Moments after Virat Kohli officially announced his retirement from Test cricket, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar took to Instagram with a heartfelt tribute that left fans emotional. Sharing a picture of Kohli from behind in his iconic No. 18 jersey, Tendulkar recounted a deeply personal memory from his farewell Test in 2013.
In the moving note, Tendulkar wrote that Kohli had once offered him a sacred thread from his late father during his final Test match—an emotional gesture that left a lasting impression. 'It was something too personal for me to accept, but the gesture was heartwarming and has stayed with me ever since,' the Master Blaster said. 'While I may not have a thread to offer in return, please know that you carry my deepest admiration and very best wishes.'
Tendulkar hailed Kohli's true legacy as one of inspiration, having sparked a generation of passionate young cricketers across the country. 'You have given Indian cricket so much more than just runs – you have given it a new generation of passionate fans and players.'
Earlier today, Kohli shared his official retirement note on Instagram, calling it a difficult yet timely decision. 'I've given everything I had,' he wrote, as tributes from players, fans, and celebrities poured in.
Kohli retires as India's most successful Test captain, with 40 wins from 68 matches and over 9,200 runs in red-ball cricket. His departure marks the end of an era in Indian cricket.

England's Jess Carter reveals racial abuse at Euro 2025, FA has contacted police

ZURICH (AP) — England defender Jess Carter says she has been subject to racial abuse online at the Women's European Championship. Carter came in for a lot of criticism for her performance during England's opening loss to France. And some of that has crossed the line even as the 27-year-old and the Lionesses have reached the semifinals at Euro 2025. 'From the start of the tournament I have experienced a lot of racial abuse,' Carter wrote in an emotional post on Instagram on Sunday. 'Whilst I feel every fan is entitled to their opinion on performance and result I don't agree or think it's ok to target someone's appearance or race.' Carter, who has made 49 appearances for England and plays for Gotham FC, says she will be taking a step back from social media. 'As ever I am grateful for all of the support from the genuine fans but I am taking this measure to protect myself in a bid to keep my focus on helping the team anyway I can,' she added. The Football Association has contacted police back in the United Kingdom. 'Our priority is Jess and giving her all the support she needs,' FA CEO Mark Bullingham said. 'We strongly condemn those responsible for this disgusting racism. 'As soon as we were made aware of the racist abuse Jess received, we immediately contacted UK police. They are in touch with the relevant social media platform, and we are working with police to ensure those responsible for this hate crime are brought to justice.' England plays Italy in the semifinals on Tuesday in Geneva, after a dramatic comeback against Sweden last week saw the Lionesses win a chaotic penalty shootout. ___

Charli XCX and The 1975's George Daniel are married

From brat to bride summer: Charli XCX and George Daniel have tied the knot! The "360" hitmaker and The 1975 drummer have married after three years of dating. She confirmed the news in a TikTok clip posted Saturday, July 19, in which she is seen walking into a room wearing a white, off-the-shoulder gown with a high-low hem, a veil, sunglasses and white sling-back pumps. "When George isn't crying when he sees me walking down the aisle," the text over the screen read. The Grammy winner added in the caption, "luckily he did xx." Another TikTok clip showed the singer and her loved ones celebrating, with a caption that read, "bridal party energy!" USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Charli XCX for comment. 'For life': Charli XCX, The 1975 drummer George Daniel announce engagement In November 2023, the now 32-year-old "Boom Clap" singer revealed that Daniel proposed in now-deleted photos on her public Instagram. At the time, Daniel's representative confirmed the engagement to USA TODAY. Charli XCX (real name: Charlotte Emma Aitchison) shared a photo of her now-fiancé dipping her while kissing, an engagement ring between two cups of coffee and another of herself seated on Daniel's lap. "charli xcx and george daniel for life!!!" she captioned the post. The engagement news came a day after the singer shared a picture of her flashing a ring on her private Instagram. The couple − who went Instagram official in May 2022 − have since made numerous red-carpet appearances together. The wedding comes after a breakout 2024 for the pop superstar, who toiled in the music industry since her teens before she broke through with her album "Brat," released last June. She received seven Grammy nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards in February, including major nods for album of the year and record of the year and three wins. Who is Matt Fitzpatrick's wife? Meet Katherine Fitzpatrick

British golf star Matt Fitzpatrick has had a pretty good career so far that's included a major (the 2022 U.S. Open) and wins on the European Tour. And recently -- as of publishing this in the summer of 2025 -- he's had a big accomplishment in his personal life. Back in 2024, he got married to girlfriend Katherine Gaal. They had revealed they were dating in 2023 by going Instagram official. She was a Miss New Jersey runner-up back in 2013 and graduated from Penn State. She's been rooting him on at golf tournaments all over the world. Hopefully for them, we'll see the couple celebrate more wins in the future. Here's a look at some photos of them over the years via his Instagram page: Adorable!
