Miss SA exits Miss Supranational as Bokang Montjane steps into local leadership

News2408-05-2025
The Miss South Africa organisation has bowed out of Miss Supranational, with no plans to renew its licence.
This marks the second pageant licence the organisation has chosen not to renew, following Carol Bouwer's acquisition of the Miss World South Africa licence.
Miss South Africa 2010, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala, has since taken the helm as the national director of Miss Supranational South Africa.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Miss South Africa organisation unexpectedly announced that its 2024 titleholder, Mia le Roux, would not represent the country at the upcoming Miss Supranational without explanation. However, as backlash and questions mounted in the comment section of their Instagram post, the organisation updated its post, saying it would also not renew its licence for the pageant.
Since then, Bokang Montjane, a former Miss South Africa titleholder, has announced her appointment as the new national director of Miss Supranational South Africa.
A closer look into the latest developments in the South African world of pageantry:
Miss South Africa pulls out of Miss Supranational:
On Wednesday, the Miss South Africa organisation expressed its 'heartfelt gratitude' to its supporters as it announced that le Roux would not participate in the 2025 iteration of the Miss Supranational pageant, which will take place in Poland next month.
'We deeply value the memories and connections of this event,' the organisation said. 'We wish the Miss Supranational organisation a spectacular event.'

After initially only sharing the statement with the caption 'official statement,' the Miss South Africa organisation updated the caption with an explanation of its withdrawal from the pageant. The organisation said the decision to withdraw from Miss Supranational 2025 was made solely by the organisation, adding it was not attributed to Le Roux or the first runner-up, Nompumelelo Maduna.
Miss Supranational South Africa gets a new director:
Hot on the heels of Miss South Africa's announcement, Montjane-Tshabalala revealed she was appointed as the all-new national director of Miss Supranational South Africa.
In a lengthy statement on her social media, the Miss South Africa 2010 titleholder described joining the Miss Supranational family as a 'full circle' moment for her.
'The Miss Supranational organisation has built a strong and inspiring track record in South Africa, producing women who represent not just beauty and grace, but purpose, strength and vision,' she said. 'I am thrilled to be part of a global brand that celebrates these values and to have the opportunity to continue building a legacy in our country.'

'My vision as the national director is to grow the Miss Supranational South Africa platform into one that not only shines on the international stage but also makes a tangible difference here at home. Together with our team, I aim to identify and support women who are passionate about making a difference – women who are ready to lead, uplift others, and proudly represent the rich diversity of our nation.'
Welcoming Montjane-Tshabalala to the Miss Supranational family, founder and president Gerhard Parzutka von Lipinski said he knew the South African franchise was in safe hands, given the beauty queen and businesswoman's understanding of international pageantry and love for the industry.
'My team and I will be supporting Bokang every step of the way, like we do with all our licence holders, as we embark on this brand-new start in South Africa together,' he said.
Not the first Miss South Africa to Miss Supranational transition:
At the beginning of the year, long-time Miss South Africa creative director Werner Wessels announced his resignation from the role and organisation. At the time, he kept mum on where he was headed but said:
'While this marks the end of one chapter, it's also the beginning of a new and exciting one. The best is yet to come, and I can't wait to share what's next.'
See the full statement here.
News24's attempt to find out what was next for Wessels proved fruitless at the time, as messages went unanswered. However, weeks later, the Miss Supranational organisation announced Wessels had joined their family as their brand development consultant.
'I am so proud and deeply humbled to be joining the Miss Supranational family, embracing the incredible vision set out by this organisation to inspire, unite and uplift,' Wessels said upon the announcement. 'I look forward to building on this vision along with the Miss Supranational organisation and continuing the legacy of aspirational and inspirational leaders across the globe.'

Founder and president Parzutka von Lipinski also expressed his excitement at Wessels' joining his organisation, saying he was a 'natural fit' to the Miss and Mister Supranational family. He added that he brought with him a wealth of experience and passion for the industry, which was similar to theirs.
Carol Bouwer Productions acquired the Miss World South Africa licence after decades of the Miss South Africa organisation holding it since the 1950s.

Cyberpunk 2 associate game director admits CD Projekt Red "are sometimes slower" than players would like, and yeah, I'd already made peace with the fact we'll be waiting on this sequel for years

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Cyberpunk 2077 quest design director Paweł Sasko admits that "we are sometimes slower [than] you would like" as the delayed Patch 2.3 finally goes live. The new update for Cyberpunk, which adds new vehicles, gameplay options, bug fixes and quality of life improvements, was originally planned for release on June 26, 2025, but wound up being pushed back to July 17 when developer CD Projekt Red announced on social media that "we'll need some more time to make sure we're happy with it". With Patch 2.3 now finally going live, Sasko, who's also associate game director on the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, tells fans to "enjoy" the update as he says: "Everything we do, is for you. We are sometimes slower [than] you would like to [sic], but we always have the best of our community and our game in heart." Despite the apologetic tone, it seems as though the community has been perfectly happy to wait for the end result. Early initial reactions to Patch 2.3 seem positive, and even the original announcement that it was being rescheduled back in June was largely met with understanding and patience by the fanbase. That might be due to the fact that it's generally understood that game development is taking longer and longer with every passing year, an issue that's by no means exclusive to CDPR. As graphics and technology get more complicated and the scale of many projects increases, the time and resources needed to create these games is only getting greater, not helped by some studios jumping the gun and announcing projects way in advance of their actual release. To hammer that point home, The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced back in 2018, and there's no reason to think it'll be out any time soon. But of course, that community patience could always be because CDPR specifically has learned its lesson about rushed development. Cyberpunk's launch in 2020 was notorious for its poor performance and missing features, particularly on consoles, as well as brutal levels of crunch being reported in the months leading up to the game's release date. Consequently, the fanbase seems happy for the company to pace itself and its workload, considering the ugly consequences of what happened when it didn't. I fully agree with them on that score. Still, Sasko's comment is a reminder that good things come to those who wait, and a momentary glimpse into the priorities of a CD Projekt Red that appears to have learned its lesson. I guess with current industry trends and timescales in mind, I look forward to playing the Cyberpunk sequel sometime around the actual year 2077. Despite a rough start, Cyberpunk 2077 would eventually make it up to our list of the best RPGs! Check out what else made the list – and what took the first place spot.

Jennifer Lopez's Wardrobe Malfunction Left Her Standing In Her Underwear, And It's Awkward

On Friday, Jennifer Lopez's Up All Night Tour stopped in Warsaw, Poland, where she performed in front of a reported crowd of over 70,000 people. Related: If you haven't seen the footage, it looked like a great night — except for one unfortunate moment when part of the outfit she was wearing became undone. Jennifer — who happened to be celebrating her 56th birthday that night — wore a sparkly gold bralette and a fringed miniskirt, accessorizing with matching full-sleeve gloves and sparkly gold heels. She was backstage, changing into the outfit, when a member of her team invited the band and the audience to join them in singing "Happy Birthday" to her. Related: Seemingly unprepared, but not wanting to miss the song, Jennifer rushed back onstage as a team member followed close behind, seemingly trying to fasten her skirt. "Thank you!" Jennifer told the crowd. "Thank you, Warsaw!" But as she stepped forward, the skirt slipped down, exposing her gold undergarments. Related: At first, she screamed, but then she decided to embrace it. "I'm out here in my underwear," Jennifer said, raising her hands and twirling for the crowd. Laughing, she added, "That's gonna be everywhere!" Jennifer Lopez / Via A team member attempted to help her fix the skirt, but at that point, there was no point, and Jennifer threw it into the audience. "I'm glad they reinforced that costume," she joked, "and I'm glad I had underwear on!" Watch the moment here: Viewers thought it was hilarious — and they also appreciated Jennifer's sense of humor about the situation. Taking to Reddit, one person wrote, "Now that's how a professional recovers 😂." Another said, "Lmao she knows she looks good either way. Thats power." Related: "Well that was smooth lol," commented another. "She looks great!" While someone else said, "I love that recovery lmao" In response to some speculation that it was "staged," one viewer suggested, "It was obviously two outfits in one, it just detached too early than expected. But she was also meant to be in the 'after' one at some point." "Yea, was gonna say it might've been intentional but then saw the giant mic pack behind her; ain't no way wardrobe would want that showing on stage. Good on them for handling it so smoothly," one more added. Either way, as Reddit user Character_Seaweed_99 said, "this is why you should always wear nice underwear." Jennifer Lopez praised for laughing off epic wardrobe malfunction during concert

Jennifer Lopez has been praised for sensationally styling out a wardrobe malfunction on the Polish leg of her world tour. The singer and actor was performing in Warsaw on Friday (25 July) when her skirt slipped off her body mid-show, leaving her standing in her underwear. But despite initially gasping at the malfunction, Lopez quickly took it in her stride, laughing and joking with her dancers and saying to the crowd, 'I'm here in my underwear!' Lopez then waited as one of her dancers re-affixed the tear-off skirt to her body, while her back-up band continued to sing 'Happy Birthday' to the star – Lopez turned 56 a day earlier. Reports from the show suggest that the dancer failed to re-affix the skirt, leading Lopez to throw the garment into the audience. The incident sparked a wave of support from fans online. 'She's adorable and handled it like [the] pro that she is,' wrote a Lopez fanpage on Instagram. Another person wrote: 'life is too short, love how she and her staff [and] the crowd handled it.' Lopez is currently in the midst of her Up All Night tour, which is playing across Asia and Europe. Included in the show's setlist are many of her biggest hits, including 'On the Floor', 'Love Don't Cost a Thing', 'Waiting for Tonight' and 'Let's Get Loud'. The tour will conclude in Sardinia, Italy, on 12 August. During a stop in Barcelona earlier this month, Lopez joked about her rocky relationship history after spotting a fan carrying a sign that read 'J Lo, Marry Me?' 'I think I'm done with that,' Lopez joked in response. 'I've tried that a few times.' Lopez was married to the waiter Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, the dancer Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003, the singer Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014, and actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck from 2022 to 2025. Lopez and Affleck were engaged in 2002, but called off their wedding in early 2004. In 2021 they announced that they had reunited, before marrying a year later. In 2024, the pair announced that they had separated once again.
