Real estate talent honoured at Success Realty, Bayleys Awards
Commercial honours went to Brendon Bradley (Tauranga Commercial), who won both Commercial Salesperson of the Year and Greatest Number of Deals Settled, with Willem Brown (Hamilton Commercial) named Individual Commercial Salesperson of the Year.
Top Office of the Year was awarded to Bayleys Mount, a reflection of their market leadership and strong results.
Rookie of the Year was Arun Mehan (Tauranga Residential), Greatest Year-on-Year Growth went to Mark Frost (Hamilton Residential), Individual Auction Growth was won by Sarah Adams (Hamilton Residential) and Office Growth of the Year went to Bayleys Mount.
The Marketing Campaign of the Year was awarded to Sarah Campbell for her standout campaign on 323 Plummers Point Rd in Tauranga Residential, a powerful example of strategic property storytelling.
The Bayleys Way Staff Recognition Award was presented to Stephen Shale, while the Altogether Better Award was went to Peter Kelly (Hamilton Country), recognising both for their unwavering commitment and embodiment of the Bayleys philosophy.
Bayleys said it also acknowledged those who upheld the company's values and made an impact – whether with clients, in the community or behind the scenes.
Winner of the Big on Community Award were Nicki & Wayne Robb (Hamilton Residential), Property Management Excellence went to Brodie Thomas (Tauranga Commercial), Administrator of the Year was Jess Cleaver (Tauranga Country), PA of the Year was Grace Reid (Hamilton Country), and Realty Services Excellence went to Mary Derksen (Finance).
Bayleys chief executive Heath Young said: 'The night was a testament to the calibre of people we have across our group. It was about celebrating not just numbers, but the attitude, care, and collaboration that drive our success.'

Released sections sell straight away

KVL senior development manager Nicola Tristram said yesterday's 23 sections took the total sold since March to 110. All three releases had sold out immediately, Ms Tristram said. "We think it's the affordability that's driving it, with sections from $299,000 and very local buyers. "First-home buyers and families are what we're seeing at this stage." With registrations of interest on the company's database steadily increasing, that demand was expected to continue. Titles for the first 87 sections were expected by winter next year. Titles for yesterday's 23 sections, which ranged in size from 350sq m to 600sq m, were expected by the winter of 2027. A decision on the timing of the next release, to be marketed by real estate agents Bayleys, had yet to be made, she said. Civil works for the 88ha development, which is south of the existing township, began last month. Zoned for 750 sections, it is set to triple Kingston's population once fully built and occupied.

New World Pt Chevalier to open next to derelict building and abandoned tyre site
Next door is a third of a hectare ex-Magnum Motors corner site, also fronting 8 Parr Rd North but looking in very poor shape. How did such a situation arise and what do council and local board people say about it? The state-of-the-art supermarket is aiming to draw tens of thousands of shoppers weekly in the suburb, which currently only has a small Woolworths. The unsightly empty site next door is owned by New Zealand-registered company Hobson One. Its director is Zhengzheng Guo of Remuera. 'An application was lodged in December 2024 for a three-storey mixed-use building - retail and residential,' a council spokesman said. The application was now on hold, awaiting further information, the spokesman said. Advertising showed he did try to sell the site two years ago, before downscaling plans. A larger scheme was once planned. Consent was granted non-notified on February 20, 2023, for an eight-storey apartment block, with basement parking, three commercial units and 177 dwellings, the council noted. 'Given the changing demands of the market, the applicant wishes to achieve a similar development in terms of land use, albeit on a much smaller scale in terms of the height of the built form, but also notably the depth and volume of earthworks required will be significantly less,' the council document said. Kendyl Smith, chair of the Albert-Eden Local Board, said the site was private property which the council had boarded off. Smith was aware of safety and crime concerns. The board had completed a review of crime prevention through environmental design in the wider area, Smith said. That identified safety-related improvements for Pt Chevalier. 'We're also looking forward to the new modular library, with full library services, joining the town square this October.' That is for people aged 55-plus moving into or from existing state housing. Kāinga Ora contracted Tawera Group and Teak Construction on this job. They assembled the 61-unit block of single-bedroom new units. Kāinga Ora said the modular homes were all one-bedroom apartments to cater for high demand for those types of places. Formidable duo's awards confirm worth

Arun Mehan didn't expect to win Bayleys' Bay of Plenty Rookie of the Year award recently – but it didn't surprise his father-in-law. A stalwart of the region's horticultural landscape for 32 years, Snow Williams also claimed a well-deserved award as Individual Country Salesperson of the Year. Together they are formidable – both in work and in home life. Married to Snow's daughter, conversations about real estate were bound to crop up. With a managerial background in retail and horticulture, sales wasn't in Arun's mind. However, after taking the plunge, he grabbed attention straight away. Selling four properties in a week early on, Arun's personal number of residential sales for 2024/25 is 46. Alongside Snow, lifestyle sales climb higher again. Mentored by Snow from the outset, Arun sums it up nicely. 'Everything I know, I know from Snow.' Don't for a minute think he rides on Snow's coat-tails – though they are worth hanging on to. Snow saw something in Arun from the outset – and couldn't be happier to have him as a son-in-law. Sit down with this pair for a while – and their bond is obvious. After almost a year in real estate, Arun is as familiar around the traps as Snow – heavily involved in the community in and around Bay of Plenty – sponsoring schools in Pongakawa, Paengaroa and Te Puke and helping to raise money whenever he can. Doing up to seven appraisals a week, with a person-to-person approach and door knocking, Arun believes in being totally hands on. Also wanting to give back; Arun donates money to Te Puke Fire Brigade from every sale. Sales come quickly, thanks to his personal approach and forthright honesty – appraising a property, placing it correctly and being upfront when it comes to presentation, marketing and the best sales process to run with. Thanks to a significant database that Snow has built up over the years, and Arun's own system – connecting people with property underpins what both men achieve. Arun says money doesn't drive him. It's people. People first, property second. That might sound trite – but Arun's personality and authenticity can't be taken lightly. Snow's the same – which explains his success and place in the community. With a larger-than-life character; his originality and straight talking doesn't go down well with some vendors at times. Within the horticultural sector, his sole focus is to match people with the right orchard, and what will work for them. He knows this region inside out. Arun thinks the same – willing to walk away from a sale if he knows he won't be able to attain a vendor's expectation. Yet, often he gets more. Both men have irresistible self-belief – refreshingly unpretentious. The market has changed since post Covid days, when prices were obscene at times. Reality revolves around current statistics, however – and being truthful. Sold signs don't lie. Arun's residential sales are impressive – Te Puke, Pāpāmoa, Pongakawa, Pukehina – even Ōmokoroa; with a property that had no prior success on the market. Snow's record speaks for itself – top country salesman. Together they run their own show – Arun's PA, Danielle Perry, is also integral to the team – mindful of Bayleys' brand, yet with a spark that sets them apart. Look out for the billboards and back-of-the-bus images soon. The twinkle in their eyes is hard to ignore.
