Pakistani couple trying to enter India die of dehydration in desert, Jaisalmer police say
Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Sudheer Chaudhary said that on Saturday, the Tanot Police Station received an information about two unidentified bodies found approximately 15 kilometers inside the Indian border. A police team rushed to the location and found the body of a man under a tree. He was dressed in a sky blue salwar-kurta and a yellow scarf and a mobile phone were recovered from the site.
About 50 feet away, the body of a woman was also found. She was wearing a yellow ghaghra-kurta and had red-and-white bangles on her wrists. Both bodies were lying face-down and appeared to have been dead for 8–10 days. Due to advanced decomposition, their bodies had turned black and their faces were unrecognizable. Initial investigations suggest the couple likely died of dehydration.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, on the instructions of SP Chaudhary, an FSL team, MOB team and Jaisalmer Circle Officer reached the spot. The teams conducted a detailed inspection, including photography and videography of the area and the bodies.
Two Pakistani national identity cards were recovered from the man's clothing. One identified him as Ravi Kumar (17), son of Dewan Jee, while the second identified the woman as Shanti Bai (15), daughter of Guloo Ji. Both cards mentioned 'Pakistan' and had Urdu text on the reverse side.
According to Dilip Singh Sodha, district coordinator of Hindu Pakistani Displaced Union and Border People's Organisation while talking to The Indian Express said that the organisation contacted a distant relative of the couple in India who told them, 'The man had some disagreement with his father. So, he left home with his wife. The couple were residents of Sindh province in Pakistan which is 60-kms from the Indian border. They had applied for an Indian visa around 1.5 years back but their visa was not approved. After the fight, the couple moved towards India as they knew it was their ultimate destination.'
'He wanted to live in India. He somehow entered Indian territory but unfortunately died in the hope of a better life,' said Sodha, who circulated the details of the ID cards on social media and came in contact with the boy's relatives in Jaisalmer, who confirmed his identity.
Hindu Pakistani Displaced Union is an advocacy group for the rights of Pakistani minority migrants in India.
Jaisalmer Circle officer Roop Singh Inda said that the police have sought information from the local foreigners registration office (FRO) in Jaisalmer on the boy's visa application.
'We have not received details about it so far,' Inda said. 'The matter is being investigated further,' he said.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the bodies can't be sent to Pakistan. Hence, the Hindu Pakistani Displaced Union will perform the cremation. The bodies have been kept at the Community Health Centre, Ramgarh mortuary after post-mortem. —With PTI inputs

Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Infra, Reliance Power clarify on SBI's action against Reliance Communications' loan account
Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group (ADAG) stocks — Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Power — issued a clarification of a similar nature to the exchanges that the action by the State Bank of India (SBI) on the Reliance Communications loan account is unlikely to have any impact on them. Their statements came after India's biggest bank, SBI, classified the loan account of insolvent Reliance Communications as fraudulent, citing alleged diversion of funds in a case dating back to 2016. According to Indian banking laws, once an account is reported as a fraud, the matter is referred to enforcement agencies for criminal action, and the borrower is barred from securing further finance from banks and other institutions for at least five years. Reliance Communications disclosed that its total debt stood at ₹ 40,400 crore ($4.71 billion) in March, according to a Reuters report. SBI's letter also said it would report Anil Ambani, the director at Reliance Communications, to the Reserve Bank of India, in compliance with Indian banking regulations. Ambani is pursuing the matter as legally advised, a spokesperson for Reliance Communications said on Wednesday. Against this backdrop, both companies claimed that SBI's action will have "absolutely no impact on business operations, financial performance, shareholders, employees, or any other stakeholders".

Indian-origin man arrested for mid-air brawl on US flight, claims he was meditating
An Indian-origin man has been arrested in the United States after a mid-air fight on a Frontier Airlines flight led to chaos in the cabin. The accused, identified as 21-year-old Ishaan Sharma, allegedly attacked a fellow passenger 'without provocation,' leading to his arrest upon landing in Miami. According to a report by ABC News, the incident occurred aboard a Frontier flight headed to Miami International Airport, where the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office responded to reports of an onboard assault. The arrest affidavit notes that Sharma approached the victim and grabbed him by the neck while returning to his assigned seat, triggering a physical fight. Videos from the flight, now circulating on social media, show the two men engaged in a violent fistfight as shocked passengers screamed for them to stop. Sharma sustained a laceration above his left eyebrow, which required medical assistance. The victim, who suffered minor injuries, declined treatment. Eyewitnesses told local media that after the brawl, Sharma was seen grinning, mumbling to himself, and taking selfies of his bloodied face, as cabin crew attempted to restore calm. He was taken into custody after being cleared by doctors at Jackson West Hospital and later transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Sharma was formally charged with battery, and his bond has been set at $500. In a surprising turn, Sharma's lawyer claimed in court that the incident began while Sharma was 'meditating' as part of his religious practice. 'My client is from a religion where he was meditating. Unfortunately, the passenger behind him did not like that,' said defence attorney Renee Gordon, as reported by the Daily Mail. However, the explanation failed to convince Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Gerald Hubbart, who imposed strict restrictions. Sharma has been barred from contacting the victim, either personally or online, and must maintain a 500-foot distance from the victim's home, school, or workplace. Authorities have yet to determine a clear motive for the in-flight assault, and the investigation is ongoing.

72 Hours After MNS Workers Slap Mumbai Shopkeeper, Cops To Question Accused
Mumbai: Over 72 hours after a Mumbai shopkeeper was assaulted for not speaking in Marathi - his ordeal filmed and circulated online by the assailants - and over 24 hours after the FIR was filed, the police will finally record the statements of the accused, sources told NDTV Thursday morning. The seven men - members of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, which has refused to apologise for the assault - will be deposed at the Deputy Commissioner of Police's office. It is unclear if they will be taken into custody after their statements are recorded. Action against the accused - the first concrete step in what has been dubbed the 'MNS slapgate' case - comes after sustained pressure by NDTV, and demands for justice for 48-year-old Babulal Khimji Chaudhary, the owner of the 'Jodhpur Sweet Shop' in Mumbai's Mira Road suburb. The video of the awful assault, which took place past 10.30 pm Sunday and has been widely shared online - showed the MNS goons surrounding Chaudhary and threatening him with worse action, including forcibly shutting down his business, if his staff and he don't speak in Marathi. Bagharam, a migrant worker from Rajasthan, spoke to NDTV after the assault. He said the MNS thugs wanted to buy bottles of water but when he spoke to them in Hindi, they demanded he speak in Marathi. "I said we speak all languages, so they threatened to beat me up..." The thugs then accosted Chaudhary and attacked him. READ | "Said Have To Speak In Marathi": Man Threatened By Raj Thackeray Party Workers As horrific as the assault was, the matter was compounded after the MNS - ironically leading a protest against the 'imposition of Hindi' in the state - refused to apologise to Chaudhary. The party accused Chaudhary of being 'arrogant'. It said he had provoked his attackers by stating that all languages are spoken in Maharashtra, a statement that is correct. Experts have pointed out every Indian has the right to speak the language of their choice, a right primarily protected by Article 19 of the Constitution, which esures freedom of speech and expression. The party has also complained because seven men were named in the FIR names, while the video shows only three hitting Chaudhary. Meanwhile, Babulal Chaudhary, whose business has been flourishing on Mira Road for the past two decades, told NDTV he would fight to ensure the MNS goons are held to account. "Mumbai is my 'karmabhoomi'... but now I am living in fear. I want safety, I want to feel safe," he said. Chaudhary - who intends to hold a protest march despite an ominous 'warning' from the MNS - has been backed by fellow traders, many of whom shut shops for the day to signal their support.
