JuJu Watkins suffers season-ending injury in NCAA Women's Basketball 2nd Round game

USC sophomore guard JuJu Watkins suffered a season-ending injury as the Trojans beat Mississippi State in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
The women's basketball team said on social media that Watkins 'will undergo surgery and then begin rehabilitation shortly thereafter.'

The injury occurred with 4:43 left in the first quarter in USC's Second Round NCAA Tournament game against Mississippi State.
Watkins was going to the basket when her knee bent awkwardly as she planted her right leg. The non-contact injury caused her to fall to the floor, the Associated Press reported.
She grabbed her knee and was eventually carried off the floor.
The Trojans beat the Bulldogs, 96-59, to reach the Sweet 16.

USC continues to grow 2026 recruiting class, lands four-star OL Breck Kolojay
USC football already has a loaded recruiting class in place for the 2026 cycle. By no means does that suggest the Trojans are done adding to it. On Friday, USC picked up another big-time commitment, landing four-star offensive lineman Breck Kolojay. Kolojay is originally from Littleton, Colorado but attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 325 overall player and the No. 21 interior offensive lineman in the class of 2026. 'Just the trust I have in the staff and what they are building, and the people they are bringing in, it's all really special,' Kolojay told 247Sports. 'I think all of the people in the building will play a huge part in my success and development. The opportunity to play in Los Angeles, and in the Big Ten, alongside players I haven't played with in a while and guys I'm playing with now, it's an opportunity. I couldn't say no to.' Kolojay is a big get for new USC offensive lineman coach Zach Hanson. The Trojans have struggled with o-line recruiting in particular for the better part of a decade now, but are doing much better at the position with the 2026 class. USC has built up a ton of momentum on the recruiting trail during the offseason. Now it is up to Lincoln Riley and the coaching staff to carry that momentum with them into the field this fall.

Former USC offensive lineman Jalen McKenzie signs with Miami Dolphins
While the 2025 college football season is just around the corner, the NFL season is not far off either. Numerous Trojans across the league are preparing, hoping to have big seasons with their respective teams. One of those players is offensive lineman Jalen McKenzie. This past week, McKenzie agreed to a contract with the Miami Dolphins. Miami will mark McKenzie's sixth different NFL team since entering the league in 2022. He has previously spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers. McKenzie played at USC from 2017-2021. After redshirting his first year on campus, he appeared in every game for the Trojans over the next four years, playing both offensive guard and offensive tackle. In 2020, he was named All-Pac-12 honorable mention. Following his college football career, McKenzie played in the 2022 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. However, he was not selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, instead signing with Seattle as an undrafted free agent. This is a chance to jump-start his career. Let's see what happens in the NFL preseason.

Oregon and Notre Dame will be USC's most important games
The 2025 college football season is more about facing pressure than meeting high expectations for the USC Trojans and Lincoln Riley. Not too many experts are predicting the USC Trojans to be a playoff team. ESPN just released an article featuring 32 teams that have a shot to make the College Football Playoff. The Trojans were slotted as the 21st team. ESPN analytics are predicting the Trojans to have a 21% chance to make the playoff and a 4% chance to win it all. These are fair projections placed on the Trojans after last season's disappointing finish. Even with an improved roster, the Trojans will still have to prove this year's team is different. Here are ESPN writer Heather Dinich's thoughts on what matchups will be the most important games for the Trojans this season: "USC is a borderline at-large CFP team that's going to have two tough road trips to rival Notre Dame and Oregon. If those are the Ducks' only two losses, it's hard to imagine the committee excluding the Trojans, but right now USC has much to prove after last year's 7-6 finish." Dinich believes that Oregon will be USC's toughest matchup this season, a game that will greatly affect the Trojans' level of success this year. "Nov. 22 at Oregon," Dinich wrote. "This earned a small edge over the game in South Bend simply because of the Big Ten implications. Both Oregon and USC should be looking up at Ohio State and Penn State in the league standings, but the Ducks will be looking to protect their shot at returning to the Big Ten title game, and Autzen Stadium will be unforgiving." The Trojans have a better shot at making the College Football Playoff if they can take out the Oregon Ducks, because at the end of the season it could come down to them or the Ducks for the last playoff spot. The Big Ten is a loaded conference, so the Trojans have to make their case in the games versus Oregon and Notre Dame.
