MSU target, PG Carlos Medlock Jr. is becoming one of fastest risers on recruiting trail

A prospect Michigan State basketball identified early in the recruiting process is becoming one of the fastest risers this summer.
Carlos Medlock Jr. of Branson, Mo. picked up an offer from the Spartans in mid-June and has quickly risen up the recruiting boards with strong summer play on the circuits. Medlock -- who is originally from Michigan but recently transferred to Link Academy in Missouri -- shot up the recruiting rankings recently, now sitting as a four-star prospect. When Michigan State offered him last month, Medlock was a three-star prospect.
Medlock now ranks as the No. 9 point guard and No. 104 player in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 class. For some perspective, on June 16 when he picked up his Spartans offer, he ranked as the No. 26 point guard in the class.
Michigan State was Medlock's first power conference offer, with Michigan and Oklahoma State following the Spartans' suit since then, per 247Sports. It should come as no surprise that Tom Izzo and his staff was able to identify a top talent before others did, and hopefully that will give Michigan State an edge in this now heated battle for a premier talent in the 2026 class.

Iowa football 2025 schedule preview: Week 3 vs UMass

Following a tough challenge on the road against Iowa State, the Hawkeyes will return home to Kinnick Stadium in Week 3 for their final non-conference game of the 2025 season. The UMass Minutemen will make the trip over to Iowa City to try and steal a big road win. It won't be easy for them, as they've been one of the worst FBS football schools over the past decade. UMass hasn't won more than four games in a season since it joined the FBS in 2012. They're 6-46 since the 2019 season and have struggled to gain any traction over the past decade and a half. They're currently coached by Joe Harasymiak, who was hired in December to be the 32nd head football coach in the program's history. UMass plays its home games at Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Hadley, Massachusetts. It's going to take a lot of things going right for UMass to pull off the upset. For starters, they'll have to lean on some solid veterans returning for the 2025 season. Who are some of the key returners for UMass? Who are some exciting newcomers for the Minuteman? History between the Hawkeyes and Minutemen Iowa and UMass have never faced each other in football before, so the winner of this Week 3 matchup will hold the edge in this matchup for a while. It's a game the Hawkeyes should win, but that doesn't mean Iowa fans should pencil in a win just yet. They'll need to go out and take care of business to set themselves up in a good spot entering Big Ten conference play. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on September 13. Former Nebraska basketball player Keisei Tominaga drops 12 points in the NBA Summer League

A former Husker put together his first double-digit outing in his final game of the NBA Summer League. Keisei Tominaga delivered 12 points for the Indiana Pacers in his first start of the Summer League. Tominaga played for just 19 minutes in the Pacers' 113-104 win over the New Orleans Pelicans but made substantial efforts to close out the tournament with a solid performance. He shot 4-of-13 from the floor, 2-of-8 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. Tominaga had previously played in only two games for Indiana in the Summer League, accumulating three points in 15 total minutes of play. Indiana concludes the Summer League with a 3-2 record, missing out on the Summer League playoffs. Tominaga was picked up by the Pacers in 2024 after playing three seasons at Nebraska. He then appeared in 14 games with the Indiana Mad Ants, the Pacers' G League affiliate, before being called up to play in the Summer League. In his three seasons with the Huskers, Tominaga scored 1,074 points and finished seventh in school history for career 3-pointers, with 178 made. In his final season with the Huskers, he averaged 15.1 points per game, helping the team to a 23-11 record and a third-place Big Ten finish. $500k move may be first step to clearing $57 million, former All-Pro from Cowboys' books

When the Dallas Cowboys signed All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs to a five-year, $97 million extension in July of 2023, it was initially hailed as a big win for the franchise. After logging 14 interceptions over the previous two seasons, some speculated Diggs would reset the cornerback market as an elite ballhawk and generational playmaker. Yet the Cowboys kept in line with current market values, proactively inking Diggs to a team friendly contract at a time Dallas' contracts lacked both timeliness and thriftiness. With negotiations approaching for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, it was good for the Cowboys to get one in the win column before all the deadlines backed them into a corner. Diggs' deal included over $43 million in total guarantees but came with escape hatch following the 2025 season if things went south. Low and behold things did go south for Diggs and the Cowboys might have just taken their first step in their approach to move away from Diggs and the $57 million he's owed from 2026 onward. The Cowboys are reportedly planning to withhold $500,000 in base salary after Diggs failed to complete at least 84 percent of his offseason workouts with the team over the offseason. This isn't the first time Diggs' commitment to rehab was called into question. Just this spring Jerry Jones offered some rather pointed comments regarding Diggs' approach to his previous rehab. Since signing his $97 million extension two summers ago, Diggs has played in just 13 games. He played just two regular seasons games before falling to a season ending ACL injury in 2023 and he played in just 11 games in his return to the field a season later. His most recent surgery, a chondral tissue graft, is a form of microfracture surgery that involves an uncertain timeline and uncertain final prognosis. It's unknown how much time he'll miss in 2025, or if being 100% is even an option anymore. His medical situation coupled with his absenteeism probably isn't doing him many favors in the Cowboys front office these days. Recouping half a million dollars is sure to ruffle some feathers in Diggs' camp. It could serve as a wake-up call to the 26-year-old, or it could drive a wedge between the two parties. With fellow All-Pro CB DaRon Bland set to hit free agency in 2026, it was always going to be difficult to pay both star CBs high-end money. The Cowboys could be gearing up to cut Diggs and re-up with Bland over the offseason. Cutting Diggs in 2026 would give them $12,558,822 in cap savings next year. It's money that could either get immediately invested in Bland or money that could be moved into a different direction entirely. A lot can change between now and next offseason, but for Diggs this looks like the first step to a final season with the Cowboys.
