Sharlene Mawdsley sprints through Tipp's celebrations

Sharlene Mawdsley was the embodiment of 'no days off' during Tipperary's All-Ireland celebrations on Monday, as she raced a local barefoot and in a dress. The Olympic sprinter was in the stands to cheer on her boyfriend and Tipp hurler Michael Breen as the Premier County overturned a six-point deficit to hammer Cork and bring Liam McCarthy back to Tipperary for the first time since 2019. With Michael and the rest of the lads returning to Tipp to celebrate in front of 45,000 people in Semple Stadium, Sharlene joined in on the celebrations, and there clearly wasn't a loss on her this morning; as she raced a fella at 6.45am. Sharlene Mawdsley at quarter to seven this morning 🤣🤣🤣 #tipp #gaa — Ewan MacKenna (@EwanMacKenna) July 22, 2025 A far cry from her racing uniform and runners, Sharlene raced the fan while wearing a dress and flats, and to sweeten the deal, she gave the guy — who's since been identified as former hurler Brian 'Buggy' O'Meara — a head start. The head start was nothing for her, however, as she breezed past him in a 10 second clip that has done the rounds on Twitter (X). 'Imagine walking to work turning the corner and seeing Sharlene Mawdsley racing some lad called Buggy O'Meara!' one person wrote, while another wrote 'Good bit of craic in Sharlene obviously.' Hup Tipp,' another added, while another added that Buggy 'might have taken it on a photo finish.' Sharlene confirmed that she and Michael were an item back in June, following the future All-Ireland champions' win over Waterford in the championship. Outside of the GAA, Michael is a business studies and geography teacher at CBS secondary school in Clonmel, receiving a diploma in education from DCU. The Olympic sprinter proved that she didn't need any runners or uniform to have the race, handily beating the former Tipp hurler in her dress from the night before and without any shoes on. Qatar in 'ongoing discussions' with IOC on bid for 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Qatar has confirmed its interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The country's Olympic committee confirmed on Tuesday it was in "ongoing discussions" with the International Olympic Committee over staging the Games. The Middle East nation hosted the men's football World Cup in 2022. "This move underscores the State of Qatar's unwavering commitment to supporting the Olympic and Paralympic movements and its keen interest in playing an active role in the advancement of global sport," a QOC statement said. Staging a Summer Games in the searing heat of the Middle East may require a move out of the event's traditional slot. The 2022 World Cup was played in November and December instead of June and July. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, president of the QOC and chair of the bid committee, said: "We currently have 95% of the required sports infrastructure in place to host the Games, and we have a comprehensive national plan to ensure 100% readiness of all facilities. "This plan is rooted in a long-term vision aimed at building a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable legacy. "Our objective goes beyond simply organising a successful event, we aim to deliver a global experience that reinforces the values of inclusivity, sustainability, and international collaboration." New IOC president Kirsty Coventry said last month her organisation would be reviewing the process for determining Games hosts.
