fought valiantly against British rule. Shah highlighted that today, projects worth Rs 125 crore -- including a state-of-the-art sports complex and various other development works -- were either inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid. He further stated that Govind Guru Ji, born into the Vanzara community, had envisioned a separate Bhil region during colonial times and led a powerful resistance against the British, during which 1,512 tribal men and women laid down their lives. He said that this historic event earned Mangarh a distinguished place in the annals of India's freedom struggle. Amit Shah said that the movement led by Govind Guru Ji is now being carried forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. He said that in order to fulfil Prime Minister Modi's resolve of building a fully developed India by the year 2047, the youth and children must remain committed to this goal, the release added.
