Residency Road white-topping will throw Bengaluru's central business district traffic out of gear
The work is anticipated to cause major congestion in the central business district (CBD), affecting Residency Road, Richmond Road, Convent Road, St Mark's Road, Anil Kumble Circle, Nanjappa Circle, Hosur Road, and surrounding areas. Vehicle users are advised to plan alternative routes and allow for extra travel time.
Evidence of the disruption was already seen last weekend when the CBD experienced heavy traffic congestion during rain on Saturday evening, with vehicles stuck for several minutes.
Slow-moving traffic continued on Sunday evening as well.
BBMP decided to undertake white-topping after the stretch, previously built under the TenderSure project, suffered from waterlogging and developed multiple potholes.
Traffic police have issued an advisory about traffic arrangements to ensure smooth vehicular flow in and around the affected areas. A senior police officer explained the timing of the project: "The area has many schools.

Permission was given to BBMP to carry out work because schools were on summer vacation. The timing was specifically chosen to prevent disruption to students."
Allaying concerns about potential delays affecting school-goers and worsening traffic in the area, M Lokesh, chief engineer (projects), said: "We plan to finish the work in 10-15 days. We'll definitely stick to the deadline."
Ashok Nagar traffic inspector Seema VS has taken proactive measures to expedite the work.
For example, she has asked that cement loads be increased so that work can be completed quickly, giving time for curing and other related activities. The inspector has also arranged for doubling the workforce on the project, ensuring 24x7 operations. Permission was granted only after reviewing the day-to-day work progress plan, with clear terms and conditions documented.
One condition stipulates that a BBMP engineer must be present at the workplace at all times.
Also, police, quoting IMD, said showers are expected only for the next couple of days, and the project won't face any rain-related delays.
In case BBMP requires additional time to complete white-topping work at the junction, police will only permit work from Saturday night through Sunday, with the road to be reopened to traffic by Monday morning.

VMC panel to relocate street vendors after closure of night market
1 2 Varanasi: The Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) has established a committee to identify and relocate street vendors from the night market beneath the Lahartara Chowkaghat flyover to designated vending zones. The night market, a significant initiative by PM Narendra Modi in his Parliamentary constituency, ceased operations on July 4, merely three years after its inauguration. The establishment, part of the Varanasi Smart City project, had commenced operations on July 7, 2022, under the Lahartara-Chowkaghat flyover. Municipal Commissioner Akshat Verma issued an official notice stating that vendors beneath the Lahartara Chowkaghat flyover underwent multiple identification and verification processes, with records maintained by Varanasi Smart City Limited. The shops were dismantled on July 4 following contract termination. The newly formed committee comprising Jitendra Anand (zonal officer, Varunapar), joint municipal commissioner, district project officer from urban development agency, and chief engineer from Varanasi Smart City Ltd will identify legitimate vendors and allocate them spaces in accordance with the Street Vendors Act-2014. The directive takes immediate effect, requiring documentation and notification to relevant parties. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like O que é ar-condicionado sem dutos no Brasil? It came up on a 1.9Km stretch under the flyover, featuring thematic wall art, public amenities, and spaces for recreation. According to authorities, an agreement was made with Shreya Company to operate the night market, but due to its failure to meet specified standards and violation of conditions, several notices were issued. Despite this, non-compliance led to the cancellation of Shreya Company's contract, rendering all shops illegal. The municipal corporation previously issued notices to vacate all shops. Even after the notice, shopkeepers did not vacate the premises. Authorities noted reports of improper activities occurring between Cantt Railway Station and the bus station, alongside hygiene issues and traffic disruptions. The administration announced enforcement actions following a 48-hour notice period.

Ahead of Shrawan, fees for KV temple priest services likely to be revised
1 2 Varanasi: A priest would definitely get anything between Rs 800 and Rs 1,100 for performing Rudrabhishek anywhere else, but at Kashi Vishwanath Dham, which has undergone a grand rejuvenation, a priest receives just Rs 150 for performing the ritual. This rate has remained unchanged since 2014. Vendors supplying worship material for rituals said the price of a 'thaal' (plate) was fixed at Rs 65 in 2014 and it has not been revised so far. However, now it seems that priests and vendors would start getting a decent payment as divisional commissioner S Rajalingam has asked for a proposal to revise the fees and the price of a 'puja thaal'. The divisional commissioner chaired a coordination meeting hosted by Kashi Vishwanath Dham authorities with all stakeholders at the board room on Sunday evening to discuss preparations for the Shravan month of 2025. During the meeting, the concerns of priests and 'puja thaal' vendors were presented. The priests informed him that they receive only Rs 150 for Rudrabhishek ritual. When TOI inquired about the minimum fee charged by an individual ritualist performing rituals independently, senior ritualists and priests of the holy city stated that even junior priests, who assist 'acharyas' (chief ritualists at events like Rudrabhishek), are currently receiving between Rs 800 and Rs 1,100. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why seniors are rushing to get this Internet box – here's why! Techno Mag Learn More Undo They mentioned that this fee is given to individuals apart from donations, which depend on the wishes of the 'jajman' (the person who organises any ritual at their preferred place). The 'puja thali' vendors highlighted their problems, mentioning that the price of a worship plate is only Rs 65, which results in providing worship material in limited quantities. This often leads to dissatisfaction among devotees, who then question the vendors and priests about it. Chief executive officer Vishwa Bhushan Mishra said that the rates for performing rituals like Rudrabhishek and 'puja thaal' were set in 2014 and have not been revised. As a result, payments to vendors and priests were done at the old rates. Taking a serious note of the situation, the divisional commissioner asked the temple administration to present a proposal comprising details of changes in the cost of living and increase in the price of 'puja' material over the past 11 years. He assured that once such a proposal is tabled, an appropriate decision would be initiated. The stakeholders, including shopkeepers, security and cleaning agencies, guest houses, refreshment centres and other institutions operating in the area, apprised the officials of the issues they face during large gatherings on major festivals such as the Shravan month, its Mondays, Rangbhari Ekadashi and Mahashivratri. These issues include transportation and the non-accessibility of devotees to shops. Officials were assigned to study the issue for a proper solution through coordination with all parties.
