Sentencing submissions expected Wednesday for teen found guilty in fatal swarming attack
The teen was one of eight girls between the ages of 13 and 16 who were arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kenneth Lee.
The other seven girls pleaded guilty to lesser charges — five to manslaughter, one to assault and one to assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
This girl, who was 14 at the time of the attack, also tried to plead guilty to manslaughter at the start of her trial, but her plea was rejected by the Crown.
In May, Ontario Justice Philip Campbell found her not guilty of second-degree murder but guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
The judge said the Crown had not proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the girl dealt the fatal blow to Kenneth Lee, or had the state of mind required for murder during the December 2022 swarming.

A man has died in hospital days after a motorcycle crash in the city's east end, Ottawa police say. Emergency services responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 174 westbound near Blair Road at around 2:30 p.m. on July 29, police said in a press release on Wednesday. Investigation underway into fatal collision involving pedestrian
An investigation is underway into a fatal collision involving a pedestrian in Edmonton Friday afternoon. At around 3:30 p.m., a 60-year-old man was walking north on the curb parallel to the southbound lanes on 50 Street near 40 Avenue. A Toyota Tundra driven by a 39-year-old man driving south in the curb lane along 50 Street hit the pedestrian when, police were told, the man stepped into the southbound lane. EMS and EPS personnel tried lifesaving measures on scene and the injured man was transported to hospital where he died. The driver of the Tundra wasn't injured and remained on scene. Police believe neither excessive speed or alcohol are factors in the collision.

Man arrested after vehicle crashes through front door of RCMP office in Montreal
MONTREAL — A man is under arrest after a vehicle went through the front door of the RCMP headquarters Saturday morning in the Montreal suburb of Westmount, just west of downtown.
