Pindi's tehsils set for grand makeover
The plan involves door-to-door waste collection, followed by waste dumping, landfills, and then waste-to-energy processes. Additionally, 10,500 new employees have been recruited in the Rawalpindi Division alone, with a total of 125,000 jobs being created across Punjab.
So far, 90,000 positions have been filled. The Suthra Punjab Programme has also contributed to business growth and employment in sectors like IT, textiles, manufacturing, and others.
Addressing the launch ceremony of the Suthra Punjab Programme in the Rawalpindi Division, Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Punjab Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique, and Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema shared their thoughts.
Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, speaking on the occasion, said, "Ask us about our performance – how we ended defaults and load shedding, how we reduced inflation to the lowest level, how we increased exports, and how we developed health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and other sectors. Don't ask us about creating chaos and disorder."
"We are bringing metro services to Gujranwala and Faisalabad, and introducing 550 electric buses in Punjab. 27 buses have already reached Lahore, with Rawalpindi receiving a significant share, she further said, adding the Punjab government was investing Rs40 billion in water supply projects in Rawalpindi.
"The issue of Nullah Leh is being addressed and the incomplete Mother and Child Hospital project, abandoned by previous administrators, will now be completed by December this year under the name of Children's Hospital, the minister added.
Ms Aurangzeb further said that additionally, 500,000 citizens were receiving medicines at their homes, and all primary healthcare centres and hospitals were being revamped and upgraded. "Lady Health Inspectors will now reach people's homes."
Minister Zeeshan Rafique said that the Suthra Punjab Programme would create 125,000 jobs across the province, adding 90,000 had already been filled.
"Monitoring of this programme is being done digitally. By introducing e-tendering in Punjab, we are ensuring transparency. This program will generate billions in business for other sectors. All 56 companies involved in the Suthra Punjab Programme are local companies," he added.
Rawalpindi DC Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema said that a grievance redressal system had been set up for the public, encouraging the people to make Suthra Punjab Programme a success so that they could live in a cleaner, healthier environment.

Govt hospitals to stop accepting health card
The Punjab government has informed the administrations of government hospitals in the province that no health card claim will be accepted after Monday. The hospital administrations across the province have been instructed to submit their claims by June 30. However, Punjab Specialised Healthcare Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique declared in a statement that the government had recently paid Rs22 billion for medicines provided in its hospitals during the past five years and the health insurance programme for the people would continue. He said the discontinuation of the Sehat Card in government hospitals would not have any impact on providing free treatment to the people. The minister said the decision to limit the Sehat Card to private hospitals had been taken for the benefit of the people and sustainability of the healthcare system. He said the shortage of funds for the health insurance programme in government hospitals would be met by the Specialised healthcare and medical education department.

NICVD boss dismisses corruption charges
Professor Tahir Saghir, Executive Director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), has denied allegations of financial irregularities, claiming that the institute operates with full transparency and a commitment to public service. Speaking to The Express Tribune, Prof. Saghir said that the NICVD provides free treatment to over 2,000 patients daily, including 35-40 emergency angioplasties, alongside 1,000-1,200 emergency cases and 800-1,000 OPD visits. "This is a high-volume centre, and our teams work day and night to serve patients," he added. About corruption charges, Prof Saghir clarified that the NICVD undergoes both government and private audits annually. While audit objections are routine, he said that all queries are responded to with detailed explanations. He highlighted procurement reforms, saying that previously only 20-30% of medical supplies were acquired through tenders, whereas now over 90% of purchases are processed via the Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) digital system, minimising human intervention. "This data is also shared with international bodies, including the IMF," he added. Refuting a human rights report alleging Rs40 billion in corruption, Prof Saghir pointed out that the NICVD's total annual budget is only Rs9 billion. "Where did the extra Rs31 billion come from? Yet, surgeries and medicines continued uninterrupted," he questioned, terming the accusations baseless and malicious. He cited Sindh government recognition of the institute's performance, which led to an increased budget after NICVD saved Rs1 billion last year, followed by an additional Rs2 billion allocation. Prof Saghir provided an example of emergency decision-making, explaining that when the main A/C unit in the emergency ward failed, the administration hired temporary cooling systems for Rs200,000-250,000 to ensure patient comfort, bypassing lengthy tender procedures.

Minister pays surprise visit to LGH
LAHORE: On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb paid a surprise visit to the Lahore General Hospital (LGH), to personally asses on ground position in the LGH. Disguised as an ordinary citizen and wearing a mask, Senior Provincial Minister inspected various wards and departments of the hospital. During the visit, the senior minister conducted a detailed inspection of the hospital's emergency ward, medical ward, gynaecology ward, and labour room.
