‘Big' Sam Young and partner Grace Chen are opening a Chinese restaurant in Potts Point

If you're not following chef-owner-restaurateur-lobster-enthusiast 'Big' Sam Young on Instagram, what have you been doing? The co-owner of Castlecrag's luxe bistro S'more – known for its top-quality produce, bougie offerings and truffle-on-everything energy – posts non-stop pictures of delicious food and private dinners at multi-million-dollar homes. He's also prolific when it comes to being a hustler, which comes from his lived experience of moving to Australia from Hong Kong at 13 – only to have everything, including his passport and money, stolen days later. Being an immigrant and working hard has shaped his ethos. Now, he and partner Grace Chen are opening their second venue dedicated to that journey: a Chinese restaurant called Young's Palace, opening this August in the excellent former home of Raja and Teddy on Kellett Street in Potts Point. 'We've been sold this outdated image of immigrant-run restaurants as cheap, fast and scrappy. That was survival. But now, we want to tell a new story – one that honours hard work but also values quality, creativity and pride,' Sam says, who has also spent time in the kitchens of Queen Chow and Lotus. Young's Palace is also inspired by the couple's travels – particularly the Chinatowns they've explored in cities like Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Vancouver and Sydney. 'Grace and I always find ourselves hunting down a plate of fried rice or chow mein, no matter where we are in the world. Young's Palace is about recreating that joy – classic Chinese dishes that are simple, comforting and utterly craveable,' says Sam. Sam says don't expect laminated menus with a hundred-plus options, fluorescent lighting or any compromise on quality for convenience. And absolutely no modern Asian-fusion. What you can expect, however, are two menus: one with nostalgic crowd favourites – think sweet and sour pork, honey king prawns, General Tao's chicken and lemon chicken – and the 'Chairman's Menu', which is BSY to a T: luxe dishes like lobster, giant mud crab and claypot abalone rice crowned with truffles and caviar. 'There's no reason a bowl of noodles can't be treated with the same respect and price tag as a plate of pasta. We're not here to follow rules. We're here to create something we're proud of,' adds Sam. See you there later this year!

Zayn Malik recalls the racism he experienced at height of One Direction fame

Zayn Malik has addressed the racism he experienced during his time in One Direction in a teaser for his new single labelled Fuchsia Sea, as he shared a few lyrics on Instagram In a preview of his upcoming song, Fuchsia Sea, Zayn Malik has addressed the racism he experienced during his time in One Direction. The 32-year-old British singer gave fans a first listen to the new track on Saturday along with a short video. Zayn shot to fame as a member of One Direction, performing alongside Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and the late Liam Payne. They skyrocketed into fame after appearing on X-Factor in 2010 before he parted ways in 2015. ‌ In the new song, Zayn raps: 'Got my back against the wall so much they think I got a brick fascination. Do you remember every conversation? 'Cause I have been conscious of every connotation. And while they concentrate on their elevation, I've got a round trip to the constellation. I'm a convert to the concert, and I did that for inflation, 'cause I worked hard in a White band, and they still laughed at the Asian.' ‌ The singer shared a snippet of the song on Instagram, along with a video where he has his back to the camera as he is walking down a corridor. He also typed the lyrics in an Instagram story. The father-of-one, who shares four-year-old daughter Khai with ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid, has also addressed racism in music in the past. In a leaked song called Yellow Metal (Cathartic), Zayn wrote the lyrics: 'Said I had a problem with hittin' the kids that would call me paki, still sittin' in classroom chillin', I'm angry now that I'm older 'cause I see they treat us different, Got me thinking I'm the problem 'cause they never dealt with these issues'. The singer also wrote: 'Twenty years later, I'm still in the same boat, tryna treat me like my grandpa, say I came up off the boat.' 5 years after One Direction was formed via The X Factor in 2010, Zayn decided to go his separate ways and said he wanted to be a 'normal' 22-year-old' and take some time away from the spotlight. ‌ He announced the news via the group's Facebook page and wrote: 'I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band,' he said in a statement. Zayn added: 'I'd like to apologize to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall.' ‌ Elsewhere in Zayn's life, he previously opened up about his daughter Khai and said that she 'brought him back to life'. Speaking on the Zach Sang Show, he said: 'I feel like my daughter brought that colour back in my life. She just makes me happy. I have so much love in me that I didn't have before she was born. "She laughs all day. She wants to do the silliest things and she gains so much excitement from it. She just has a whole fresh perspective on life that had somewhat become grey for me." Zayn continued: "She's a force of nature. She's given me maturity. She's forced my sensibility to become this mature father for her, this good responsible role model that takes accountability for their actions and sticks to their work and proves that my word is bond."

Coronation Street confirms unexpected flashback twist as the past is revisited

There's a huge mystery in upcoming Coronation Street episodes. Why did Gary Windass (Mikey North) end up in a coma in hospital after apparently vanishing into thin air? And why does the woman who's with him insist his name is Chesney? And does Gary's current predicament have anything to do with the night of Aadi (Adam Hussain)'s party, when Nina (Mollie Gallagher) and Summer (Harriet Bibby) became convinced they'd seen a dead body? Maria (Samia Longchambon) has been going frantic with worry, not having heard from Gary since he headed off wanting to put some space between them after a series of arguments. The arguments were mainly about Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty). Maria was furious that Gary seemed to be spending so much time with the woman whose husband killed Craig Tinker (Colson Smith). She didn't trust Lou's motives and thought she was exploiting Gary's kindness. And the more Maria objected to Gary seeing Lou, the more he pushed back. Since he left Maria has hardly heard from him, and when he doesn't get in touch on Liam (Charlie Wrenshall)'s birthday she's convinced something bad has happened to him. She reports him as a missing person. Nina overhears Maria saying that there haven't been any transactions on Gary's bank account since June 23 – which was the night of the party. She tells Summer what she's learned and worries that it was Gary they saw that night when they were high on drugs. Summer reminds her that there were no reports of an assault and when they went back to look there was no trace of Gary or anyone else. Then we see Gary, unconscious in hospital. A nurse assures his visitor that 'Chesney' is making progress. More Trending And when DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) contacts the hospital about the unidentified coma patient who's been admitted, a staff member says that the person on their ward is called Chesney.
