Hunter Biden responded to CNN anchor Jake Tapper's comments earlier this year that Hunter Biden had outsize influence in his father's White House.
Flashback: "I think Hunter was driving the decision-making for the family," Tapper had said in May while promoting a book he co-wrote with Axios' Alex Thompson. "He was almost like a chief of staff."

"He didn't do the right thing. And to say something that is so patently untrue in order to justify what you did afterwards… is cowardly, is weak."

The Democratic Party's reaction to the debate
Hunter Biden said that the Democratic Party "elite" overreacted to his father's debate performance.
"That debate was awful," Hunter Biden told Harrison. "But we could have survived if it weren't for the fact that people in the Democratic Party — the inside elite Beltway group of people — were not going to allow it to happen.
"We watched Joe Biden turn 80 and 81 and then 82. We watched him get old in front of our eyes... That does not mean that you're incapacitated."
He blasted Democratic media personalities, including David Axelrod, James Carville and the hosts of Pod Save America, for their comments on Joe Biden's viability as a candidate during his interview with Callaghan.
Ambien
Hunter Biden blamed Ambien for his father's debate performance.
"He flew around the world, basically the mileage he could have flown around the world three times. He's 81 years old. He's tired as sh--t," he told Callaghan.
"They give him Ambien to be able to sleep," he said of the prescription sedative used to treat insomnia. "He gets up on the stage, and he looks like he's a deer in the headlights."
Trump's cocaine in the White House probe
Hunter Biden denied that a bag of cocaine found in the White House in 2023 was his.
"I have been clean and sober since June of 2019. I have not touched a drop of alcohol or a drug, and I'm incredibly proud of that," he told Callaghan.
"Why would I bring cocaine into the White House and stick it into a cubby outside of the situation room in the West Wing?"

Democrats defy calls to remain neutral, endorse Tiara Ross for Columbus Council D7 seat
Despite calls from some within and outside the party to stay neutral, the Franklin County Democratic Party has endorsed Tiara Ross over fellow Democrat Jesse Vogel in the Columbus City Council District 7 race on the Nov. 5 ballot. After tense debate at a packed meeting on July 22, eligible party members voted 106-48 by a show of hands to endorse Ross ahead of the Nov. 4 election. During the meeting, Vogel and multiple party members reiterated their plea for the party not to endorse either candidate. Voters want a choice on the ballot, Vogel said. 'If this party gets involved in endorsing in this race, it will send a message to Democrats that they don't have a choice and it will hamper our ability to continue the hard work to mobilize voters across the city,' Vogel said. An open letter circulated ahead of the meeting called for the county Democratic party to stay out of endorsing in the District 7 council race and got more than 600 signatures, mostly from ordinary voters. Some of the opponents to endorsement packed into the meeting at the IBEW 683 Union Hall, in addition to Ross supporters. Ross said she would be proud to accept an endorsement. 'I'm asking for you to stand with the candidate who has taken on powerful interests and won,' Ross said ahead of the debate and vote. 'I'm ready for Columbus City Council because I believe in a city that has leaders who will roll up their sleeves and do the work.' Vogel, a public interest attorney, is more of an outsider to the party establishment than Ross. Heading into the meeting, Ross already had endorsements from a bevy of powerful local Democrats, including the entire city council, Mayor Andrew J. Ginther, and City Attorney Zach Klein. Klein spoke at the meeting in favor of endorsing Ross, an assistant Columbus city attorney. He said she's been a strong advocate for tenants and criminal justice reform. The party's screening committee recommended Ross, based on her experience in city government. It was not a unanimous committee decision, said Screening Committee Chair Gretchen James. Ross narrowly beat Vogel in the citywide May primary 41% to 39% by about 700 votes. Meanwhile, Vogel won in the district they're vying to represent 49% to 31%, according to a Dispatch analysis. They knocked independent candidate Kate Curry-Da-Souza out of the race. All city residents vote in all nine council districts under an unusual district system the city launched in 2023. Candidates must live in their geographic districts. The county party has no policy in its bylaws about when to endorse in a race between Democrats, said Brian Shinn, the county party's parliamentarian. He told The Dispatch before the meeting that not having a policy gives the party flexibility. During the meeting, opponents to endorsement repeatedly said staying neutral would encourage voter turnout and engagement. A few also mentioned Ross' driving record. In March, it was discovered that Ross had been driving on a suspended license for a speeding ticket and had nearly $3,800 in unpaid city parking tickets. Ross supporters said she has earned a spot on the city council, noting she won the primary. Ross told The Dispatch after the meeting that she's "truly honored to have the support of the party." "I'm disappointed," Vogel told The Dispatch after the meeting. "Tonight we saw political insiders and elected incumbents support the status quo." New photos and footage of Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein have been unearthed offering fresh insight into the pair's relationship despite the president's repeated attempts to distance himself. Epstein and Trump appear in a number of pictures surfaced by CNN and aired Tuesday night. Among them are images showing Epstein as a guest at the president's wedding to Marla Maples. CNN's KFILE uncovered two photos showing the disgraced financier at Trump's December 1993 wedding at the Plaza Hotel in New York. It also obtained footage from a 1999 Victoria's Secret runway event in New York, showing Trump, accompanied by his future wife Melania Trump, chatting to Epstein.

Omar calls GOP ‘pedophile protection party' for dodging Epstein votes
Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) on Tuesday slammed the GOP for dodging a vote that would call for the release of files related to deceased financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Republican leaders this week scrapped their legislative plans and headed early into a long summer recess — all to avoid votes on the Epstein saga. However, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has insisted the move was not intended to shield Republicans from tough Epstein votes — or protect Trump from potentially embarrassing disclosures — but to end the Democrats' 'political games.' 'The pedophile protection party is shutting down Congress just to avoid voting on the release of the Epstein files,' Omar wrote in a post on X in response to the move. Last week, GOP lawmakers killed a vote backed by Democrats attempting to force the release of Epstein's files. It failed 211-210 along party lines. 'The American people are best served by putting an end to Democrats' side shows. We will not stop fighting until the Epstein Files are released. Trump and Bondi must stop blocking the American people from the truth,' House Oversight Democrats wrote on the social platform X after the vote. On Tuesday, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche also said in a statement that he has communicated with Maxwell's counsel 'to determine whether she would be willing to speak with prosecutors from the Department.' 'I anticipate meeting with Ms. Maxwell in the coming days,' Blanche said. 'Until now, no administration on behalf of the Department had inquired about her willingness to meet with the government. That changes now.'
