Doors remain open for Faisal Halim case if new leads emerge, says Azalina
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) had found no evidence at present to warrant further action.
"Based on the A-GC's feedback, an investigation paper was opened by the police regarding the acid attack in Kota Damansara.
"The A-GC has reviewed the case based on the information and documents provided, but found that there is currently insufficient evidence to support any further legal action.
"However, unlike civil cases, criminal cases are not bound by a statute of limitations. Therefore, should new evidence come to light, the case may still be reopened for further investigation and review," she said in a written parliamentary reply.
She was responding to a question from Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden (PN–Alor Star), who sought clarification on the A-GC's decision to classify the investigation as "No Further Action" (NFA).
On May 5 last year, Faisal, the top scorer at the 2023 Asian Cup, reportedly sustained fourth-degree burns after an unidentified individual splashed acid on him.
As a result, the footballer, affectionately known as "Mickey", underwent multiple surgeries.
Faisal's legal team from Messrs. Mohd Ashraf, Nik Zarith & Co had previously announced plans to appeal to the A-G for the case to be reviewed and reopened following the police's decision to close the investigation.

The suspect was believed to have acted out of frustration over the baby's frequent crying. A post-mortem revealed multiple injuries across the body, particularly on the head. On July 31, it was reported that a baby girl was found unconscious on July 30 in a condominium in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras. She had bruises and a bluish complexion and was later pronounced dead. Police confirmed receiving a report from a man at 9.34pm, stating that his adopted daughter had been found unconscious at their residence for unknown reasons. The adoptive parents, aged 38 and 50, were arrested to assist in the investigation.

‘Shoddy work by cops' claim

Kota Kinabalu: The investigation paper submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers on the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir is incomplete, according to a joint statement by the family's legal counsels. 'In light of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement that the investigation paper concerning the death of Zara Qairina binti Mahathir ('Zara') has been submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers, we wish to clarify the following matters regarding the clothing and personal items Zara was wearing when she was found outside the school's hostel building at dawn on July 16, 2025. 'From July 17, until today, the police have never collected nor requested any of these items from our client for the purpose of investigation. 'Therefore, we believe that the investigation paper submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers is incomplete,' according to Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri who represented Zara's mother. According to them, all of Zara's clothing and belongings were handed over to her mother by hospital staff on July 16. These items, they said, are currently in the custody of a representative of a non-governmental organisation (NGO), who has been officially appointed as the sole representative of Zara's mother. 'We are deeply shocked by this, as in our experience handling criminal trials in court, it is standard procedure for police to seize all items worn by a victim suspected of having died as a result of any criminal act, for the purpose of investigation. 'These clothes and personal effects are crucial pieces of evidence that should have been forensically examined and analysed to determine whether Zara's death involved any criminal elements,' said the counsels. They added that the police's failure to do so raises serious concerns as to whether the investigation has been limited solely to the theories of sudden death or suicide despite multiple police reports lodged by Zara's mother requesting investigation into possible criminal elements in her daughter's death. 'Furthermore, no post-mortem was conducted prior to Zara's burial. Two Malaysians die in separate incidents in Thailand's Yala province: One collapses at bike event, one in road crash
YALA, Aug 3 — The Malaysian Consulate General in Songkhla has confirmed that two Malaysian citizens have died in Yala province yesterday in two separate incidents. According to a consular statement, the first case involved a 56-year-old Malaysian male from Kedah who died in Betong, while the second case involved a 47-year-old male from Penang who died in an accident in Yaha district. Chief Investigation Officer of Betong Police, Inspector Pornchai Shunual, informed that the 56-year-old victim entered Betong with his wife on Aug 1 to take part in a programme called 'OK BETONG Bike Week'. 'According to his wife, the victim collapsed in a toilet during a rest break and was unconscious before being rushed to Betong Hospital, but was pronounced dead about half an hour later,' he told reporters here, today. A post-mortem by the hospital has confirmed that the victim had died suddenly and no foul play was detected. The Thai Royal Police allowed the deceased's next-of-kin to claim his body to be returned to Kulim with help from the Malaysian Consulate General in Songkhla. Meanwhile, in the second case, the Malaysian Consulate General reported that the Malaysian man died when a superbike he was riding was believed to have collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle belonging to a local in Yala district, yesterday evening. The victim reportedly sustained serious injuries in the head. His remains have been brought from Yaha Hospital to Sadao Hospital, Songkhla, for temporary storage before claiming by his next-of-kin to be returned to Penang. — Bernama
